Rahha Café to serve bold Yemeni coffee and quick bites in Midtown - Detroit Metro Times

Rahha Café, A New Corner for Comfort and Community in Midtown Detroit

As Midtown continues to evolve into a vibrant hub of cultural diversity, a new addition is set to bring warmth and comfort to the neighborhood. Rahha Café, located within the Hannan Center at 4750 Woodward Avenue, promises to become a beloved gathering spot for students, workers, and locals alike.

The concept behind Rahha Café is rooted in the Arabic word "raha," which translates to "comfort" or "peace of mind." Founded by alumni of Wayne State University and first-generation immigrants from Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Pakistan, the café's founders aim to create a welcoming space that serves as a refuge for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Fadel Al-Marsoumi, one of the café's co-founders, describes Rahha Café as "a modern brunch place that blends Middle Eastern flavors with Detroit's brunch culture." The menu is carefully crafted to showcase bold Yemeni coffee and Adeni chai, which are renowned for their distinct flavors. For those who prefer more traditional fare, pancakes and waffles will also be available.

Yemeni Coffee: A Flavorful Legacy

Yemeni coffee, made from Arabica beans that have been spiced and dried in the sun, is a staple of Middle Eastern cuisine. According to Al-Marsoumi, "Yemeni coffee is actually one of the oldest and most distinct coffees in the world." Its unique taste, which he describes as "chocolatey and earthy flavored," is sure to intrigue even the most seasoned coffee connoisseurs.

Community at the Heart of Rahha Café

While the menu may cater to a wide range of tastes, the café's founders have emphasized their commitment to creating an inclusive atmosphere that welcomes everyone. As Al-Marsoumi notes, "We're not trying to cater to a very extravagant model where prices are very expensive." The target demographic is primarily students and hospital employees who require affordable breakfast and lunch options.

A Celebration of Community

To celebrate its grand opening, Rahha Café will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17th, from noon to 2 p.m. Join the café's founders and team members, including Farook Salah, Ahmad Abu-Zahra, and Rafid Al-Marsoumi, as they cut the ribbon and officially open their doors to the community.

As Rahha Café becomes a part of Midtown Detroit's fabric, it promises to bring people together through its warm atmosphere, delicious food, and commitment to affordability. For those seeking a comfortable retreat in the heart of the city, Rahha Café is poised to become a beloved destination.

Ugh, another new spot in midtown Detroit... I mean, who doesn't love overpriced coffee and brunch? 😒 But hey, if it's got a cool concept and a cute logo 🤔, maybe it'll be worth checking out. The fact that it's run by WSU alumni and first-gen immigrants is awesome, btw 🙏. Maybe we can finally get to know some new faces in our community 👥. As long as the coffee isn't too bitter, I'm all for giving Rahha Café a try ☕️. Can't wait to see what kind of vibes they'll be serving up... hopefully not just pretentious hipster stuff 🤷‍♀️.

I'm telling you, this new café in Midtown Detroit is more than just a place for brunch... 🤔 It's like they're trying to create a vibe or something. The founders are alumni from Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Pakistan, so I wonder if there's some kind of hidden agenda there? Maybe they're trying to bring people together with their Middle Eastern food and drinks to counterbalance all the negative stuff going on in the world? 🌎 And have you seen the prices? They say it's affordable for students and hospital employees, but what if that's just a way to get them hooked and then raise the prices later? 😒

🍰👥 I think this cafe is gonna be awesome! They're really focusing on creating a welcoming space for everyone, which is super important. The menu sounds delicious too, especially with the Yemeni coffee - it's gotta be interesting trying that for the first time! 🤔 One thing I'm curious about is how affordable they'll make everything, since they mentioned targeting students and hospital employees. I hope it won't break the bank for regular folks who wanna grab a bite to eat there. 😊

I'm wondering if Rahha Café will be able to attract a lot of locals in Midtown Detroit? 🤔 I mean, it's cool that they're bringing Middle Eastern flavors to the brunch scene and creating a welcoming space for students and hospital employees... but will people come from all over for food or is it just gonna be a hidden gem for those who already know about it? 🤷‍♀️ I'm also curious if their prices will really be affordable, considering they're not trying to go super cheap. Also, have they thought about hosting events and activities in the café that'll make it feel like more than just a place to grab food and coffee? 👀

I'm stoked to hear about Rahha Café, it's gonna be lit 🤩! I mean, who doesn't love a cozy spot with comfy vibes and delicious food? It's awesome that they're serving Yemeni coffee, I've had it before and it's so rich and flavorful. I also like that they're trying to make it accessible for students and hospital employees, that's really cool. Let's keep supporting our local businesses and making Midtown Detroit an even more amazing place 🙌. Can't wait to check it out and grab a cup of their famous Yemeni coffee ☕️!

ugh, another fancy new place to spend a ton of money on overpriced coffee 🤷‍♂️. like who actually needs Yemeni coffee that's "chocolatey and earthy flavored"? just gonna be some hipster trying to sound cool with their "adventurous" taste buds. and great, more student debt for people who already can't afford a place to live in detroit 😒. all this hype about community, but I'm sure it'll just be a bunch of entitled students and young professionals showing up to take Instagram pics 📸

This new café is like Obama trying to broker peace between worlds - it's all about bringing folks together, ya know? I love that they're incorporating Yemeni coffee into their menu, it's like they're speaking the language of community and comfort. But what really gets me is how affordable they're making it for students and hospital employees - that's like Bernie Sanders' promise to make healthcare universal, minus the politics 😊.

And let's talk about ownership structure - first-generation immigrants from Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Pakistan starting a business in Midtown Detroit? That's like America's melting pot in action, folks! They're not just serving food, they're building bridges between cultures. I'm all for it 💪.
