Protesters interrupt Kristi Noem at House homeland hearing – video

South Dakota lawmakers were met with chaos yesterday during a heated hearing, as anti-transgender protesters disrupted the proceedings, targeting Governor Kristi Noem and her legislative colleagues.

The emotional outburst occurred during a House homeland security committee meeting, where Noem was testifying on a bill aimed at restricting transgender youth access to medical care. The protest, which involved several hundred demonstrators, spilled into the chamber as lawmakers attempted to continue their discussion.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as " intense" and " chaotic", with protesters chanting slogans and holding signs that read "Protect children from puberty-based treatments" and "Say No to Trans Agenda". Some protesters were seen attempting to block lawmakers' access to the podium, while others were arrested by Capitol Police for disorderly conduct.

Noem, who has been a vocal advocate against transgender rights, appeared visibly uncomfortable during the disruption. Her colleagues attempted to regain control of the hearing, but not before several lawmakers had already left the room in an effort to escape the chaos.

The protest highlights growing tensions between LGBTQ+ advocates and conservative lawmakers, with the debate over trans youth access to medical care becoming increasingly polarized. As one protester was seen shouting "You're killing our children!" during the disruption, it's clear that this issue has become a contentious battleground in the nation's capital.

🤔 This whole situation is just really scary 🙅‍♂️. I mean, lawmakers are supposed to be making decisions for the people, but when you have hundreds of protesters showing up and causing a scene like that, it's hard to focus on the issue at hand. And what's even more worrying is that this kind of thing can happen in public spaces where laws are being made 🤕. It feels like we're seeing a growing divide between people who support trans rights and those who don't, and it's getting pretty heated 🔥. As someone who thinks we should be able to respect each other's differences and opinions, it's disheartening to see things escalate like this 🚫. Can't we just have a calm conversation about our differences instead of resorting to chaos? 😩

🤕 I'm not surprised to see what happened at that hearing... people are getting more and more worked up about trans issues 🤯. It's like everyone's taking sides without even trying to understand the other side of the story 🤷‍♀️. Noem was just being honest about her concerns, but now it feels like she's being unfairly attacked for it 😒. I mean, can't we just have a respectful conversation about this stuff instead of resorting to chaos and arrests? It's really sad that it has to come to that 🤕.

omg what is goin on in south dakota lol these protesters are takin it 2 a whole new level 🤯 i mean i get where they're comin from but some1 needs 2 calm down & respect their fellow human beings u can't just block ppl's access 2 the podium & yell at them like dat 🙅‍♂️ governor noem is clearly tryna make a point but she's doin it in a way that's more hurtful than helpful idk maybe she should try findin some common ground w/ the other side & have a civil conversation instead of resortin 2 this chaos 😒

omg what's going on in south dakota rn?! 🤯 these protesters are taking it to a whole new level with all the chaos and stuff... i feel so bad for gov kristi noem, she was just tryin to have a respectful hearing and then BAM! all this craziness erupts. can't they just keep their opinions to themselves? 🙄 like, we get it, some ppl don't wanna let trans kids get medical care... but do they gotta be so aggressive about it? 😩 and the fact that lawmakers had to leave the room because of the disruption is just crazy talk... shoulda seen this comin' though, when u have ppl who are super passionate about an issue and they can't even agree on how to behave in public 🤦‍♀️

omg what's going on w/ these protests 🤯 I mean, I get that people have strong feelings about this topic, but disrupting an actual hearing? that's just not cool 😒. It's like they're taking away from the whole "finding solutions" vibe and turning it into a circus 🎪. And what's with the signs? can't they just stick to one message instead of spewing out all these different slogans 🤷‍♀️? I'm all for people expressing themselves, but come on, let's keep it civil 😊. The fact that Gov Noem and her colleagues are getting arrested for trying to do their jobs is, like, super concerning 🚨. We need lawmakers who can actually listen to each other and work towards a solution, not just shout over each other 👂.

OMG, like I'm still shook 😱 by what happened yesterday 🤯! I mean, Governor Noem and her crew were just trying to have a normal hearing about this bill, right? But nope, anti-trans protesters came out of nowhere and totally disrupted the whole thing 🚫😡. I know she's been saying some stuff that's not exactly trans-friendly in the past, but still... it's kinda sad when people get that upset 😔. And can we talk about how uncomfortable Noem looked? 😳 It was like her colleagues were trying to shield her from all the chaos 🤝. Anyway, I'm low-key glad some lawmakers had to bail on the hearing 🚫, but high-key worried about what this means for trans youth access to care 💔. This whole thing is just so... ugh 😩.

🤯 I'm still trying to process what happened at that hearing yesterday... It's crazy how quickly things can escalate when people are passionate about an issue. As someone who's been following this debate for a while, it's clear that we're living in a time where everyone has strong opinions on trans youth access to medical care.

🤔 I think it's interesting that the protesters were trying to block lawmakers from speaking, but at the same time, it seemed like they were more focused on expressing their own views rather than actually listening to the others. Don't get me wrong, I understand where they're coming from, but isn't it also important for them to hear out the other side?

