RFU: Bill Sweeney positive about accounts despite loss of nearly £2m

Rugby Football Union chief executive Bill Sweeney has expressed optimism about the sport's future, despite a "challenging" year marked by an overall loss of nearly £2m. The RFU accounts, released recently, show a 10-year high revenue but a net deficit of £1.9m.

Sweeney describes the year as "positive", highlighting various achievements, including significant growth in membership and improved financial performance. While acknowledging the losses, he emphasizes that the organization is well-placed to overcome current difficulties.

omg 2 yrs ago i was like rugby wnt b extinct lol but its cool 2 c rfu gettin back on track financially 🤑🏉 tho £1.9m loss still kinda scary tho i guess the membership growth means more people r intrested n the sport, which is def good news 🤞 so lets hope rfu can keep it up & turn a profit soon 🕒

Life's like rugby - you can't win 'em all 🏉😬 Still, it's how you learn from those losses that matters! As long as the RFU keeps pushing forward and adapting to the changing landscape, I'm sure they'll be back on track in no time 💪.

idk what's so positive about losin almost 2 million pounds 🤑 i mean, who wins a game when u gotta pay all ur debts outta ur own pocket? 🤷‍♂️ i guess its good they got more members or whatever but thats not gonna make up for the cash they're burnin through 🔥 and yeah, yeah, they're doin fine... till they ain't 😏

the rugby thing... yeah i mean its cool that membership grew but 2m loss? thats like, a lot of money. didnt they used to be all about winning tournaments or something? now its just trying to break even? anyway, the CEO guy sounds pretty chill about it tho, optimistic and all that. still dont really get why sports orgs have to balance so much... revenue's up but net deficit's down by 19m? like what's going on there?

man rugby's got some issues 🤕 but i think they're on the right track 😊 bill sweeney sounds like a cool dude for being optimistic about their future 🌞 and yeah membership growth is def a good thing 📈 but £1.9m deficit is still kinda steep 💸 maybe they need to work on cutting costs or finding new revenue streams? 🤔

so rugby's having a tough time financially 🤔... £1.9m loss, that's like, what's wrong? did they just start giving money away or something? lol 🤑 anyway, 10-year high revenue is cool, I guess? how does that work? if their membership grew and their finances improved, wouldn't that mean more money coming in? 🤷‍♀️ also, i'm no expert but doesn't £1.9m loss kinda sound like a big deal? like, how much money do they need to make back from the losses? 💸

🤔 Rugby's Future Looking Up? 🏉
I think it's cool how Bill Sweeney is still optimistic about rugby despite the losses. I mean, £2m loss isn't great, but 10-year high revenue is a big deal! 📈 It shows that some things are going well for them. Membership growth is definitely a good sign - more people playing means more fans in the long run. 💪 The fact that they're still making money and losing less than last year is like a small win, right? 🏆 I think it's great that Sweeney is focusing on what went well and not just dwelling on the losses. It gives me hope for the sport's future! 😊

You know what's wild? I was just watching this crazy video of a squirrel trying to open a nut with its teeth 🐿️, and it made me think about how some rugby players are like those squirrels - all fierce and determined on the field, but then they get injured and can't even crack open their own snacks! 😂 Anyway, back to the RFU... I'm kinda surprised they're not more optimistic about the £2m loss, considering they've got a 10-year high revenue. It's like, yeah, you might have made some money from all the matches and whatnot, but then you go and lose nearly that much... 🤷‍♂️ Still, I guess Bill Sweeney seems like a pretty down-to-earth guy, so maybe he knows something we don't? 🤔

🤔 just saw this news about rugby union... seems like they're doing alright financially, revenue's gone up by 10 years high, but still losing a bunch of cash. £1.9m loss is no joke 🤑. still, their CEO is being all positive about it, saying the year was "positive" and stuff. membership growth is a good thing tho, that's gotta be worth something 📈. not sure if i'd be able to afford tickets even if they were cheaper though 😅. think its cool they're looking on the bright side of things tho, rather than just giving up 💪.

Ugh, can't believe how bloated the RFU's finances are 🤯📉 They're making a profit on paper but still managing to rack up nearly £2m in losses. That's like, a decent-sized football stadium worth of cash just evaporating into thin air 💸😕 And what really gets my goat is that Sweeney is calling it a "positive" year 🙄 Like, no, mate, you can't just gloss over the fact that you're hemorrhaging money and pretend everything is rosy 💔 I get that growth in membership is cool and all, but that's not exactly putting food on the table for me 👀

Ugh, gotta say, £2m loss? That's a lot for a sport that's supposed to be all about physicality and toughness 🤕. And it's not like they can just blame the weather or whatever excuse people use in other sports. The fact is, rugby's in financial trouble, and it's not just a minor hiccup. I mean, a 10-year high revenue? That sounds good on paper, but what does it really mean when you're still losing money overall? And £1.9m loss? That's like, almost as bad as saying their membership growth is just a drop in the bucket 🤑...it's not exactly reassuring to hear that they think they can "overcome current difficulties" 😒

🤔 so i was thinking rugby union's got some legit issues on its hands, right? a £2m loss in one year, and now they're saying it's a "positive" year 🙄? seems like a big jump from losses to gains just 'cause membership grew. i mean, what about the actual money that went out? still 1.9m net deficit, which is kinda a big deal 🤑. bill sweeney's optimism feels good on paper but let's not get ahead of ourselves here... we need to see some real action before i start putting my money on the rugby union's comeback story 💸
