Pierre Robert, Philadelphia's Voice of Rock Radio, Dead at 70

Philadelphia's radio landscape has lost its beloved voice in rock, Pierre Robert, a stalwart figure who breathed life into 93.3 WMMR for an impressive 44 years as a DJ. Born William Pierre Robert in California in 1955, he began his broadcasting career on a San Francisco progressive rock station before finding his true home with WMMR.

Robert's daily show was a staple of the city's airwaves, from 11 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday. He brought laughter and camaraderie to listeners as they tuned in each morning. With his signature "Great day in the morning!" greeting, Robert set the tone for an entertaining ride, often punctuated by self-deprecating jokes about his tardiness and sports ignorance ("the boys in blue"). A playlist that dared to take risks was a hallmark of his style.

But beyond the humor, Robert's passion shone through as he championed local artists. Fans of Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Hall & Oates, the Hooters, and Beru Revue knew they had found an ally in Pierre. His dedication to supporting hometown bands was unwavering, regardless of their level of fame.

In a heartfelt tribute, Jon Bon Jovi described Robert's spirit: "He didn’t care if you were the fad or the fashion of the moment. He just cared." The Offspring echoed this sentiment, stating that what made Robert great was his genuine love for music. As an on-air personality, he was first and foremost a music fan, and listeners felt it.

Beyond his playlists, Robert took listeners on a trip through rock & roll history in his "On This Day" segment. He'd delve into the concert calendar, listing off who played where in Philly on any given day – preserving the past while honoring those who came before.

The city honored its beloved DJ by projecting his image onto the Xfinity Mobile Arena sign ahead of a Bryan Adams concert, with "In Loving Memory" emblazoned above it.

For Philadelphians, Robert's voice was more than just a broadcast; it was home. And in writing tribute after tribute, we're reminded that his legacy will live on – a testament to the kind of kindness and generosity that Pierre Robert embodied every day as "the Voice of Rock Radio."

He passed away, 🤕 what's gonna happen now? Philly radio landscape is already so empty without him. 📻 I mean, WMMR was his jam, his baby... he brought the city together with his daily show. His playlists were fire, and the way he championed local artists was genuine. I loved how he'd poke fun at himself, it made you feel like you're hangin' out with an old buddy. The fact that Jon Bon Jovi and The Offspring spoke so highly of him just solidifies his legacy. He's not just a DJ, he's a part of Philly's history... 🎸

I'm sad to see Pierre Robert go 🙏. As much as I loved his rockin' personality, it's like he was a symbol of an era 📆. Think about it, the 80s and 90s were all about supporting local artists and keeping it real 🔥. It's like the government is slowly chipping away at that spirit with its increasing regulations and corporate influence 💼. We need more Pierre Roberts in our airwaves, folks! They're not making it easy for us to discover new music or find our own voice 📻. The city needs to step up and support local artists instead of just letting them fade away like Pierre's signal 🔇. It's a tough time to be a fan, but I'm holding out hope that the spirit of Pierre Robert will live on 💖.

ugh I'm so over all this nostalgia for an old guy 🙄... 44 years is a looong time, I get it. but honestly, Pierre Robert's style was getting super cringeworthy towards the end - those awful Bon Jovi jokes were becoming a bit too much 🤣 and his whole "great day in the morning" thing? please, sounds like something a try-hard DJ would do 😴

and don't even get me started on how mainstream he was... promoting local artists is cool I guess, but it's also super easy to do if you're already playing the same 5 bands over and over 🙄

the city's tribute to him was sweet, I'll give them that 🎉, but let's be real, we can all write a nice obituary for someone who wasn't exactly breaking new ground in their field 😊

I'm still getting used to the idea that our school's radio station won't have Pierre Robert's voice anymore 📻😢. I remember when he'd play Bon Jovi on his show, everyone would be like "oh no, not another time! 😂" but it was always in a good way. I wish our school could organize something similar to honor the memory of their favorite DJ. We should have a special playlist or even a mini tribute event 🎉👏. Anyway, his legacy is an inspiration to us all and I'm sure he'd want us to keep rocking on 🤘💕

😊 I'm really sad to hear about Pierre Robert leaving us. He had this way of making you feel like he was hanging out with you, even when it was just your morning commute 🚂. His passion for music and the community is what made his show so special - not just the jokes (although, oh man, I loved those!). But seriously, the fact that he took the time to support local artists and just genuinely loved music... that's something we can all learn from 💕. The way he brought people together with his "Great day in the morning!" greeting? Classic 🌞. It's no wonder Jon Bon Jovi said it was all about his love for music, because that's exactly what it was - a labor of love 💖.

omg can u belive its over for pierre robert? i mean i loved his style, always good for a laugh, but also some1 who really knew their rock & roll history. i'm still listenin to his playlists on spotify lol. jons bon jovi said it best, he just cared about the music, not the fame or whatever. btw, has anyone noticed how much wmmr is gonna miss him? its not the same without that daily dose of pierre's humor & expertise

I don’t usually comment but I feel so bad for WMMR and Philly losing their rock legend like this. I mean, 44 years is crazy! Pierre Robert's energy was infectious, you could just imagine him on air making everyone laugh and singing along to the best rock songs. His love for local artists was super inspiring, it's not often you meet someone who genuinely wants to see others succeed. The way he'd talk about Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Hall & Oates like they were his buddies... it felt so genuine 😊. I'm definitely gonna miss listening to his daily show and hearing that signature "Great day in the morning!" 🎵

Awwww 😊🎉 I'm beyond saddened to hear about Pierre's passing! He was literally the heartbeat of WMMR and Philly radio - his energy, humor, & love for music brought so much joy to our airwaves 🌟! 44 years is crazy impressive! What an amazing legacy he left behind 💖🔥 I'm gonna miss hearing his signature "Great day in the morning!" every Monday-Friday. Sending all my love & condolences to his family, friends, and fans everywhere 🤗💕

