OpenAI releases Prism, a Claude Code-like app for scientific research

OpenAI has Launched Prism: An AI-Powered Companion for Scientific Research

In a bid to revolutionize scientific research, OpenAI has unveiled a new app called Prism. This innovative tool leverages the capabilities of GPT-5.2 Thinking, an advanced artificial intelligence model developed by the company, to assist researchers in various tasks associated with publishing their work.

The brainchild of OpenAI's acquisition of Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform, Prism aims to streamline the tedious aspects of scientific research, such as formatting journals and bibliographies. This AI-powered app not only offers robust LaTeX editing capabilities but also features an integrated AI assistant that can help researchers find relevant scientific literature, automate the process of writing bibliographies, and even generate lesson plans.

During a press demo, OpenAI's employees showcased Prism's capabilities, using it to find and incorporate pertinent research papers, as well as generating a set of problems for students to solve. The company acknowledges that AI-generated references can be a concern in the scientific community but believes that integrating these tools into workflows will not only speed up processes but also preserve accountability.

Prism is now available to users with personal ChatGPT accounts and offers support for unlimited projects and collaborators. OpenAI plans to expand its reach by bringing Prism to organizations on different ChatGPT plans, although Crixet's standalone version will not be made available separately.

I'm so glad I caught this thread after it died ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ’ก. So, OpenAI is trying to make scientific research less of a chore with their new app Prism. It's actually kinda cool that they're integrating LaTeX editing and bibliography management into one tool - that stuff can be super tedious! ๐Ÿ’ป

The part about AI-generated references being a concern in the science community makes sense, but I'm curious to see how OpenAI plans to address that. Are they gonna have some kind of quality control check to ensure accuracy? ๐Ÿค” Also, I wonder if Prism will work well with existing citation styles... my academic paper is still in LaTeX format from back when I was in grad school ๐Ÿ˜‚

Overall, I think it's a great move by OpenAI to make scientific research more accessible and efficient. Can't wait to give it a try and see how it compares to other tools out there ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ป

I gotta wonder what's really going on here... I mean, think about it - they just launch this thing, Prism, and suddenly we've got AI-powered assistants generating references and bibliographies like it's nobody's business? And OpenAI is all like "it's gonna speed up research" but what about the "accountability" part? That sounds like a pretty thin veil to me... I mean, who's really in control here? Are these AIs just being used to make scientists do their bidding or something? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญ

๐Ÿค” I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing... but what if we're relying too much on AI-powered tools like Prism? Like, have we become so lazy that we need an app to help us format our papers and find relevant research? ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ป Don't get me wrong, it's cool that OpenAI is trying to make scientific research more efficient, but shouldn't we be pushing the boundaries of human knowledge instead of just relying on tech to do it for us? ๐Ÿค– Moreover, what about those researchers who don't have access to this fancy tool? Are they going to get left behind in the scientific revolution? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh, this just goes to show how much AI is gonna disrupt the whole research world... what about all those researchers who can't even afford a personal ChatGPT account? Now they're stuck in the slow lane while their colleagues are using Prism to churn out papers like it's going out of style ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ˜’. And don't even get me started on how this is just gonna lead to more AI-generated "research" that's been cobbled together from who-knows-where... I mean, I know OpenAI says they're trying to preserve accountability, but let's be real, it's all about speed and efficiency now ๐Ÿ•’๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ. Mark my words, this is just the beginning of a whole new era of AI-driven research, and I'm not sure how good that is for humanity ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ“š.

I'm loving this new AI-powered tool ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ“š from OpenAI! Think about it - researchers can just chill and focus on their work, while the app takes care of formatting and bibliographies for them ๐Ÿ’ป. It's like having a super smart study buddy ๐Ÿ˜Š that can help you find relevant papers and even generate lesson plans for your students ๐Ÿ“. I'm curious to see how this is gonna change the game for scientists and researchers out there...and what about those concerns about AI-generated references? Hopefully, they're just talk ๐Ÿคž

just heard about this new app from openai ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ’ก i think it's amazing that they're working to make scientific research more efficient! like, who doesn't hate formatting papers and stuff? ๐Ÿ™„ prism seems like a game changer - having an AI assistant that can help with research and writing is literally a dream come true for many researchers. of course, there are some concerns about accountability and whatnot, but i think openai's approach is a good one: using these tools to augment human capabilities rather than replace them ๐Ÿค
