Sharks’ Klingberg takes a seat after miscue; Will roster spot be available for young center?

Sharks' Klingberg Takes a Seat After Miscue, Raises Questions About Roster Spot for Young Center

In a game that San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky described as "quick," the team struggled to defend against the Ottawa Senators' speedy attack. The miscue that cost the Sharks the lead came courtesy of defenseman John Klingberg, who was left out of position on a 2-on-0 breakaway. Tim Stützle poked home the equalizer with minutes to spare in the third period, sending the game into overtime before the Senators eventually won 3-2.

Klingberg's mistake will likely prompt further scrutiny from Warsofsky, who is looking for ways to improve his team's defense. "We don't scan well enough as a defense, we don't read it," he said, stressing the need for quick reads in today's fast-paced NHL game. The Sharks' blueliner acknowledged that he was caught out of position, but maintained that he reacted quickly.

The Sharks are struggling to get Klingberg his groove back after a healthy scratch just two days earlier when they hosted Utah. Warsofsky has been experimenting with different line combinations, including the 2-1-2 neutral-zone forecheck that Klingberg said he was expecting to see. However, despite this setup, Klingberg struggled to keep up.

The Sharks have an overabundance of defensemen on their roster, which has led to a tricky decision-making process for Warsofsky. With eight blueliners available, it's becoming increasingly difficult for him to determine the optimal lineup for every game while also allowing younger players like Sam Dickinson and Shakir Mukhamadullin to develop.

The Sharks' top prospect, Vincent Iorio, will soon be returning from his two-week conditioning loan with the Barracuda. However, Warsofsky has expressed concerns about overburdening Iorio, who is still developing his skills. As the team heads into a challenging week ahead that includes games against the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Vegas Golden Knights, questions will undoubtedly remain about Klingberg's role on the roster.

One potential solution could be for Warsofsky to create more playing time for veteran defenseman Nick Leddy, who has been scratched for three consecutive games. With Jeff Skinner and Michael Misa nearing their return from injury, Ostapchuk may find himself pushed out of the lineup, but his impressive work ethic has caught Warsofsky's attention.

As the Sharks navigate these roster decisions, Klingberg will need to regain his footing in order to reclaim his spot on the team. Will he be able to rise to the challenge, or will another player seize the opportunity? Only time will tell.

idk what's so exciting about hockey 🤷‍♂️ i mean, it's just a bunch of guys hitting each other with sticks...anyway, i'm not buying into all this fuss over Klingberg's mistake. like, he gets caught out, big deal. happens to the best of them. warsofsky should just stick with what works and stop trying to mix things up. it's not like Klingberg is the only one struggling - sam dickinson and shakir mukhamadullin are getting benched too, so why make a big deal about it?

man this sharks team is so confusing 🤔 like warsofsky's trying to give klingberg a break but at the same time we don't know what he's doing on the ice anymore 🙅‍♂️ i feel for sam dickinson and shakir mukhamadullin they deserve some playing time too 🤞 maybe warsofsky can mix things up like create more neutral zone forecheck with nick leddy? idk how to help klingberg regain his form but maybe some extra coaching or watching game tapes could do the trick 📺

OMG 🙄, I'm like totally shocked that Klingberg was left out of position on that breakaway 🤦‍♂️! I mean, come on, it's not exactly rocket science to read the play and stay home 😅. Warsofsky should really be looking at his defensive lineups and making some changes ASAP ⏰. And can we talk about how many defensemen they have? 8?! 🤯 That's just too many players vying for spots. Maybe Klingberg should focus on being a better player instead of expecting the coach to create more playing time for him 🙃.

And I'm not buying that Klingberg said he reacted quickly 🚫. We all know how that ends... 😒. Warsofsky needs to be firmer with his players and hold them accountable for their mistakes. Otherwise, they'll just keep making the same errors over and over 💔. The Sharks are going to have to step up their game if they want to make it in this competitive league 🎯.

I also don't think Iorio is ready to be back in the lineup just yet 🙅‍♂️. Warsofsky needs to give him some more time on the conditioning loan before throwing him into the fire 🔥. And what's with all these roster changes? It's like they're trying to solve a puzzle without even thinking about how it'll all fit together 🤯.

🤔 so the sharks are stuck between a rock and a hard place with klingberg not getting enough ice time 🚫 they're trying to find the right balance with their dmen but it's tough when you have 8 blueliners on the roster 🙈 maybe nick leddy can step up and show warsofsky what he's got? 🤞

omg what a quick game for the sharks lol they literally got outskated by ottawa I mean i feel for klingberg but come on dude leave john out of position and let senators score 🤦‍♂️. Warsofsky needs to sort this roster mess ASAP with 8 defensemen and all these young players trying to develop... it's like a hockey version of musical chairs over here 🎶. maybe nick leddy can save the day? 💡 but for now, let's just say klingberg has some work to do 😅
