Shopify is down: Updates on the Cyber Monday outage disrupting your online shopping

Shopify's Cyber Monday Outage: A Holiday Season Headache

The e-commerce giant Shopify has faced a major setback on Cyber Monday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The platform's users were dealt a double blow as some merchants struggled to log in, while others experienced outages with their checkout and admin systems.

In a statement posted on X at 6:11PM yesterday, Shopify announced that it had identified a system degradation issue that was quickly resolved. However, the outage briefly affected the point-of-sale (POS) system, which also saw "degraded performance" in its API and mobile support systems.

Shopify continued to work on resolving issues with accessing admin interfaces for some merchants, as well as problems with POS checkouts due to a lack of access to the POS systems. In an update at 12:39PM ET, the company stated that it was continuing to investigate and apply mitigations for these issues.

However, the company's own account posted just hours before the outage, boasting about its ability to handle high traffic volumes during the holiday rush, sparking irony given the recent disruption. The team had claimed a wait time of 56 seconds in their previous post on November 27, which has yet to be replicated.

In an update at 2:31PM ET, Shopify announced that it had fixed an issue with its login authentication flow and was seeing signs of recovery for admin and POS login issues. While some services are still experiencing disruptions, the company hopes to minimize the impact on holiday shopping.

As one of the largest ecommerce platforms in the US, powering 12 percent of online sales, Shopify's reliability is crucial for many major brands such as Netflix, Mattel, Supreme, Glossier, and Converse.

this cyber monday outage is a harsh reminder that even the most well-oiled machines can break down under immense pressure ๐Ÿคฏ shopify's struggles highlight how quickly we rely on technology to facilitate our daily lives, and how much stress it puts on the systems that support us ๐Ÿ’ป it's like trying to rush through life without taking a breath - eventually, you're gonna choke ๐Ÿคฎ what's interesting is that shopify itself seemed almost glib about its own limitations in their post right before the outage... i mean, who boasts about wait times on social media? ๐Ÿ™„ now, they're scrambling to fix issues that could have been mitigated with more humility and foresight ๐ŸŒŸ

Ugh, I'm so relieved they fixed their login issues ๐Ÿ™Œ, but at the same time, I'm like "wait, you guys just posted about handling high traffic and now you're having outages? Like, aren't they saying the same thing?" ๐Ÿค” It's all a bit confusing. And don't even get me started on how frustrating it must be for merchants who were trying to do their holiday shopping... I mean, can't we all just get along with our online payments ๐Ÿ’ธ?! But seriously, 56 seconds might seem like nothing, but when you're dealing with thousands of transactions, that's a whole lotta wait time ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. Can Shopify just get it together for once? ๐Ÿ˜‚

OMG u guys i cant even lol so cyber monday was like a total disaster on shopify they were down left & right some ppl cldnt even log in & others had issues w/ checkouts ๐Ÿคฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ & admin systems its like "lol we can handle all this traffic" NOPE 56 sec wait time was like 1 sec lol now they r saying its fixed tho & stuff so lets hope its true ๐Ÿ’ช

ugh I'm soooo not impressed with Shopify right now ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ #ShopifyFail #CyberMondayOutage ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. I mean who wants to deal with outages on the biggest shopping day of the year? It's like they're playing a cruel joke on their merchants and customers alike ๐Ÿ˜’. And can we talk about how unprofessional it was for them to post about handling high traffic just hours before the outage happened? Like, own up to your mistakes and be real with your users! ๐Ÿ’ฏ #TransparencyIsKey #CustomerServiceMatters ๐Ÿ’ป. On the bright side, they did manage to fix some issues pretty quickly so kudos for that ๐Ÿ˜Š #ShopifyRecoveries #LessonsLearned ๐Ÿ“š.

shopify needs a new game plan ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. can't have one of biggest ecommerce platforms in usa crashing on cyber monday ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. gotta step up their outage-recovery game ASAP ๐Ÿ’ป.

Ugh, I'm so done with Cyber Monday outages already ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ! Can't believe Shopify had a total meltdown on the busiest shopping day of the year ๐Ÿ“ˆ. The irony is just killing me - they were all like "we're ready for high traffic" and then BAM, system degradation issue ๐Ÿ˜ณ. I mean, I get it's holiday season chaos, but can't we expect more from our e-commerce platforms? ๐Ÿ’” At least they're working on fixing the issues now, fingers crossed everything goes back to normal soon ๐Ÿคž. And seriously, how do you even manage to have a login authentication flow issue and then just "fix" it without any warning? Poor merchants who were stuck in limbo while trying to get their online stores up and running ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ˜ฉ

๐Ÿ˜ฉ ugh! cyber monday is already ruined for a lot of ppl i mean, shopify is like the backbone of ecommerce right now and they just went and dropped the ball on the busiest shopping day of the year! i was planning to make some sick purchases but now those are gonna be cancelled thanks to their own tech issues ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ i feel for all the merchants who rely on them too, i mean 12% of online sales is HUGE, how r they supposed to keep up with that kinda demand? ๐Ÿ’ป anyway, hopefully shopify gets it sorted out ASAP and doesn't mess up christmas for everyone ๐Ÿ˜…

Ugh, this is like when I was a kid and my mom would leave the Xbox on during holiday shopping ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... just kidding! But seriously, Shopify's Cyber Monday meltdown is a major bummer for merchants who rely on the platform to get their sales up during the busiest time of the year ๐Ÿ˜ž. It's like they said one thing in their tweet, but then didn't follow through ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, if you're gonna brag about handling high traffic, make sure it happens, you know? ๐Ÿ’ช Now, I'm glad they were able to fix some issues, but 12% of online sales is a big responsibility ๐Ÿ˜…... can't have the main players (like Netflix and Supreme) getting taken down by a minor glitch ๐Ÿคฏ.

I mean, it's crazy how one of the biggest e-commerce players like Shopify can experience a huge outage on Cyber Monday, right? ๐Ÿคฏ It's like they're saying 'oh yeah, we've got this' just hours before the chaos hits... ๐Ÿ˜‚ And then to have merchants struggling to log in or checkout, and stuff getting messed up with their point-of-sale systems? That's just a major headache for everyone involved. ๐Ÿ’” The irony is that Shopify was all about handling high traffic volumes without any issues... now they're stuck trying to fix the problems ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

And it's not like this is a small problem, either - Shopify powers 12% of online sales in the US alone! So when something goes wrong, it can have a huge ripple effect on all those businesses that rely on them. I hope they get everything sorted out ASAP so the holiday shopping doesn't take too much of a hit ๐Ÿ’จ.

It's just one of those days where you're like 'why didn't this happen before?' and then you think about how Shopify is working around the clock to fix it... still, it's not exactly what you want on Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Ugh, what a disaster ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ! I mean, come on Shopify, how can you claim to be the best platform for high traffic volumes and then have a huge outage on Cyber Monday? ๐Ÿ˜ณ It's like they weren't paying attention to their own hype. And to make matters worse, it seems like some merchants are still struggling with login issues and POS checkouts ๐Ÿค”. I feel bad for those business owners who were counting on Shopify to run smoothly during the holiday rush. It's a good thing they're working hard to fix the issue ASAP โฑ๏ธ, but hopefully, they can rebuild their reputation quickly ๐Ÿ’ช.
