Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,439

Russia's War on Ukraine Enters 1,439 Days: A Day-by-Day Recap

As Russia's war on Ukraine enters its 1,439th day, a grim assessment of the conflict's devastating impact on civilians and infrastructure is unfolding. Since February 2024, when the fighting began, nearly seven months have passed with minimal respite for those living under siege.

This week, at least 12 people were killed in Ukraine after Russian drone strikes targeted a bus carrying miners in Dnipropetrovsk region, with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal condemning the attacks as "cynical and targeted" assaults on energy workers. In another gruesome incident, a man and woman were killed in Dnipro, while nine people were injured in Russian drone strikes targeting a maternity ward and residential neighborhood in Zaporizhzhia.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of attempting to disrupt logistics and connectivity between Ukrainian cities through its aerial assaults. He claimed that Moscow had launched over 980 attack drones, nearly 1,100 guided aerial bombs, and two missiles against Ukraine.

As the war continues to wreak havoc on civilian life, many are struggling to cope with the lack of heating in their homes. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba reported that nearly 700 apartment buildings in Kyiv remain without heating due to previous Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

Russia's military claimed control over two Ukrainian settlements: Zelene in Kharkiv region and Sukhetske in Donetsk region, and also targeted transport infrastructure facilities used by the Ukrainian army.

In a recent development, tech billionaire Elon Musk reported that moves to stop Russia's unauthorized use of his SpaceX company's internet system Starlink seem to have worked. Ukrainian officials discovered Starlink terminals on long-range drones used in Russian attacks.

The conflict has led to a stalemate between Ukraine and Russia over a Washington-drafted plan to end the war. Zelenskyy announced that trilateral talks with US officials had been postponed to February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi, with no clear progress expected in finding a resolution.

Russian Deputy Chairman of Security Council Dmitry Medvedev praised US President Donald Trump's "brash" style as effective in seeking peace but denied moving nuclear submarines to Russian shores. He also stated that European powers had failed to defeat Russia in Ukraine but inflicted significant economic damage on themselves.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed bilateral relations with Russian Secretary of Security Council Sergei Shoigu, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and upholding multilateralism during a "time of turmoil".

The US-Russian New START pact is set to expire next week, sparking concerns about the potential escalation of nuclear tensions between the two nations.

๐Ÿค” Russia's war on Ukraine is like, getting super old man ๐Ÿ™ƒ 1,439 days in and it still feels like we're just getting started... I mean, who thought this was a good idea? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ The casualties are piling up and people are struggling to cope with basic things like heating in their homes. It's heartbreaking to think about families having to live without warmth during this winter.

I'm not sure what's more concerning - the fact that Russia is still using drones to attack civilians or that Elon Musk's Starlink system is being used by the Russians, but at least it's showing some progress ๐Ÿš€. The stalemate between Ukraine and Russia on the Washington-drafted plan is frustrating. Can't we just talk about this like civilized nations? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

I'm also worried about the US-Russian New START pact expiring next week. Nuclear tensions are already high enough... ๐Ÿ˜จ What if things escalate? It's like, let's try to be rational here and work together instead of trying to outdo each other. ๐Ÿค

The thought on this whole Russia-Ukraine thing is that if we keep poking our noses into someone else's problems, they're gonna poke ours back... hard. It's like when you try to move your neighbor's trash, but they just wanna throw it right back at ya ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿšฎ. We gotta learn to listen, understand the other person's perspective, and try to find common ground before we start throwing punches ๐ŸฅŠ. Easy said, tough done, but someone's gotta try ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ช. Maybe this whole situation is like a big mirror reflecting our own fears, insecurities, and conflicts... if we don't take a step back, look ourselves in the eye, and figure out why we're really fighting in the first place, it's just gonna keep spinning out of control ๐Ÿ”.

OH MY GOSH, 1,439 DAYS OF WAR IS JUST TOO MUCH!!! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ IT'S LIKE RUSSIA AND UKRAINE ARE STUCK IN THIS NEVER-ENDING NIGHTMARE! ๐Ÿ’” THE CIVILIAN CASUALTIES ARE TRULY HEARTBREAKING - MINERS GETTING DRONE STRIKES, MATERNITY WARDS UNDER ATTACK, PEOPLE FROSTING THEIR BUTTS OFF WITHOUT HEATING IN THEIR HOMES ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE NUCLEAR TENSIONS... ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ IT'S LIKE, CAN WE JUST FIND A PEACEFUL SOLUTION ALREADY?! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’” 1,439 days ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ of fighting in Ukraine is like forever ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Those innocent civilians caught in the middle are suffering so much ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Drone strikes on buses and maternity wards? ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ How can Russia do this? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ The war is having a huge impact on people's daily lives, no heating in apartments ๐Ÿ โ„๏ธ and still no end in sight.

Russia claims to be trying to disrupt logistics but it just seems like more chaos ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Elon Musk's Starlink system might have helped slow down some of the attacks ๐Ÿš€, but at what cost? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ The US-Russian New START pact is set to expire soon, which could lead to even bigger tensions โš ๏ธ.

It's time for peace negotiations to start ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ and a real solution to be found ๐Ÿ’ก. Ukraine needs our support now more than ever ๐Ÿ™. Can we make a difference? ๐Ÿคž

This war in Ukraine has been going on for like 1,439 days already ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Innocent people are getting killed and hurt by Russian drone strikes, it's so sad ๐Ÿค•. They're targeting energy workers and civilians, it's just not right ๐Ÿ˜ . The Ukrainian president is saying that Russia is trying to disrupt their cities' connections, but I don't think that's fair ๐Ÿ’”. Meanwhile, many people are struggling to stay warm without heat in their homes, it's really harsh โ„๏ธ. And now there's all this talk about the US and Russia not agreeing on anything, it's getting so tense ๐Ÿคฏ.

I don't even wanna think about this anymore ๐Ÿค•... 1,439 days of war and it feels like the world's just moving on without helping Ukraine ๐ŸŒŽ They're still struggling with heating in their homes and people are getting killed left and right ๐Ÿ’” I mean what's the point of talking about peace if we're not gonna do something? It's all just so... ugh ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I was reading this article and Elon Musk's tweet about Starlink and I'm like yeah finally, let's use some tech to help out ๐Ÿš€ But at the same time, it's crazy that Russia is still using it in their attacks ๐Ÿคฏ And what's with all these drone strikes? It feels like they're just bombing random places for no reason ๐Ÿ’ฃ

I don't know how Ukraine is even dealing with this all. The president's talking about trilateral talks but it sounds like nothing's ever gonna change ๐Ÿ’” My heart goes out to the people living in Ukraine, I wish we could do more to help ๐Ÿค—
