Showers and thunderstorms expected ahead of Friday night cold front

Southeast Texas is bracing for another day of warm temperatures, but a cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms by Friday night.

Residents are advised to carry an umbrella and consider packing their jackets as the mercury rises throughout the day, peaking at around 80 degrees in the afternoon. While morning fog patches may provide some relief from the heat, afternoon storms will intensify, with widespread rain and thunderstorms expected across the region.

While severe weather is not forecasted for Southeast Texas, there's a slight chance of tornadoes in neighboring Louisiana. However, if severe weather were to develop locally, it would likely be due to strong winds or hail rather than more violent conditions like damaging tornadoes.

Marathon weekend runners can expect chilly temperatures on Saturday and Sunday as the cold front moves through, with highs only reaching the mid-50s and low 60s. A north wind will persist throughout the weekend, reducing sunshine and limiting warmth.

Looking ahead to the second half of January, winter weather patterns are expected to shift across Canada and the US. For now, however, a warm spell is in place before the cold front arrives, bringing showers and thunderstorms to Southeast Texas by Friday night.