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this... 🤔 Like, what's going on here? They're saying goodbye to Pierre Robert, the OG DJ from Philly, but I think there's more to it than meets the eye. Think about it, his show was a staple for 44 years and now he's just "gone" like that? No explanation, no hint of what really happened? 🙅‍♂️ And they're talking about how much he loved local artists, but I wonder if there was more to it than that... Was he just covering up something? 🤫 Maybe his playlists were just a way to distract from the real story. And don't even get me started on Jon Bon Jovi's tribute - sounds like a PR stunt to me! 😒

awww man 😔 he was literally the best radio DJ ever... i used to love listening to him on 93.3 WMMR during lunch breaks in school 🍔📚 his passion for music was so infectious and made me wanna explore more rock bands 🤘 like the Hooters and Bon Jovi 🎸 anyway, it's crazy that he's gone but his legacy lives on and we can still vibe out to his playlists 🎵

aww man... this is crazy 😔. Losing someone who's been a part of our daily lives for so long can be tough, especially when it comes to music 🎵. Pierre Robert was more than just a DJ, he was like a friend to the city 🤗. His passion and love for local artists was infectious, and fans like me still feel that energy today 💖. The way he brought people together through his show is something we can all learn from 🌈. I'm gonna miss waking up to his "Great day in the morning!" 😊

I'm beyond sad to hear about Pierre Robert's passing 🤕😢. He was more than just a DJ, he was a true Philly icon 🏙️. His love for local artists and music fans was infectious, and his playlists were always on point 🎵. I mean, who else could make you laugh and feel like you're part of the crew with his "Great day in the morning!" 😂. He may have started on a San Francisco station, but Philly will always be his home ❤️. His dedication to supporting local bands was inspiring, and we'll miss him dearly 🎸. Let's take a moment to remember the good vibes he brought us every weekday morning 🙏 #PierreRobertForever #RockOn #PhillyIcon

🎸😢 I'm gonna miss him so much! Pierre's energy was infectious, he made us all feel like we were part of something special. His dedication to local artists is something to aspire to - he really cared about the music and the people who made it 🤩. And his sense of humor... oh man, he could roast himself just as good as anyone else! The "Great day in the morning!" still gives me a chuckle 😂. What I love most is that he wasn't afraid to be himself and share his passion with everyone who listened. He was more than just a DJ - he was a friend to so many people ❤️.

🤕 Pierre Robert was like part of our family 😔 - always making us laugh with those jokes about being late 😂, but at the same time, he had this super cool heart ❤️ when it came to supporting local artists. I mean, who else would play Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen nonstop? 🤟♂️ It's crazy how much we'll miss his daily show now that he's gone... 🎧 Those 'Great day in the morning!' vibes will never get old 💕

man 😊 he was defo the real deal! 44 years on wmmr is insane! 🤯 he had this way of makin' u feel like ur part of somethin special every time u tuned in. his playlist was always on point, but it wasnt just about playin music it was about sharin the love for local artists & keepin it real 💕. i mean jon bon jovi said it best "he didn’t care if you were the fad or the fashion of the moment". thats what made pierre so great, he was all about that music ❤️ #RIPpierreRobert #TheVoiceOfRockRadio #WMMR

🙏 He was literally the voice of Philly's rock scene, you know? 44 years is insane! He wasn't just a DJ, he had this special energy that made you feel like you were hanging out with an old buddy. I mean, who else could make "the boys in blue" a running joke and still get away with it? 🤣 And the way he championed local artists was so cool. It's not often you see someone genuinely supporting their community like that.

I'm getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about it... 😊 The tribute to him by Jon Bon Jovi and The Offspring is so beautiful, though. They got it right – it was all about the love for music. I wish we could've met him, but I feel like his spirit will still be alive in Philly's rock scene forever. 💖

I'm still reeling from the news of Pierre Robert's passing 🤕. As someone who grew up listening to WMMR, it's heartbreaking to think about the airwaves not being filled with his iconic voice and infectious enthusiasm anymore. His dedication to supporting local artists was truly admirable, and I loved how he didn't just focus on the big-name bands – he gave a platform to lesser-known talent as well.

I also appreciated how his shows were more than just playlists; they were an experience that transported listeners back in time through his "On This Day" segment. It's amazing how music has the power to bring people together and create a sense of community, and Pierre Robert was definitely at the heart of it all 🎵.

What really struck me is how he embodied kindness and generosity – it's clear that his legacy will live on through the countless fans he touched over the years. The fact that Jon Bon Jovi and The Offspring both spoke so fondly of him just reinforces what an incredible impact Pierre Robert had on the music world 🙏.

man I'm literally devastated to hear that Pierre Robert is gone 🤕 he was more than just a DJ to me, he felt like a part of my daily routine, knowing what music he'd play on his morning show and feeling the rush when some Philly band finally got played on air 😊 he had this way of making you feel included, you know? not just as a fan but as someone who's passionate about music too 🎸 anyway, it's crazy to think that someone who was so much a part of our daily lives can just... be gone 💔

😢 this is such a sad loss for Philly radio scene... i loved listening to Pierre's show it was like catching up with old friends every morning 😊 his energy was infectious & his love for local music was so genuine 🎸 always rooting for the underdogs & supporting our own hometown bands was what made his shows truly special 💖 what i remember most is how he'd share crazy stories about his (lack of) sports knowledge lol 😂 still, even with all the jokes, you could tell he genuinely cared about music & that's what made him a rockstar in my eyes 🤟
