Repair Crews Finish Water Main Fix in Walnut Creek, Traffic Returns to Normal
A major road in Walnut Creek was back open for traffic on Saturday night after a week-long closure caused by a broken water main. The break, which occurred at the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Homestead Avenue, initially disrupted the lives of several customers who were left without access to water until Friday morning.
The East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) repair crew worked tirelessly from 2:45 pm on Thursday to complete the fix by 5 pm on Saturday. The team successfully refilled and paved over an excavated pit where a 70-year-old pipe had burst, bringing an end to the road closure.
However, before traffic could resume normalcy, the city's police department was tasked with providing additional security in the area. Walnut Creek police continued to monitor traffic until at least 8 pm on Saturday evening, as part of their efforts to ensure public safety while also reinstalled a removed traffic signal pole that had been taken out during the repair work.
Residents were advised to steer clear of the affected road until the signal pole was back in place and the police presence was lifted. With all necessary repairs complete, the repaired water main has restored a sense of normalcy to Walnut Creek's transportation network.
