OpenAI has Launched Prism: An AI-Powered Companion for Scientific Research

In a bid to revolutionize scientific research, OpenAI has unveiled a new app called Prism. This innovative tool leverages the capabilities of GPT-5.2 Thinking, an advanced artificial intelligence model developed by the company, to assist researchers in various tasks associated with publishing their work.

The brainchild of OpenAI's acquisition of Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform, Prism aims to streamline the tedious aspects of scientific research, such as formatting journals and bibliographies. This AI-powered app not only offers robust LaTeX editing capabilities but also features an integrated AI assistant that can help researchers find relevant scientific literature, automate the process of writing bibliographies, and even generate lesson plans.

During a press demo, OpenAI's employees showcased Prism's capabilities, using it to find and incorporate pertinent research papers, as well as generating a set of problems for students to solve. The company acknowledges that AI-generated references can be a concern in the scientific community but believes that integrating these tools into workflows will not only speed up processes but also preserve accountability.

Prism is now available to users with personal ChatGPT accounts and offers support for unlimited projects and collaborators. OpenAI plans to expand its reach by bringing Prism to organizations on different ChatGPT plans, although Crixet's standalone version will not be made available separately.