🤷‍♀️ I'm also wondering how many people in that room were able to remain calm and composed amidst all the chaos? As someone who's always trying to be a positive thread in online discussions, it's making me think about how we can all try to approach these kinds of conversations with empathy and understanding... 💬

🚨 This whole thing is super concerning 🤕. I mean, who gets to decide what's best for our kids' health? It feels like we're being pulled in two different directions and no one's really listening to each other's perspectives. I get that some people are worried about the potential effects of hormone treatments on young minds, but it's not just a simple yes or no situation. There are so many complexities involved 🤯.

And can't we have a conversation about this without resorting to chaos and disruption? It's like we're more interested in scoring points than actually understanding each other's concerns 😐. I'm all for respectful disagreement, but this kind of protest feels really divisive. We need to find a way to work together that doesn't involve shutting down the very system meant to represent our voices 💬.

OMG, this is so messed up 🤯! I don't get why people can't just have a calm conversation about something that affects everyone. The idea that kids with gender dysphoria are being pushed into puberty hormones because of some bill is just crazy talk 💀. And then to disrupt the whole hearing and yell at the governor, it's like, what's next? 🤷‍♂️ I think both sides should try to find common ground and not be so extreme. We're talking about kids here, for crying out loud! They deserve some respect and dignity 💕. Can't we just agree to disagree without getting violent or aggressive? 🙅‍♂️

OMG, I'm so frustrated about this 🤯! Can't we just have a respectful discussion about something that affects people's lives? This protest was completely unprofessional and hurtful 😢. Noem is already taking a tough stance on this issue, but does she really need to be targeted like that? It's not fair to the trans kids who are trying to get the care they need 🤕. And what's with all these "Protect children from puberty-based treatments" signs? Like, what even is that supposed to mean? It's just causing more division and hate 💔. Can't we all just try to understand each other and find common ground for once? 🤗

I'm all about these long threads of discussion 💡. So, I was thinking, what really gets my thread going is how we talk about trans rights and the way politicians like Kristi Noem respond to criticism 🤔. It feels like whenever someone tries to have a respectful conversation, it devolves into chaos 😬. And can we talk about how our language around this issue becomes super loaded? Like, "protecting children" is one thing, but what does that even mean in practice? 🤷‍♀️ Is it really about medical care, or is it about broader societal attitudes towards trans people? I'm curious to hear more thoughts on this from folks who are all over the spectrum ⚖️.

I'm not surprised to see this kind of chaos in our country 🤯. Politicians just can't seem to agree on anything anymore. It's like they think people are too stupid to make their own decisions about their health care 🙄. And these anti-trans protesters, they're just so misinformed 🤦‍♂️. I mean, puberty-based treatments aren't even a thing for most trans kids... it's hormone blockers and puberty suppressants at best 💉. It's all just a bunch of misinformation being spread around to manipulate people into supporting these radical bills 📰.

And let's be real, this is just another example of how our politics have become so polarized that we can't even have a respectful conversation about anything anymore 🤕. We need to find some common ground and actually listen to each other's perspectives before making decisions that affect people's lives 💬. But I guess that's just too much to ask from some folks these days 😒.

🤞 I'm not sure why these protesters are so worked up about something that's really just about giving kids access to medical care... like, what's the worst that could happen? They're just trying to protect their children, right? And it's not like this is a new issue – has anyone actually read the research on puberty blockers and hormone treatments for trans youth? 🤔 It seems to me that we should be focusing on supporting our kids' mental health and well-being, rather than causing more division and tension. 😊

🤯 I'm so worried about what's happening with these protests and lawmakers being super uncomfortable... Can't we just listen to each other's perspectives? 🙏 I mean, Governor Noem is trying to do her job, but it feels like this whole thing is getting really heated 💥. As someone who cares about trans kids, I can see why they'd be upset - puberty blockers are a serious medical treatment that should be available to whoever needs it 🤝. Meanwhile, some people are genuinely concerned for the well-being of all children 🌟... we need to find a way to understand each other's fears and concerns without resorting to chaos 😕. Can't we just talk this out? 💬

omg i just saw this on my feed and i'm still trying to process what happened 🤯 like no wonder they say things are divided in america rn... it's not even close to being civil anymore 😩 how can people be so passionate about something that doesn't even affect them? 🤷‍♀️ at the same time, can u imagine being kristi noem and having to deal with all those ppl yelling at u while u're just trying to do ur job 💁‍♀️ anyway, i think it's super sad that this is what politics has come to in america these days... 🙅‍♂️

🙅‍♂️ I'm not surprised by the chaos that erupted in that hearing. It's been crystal clear for ages that this topic is going to be a super divisive one, especially with people so passionate about it on both sides. The thing is, though, shouldn't we all just want what's best for those affected? 🤔 I mean, isn't access to medical care the bare minimum they should get when it comes to their health and wellbeing?

omg is this real life?! i cant even imagine being in a situation like that 🤯 i mean i know there are strong feelings on both sides of the debate but chaos?? 😲 what would you do if u were governor kristi noem? 😕 i feel bad for her and her colleagues, they're just trying to do their job 💼 i guess this is just another example of how politics can get super heated 🚨 anyway, it makes me wonder, are there really that many people who are against trans kids getting medical care? 🤔
