Signal’s secure message backups arrive on iOS

Signal is expanding its feature to store encrypted messages, allowing users to back up and restore their data in case of a device failure.

The app's free version can save 100MB worth of text messages along with media content from the past 45 days. However, users who want more storage space will need to upgrade to a paid plan for $1.99 per month. The paid option allows users to back up their messages and additional media beyond the 45-day limit.

To use this feature, users must first enable secure backups in the app's settings menu, where they can choose between the free or paid plan after creating a recovery key that will be used to access their backup. Signal has announced plans to expand this feature to its desktop app and allow users to transfer their encrypted messaging history across different platforms.

In September, the company launched this feature on Android devices for users with end-to-end encryption. Since then, users must store their 64-character recovery key securely in case they need it later.

just think about how much of a lifesaver this is 🙌! i mean, losing all your messages and media can be super frustrating, especially if you're on a tight deadline or something. having the option to back up and restore them is like having a safety net 🛡️. it's awesome that signal is making this feature available for free, but also giving users the option to upgrade for more storage space 💸. can't wait to see this feature roll out on desktop apps too! 👍

OMG u guys! Signal is literally taking over the world 🤯! I'm low-key impressed how they're expanding their encrypted message storage feature. I mean, who doesn't love being able to back up their DMs in case something goes down with their phone? 📱 100MB might not seem like a lot but it's def better than nothing, right? 😂 And the fact that they're offering free and paid plans is genius! $1.99 a month isn't too shabby at all 💸. I'm totes stoked they're planning to expand this feature to their desktop app too... now we can finally have our encrypted messaging history in one place 🌐 Can't wait for the desktop version, it's gonna be 🔥!

🤩 I'm so stoked that Signal is rolling out this awesome backup feature! 🚀 It's amazing to know that our messages are protected and we can rest easy knowing they're safe in case something happens to our device 😌. The fact that they're making it available for free, even if just 100MB of storage space, is a huge win in my book 🎉. I mean, who needs more than that, right? 🤷‍♀️ Plus, the paid plan is super reasonable at $1.99 per month 💸. And I love that they're expanding this feature to their desktop app and allowing us to transfer our encrypted messaging history across platforms 📱👍. It's like Signal is just getting more and more awesome by the day 😆!

Omg I'm so down for Signal expanding its backup feature 🤩! I mean, losing all my encrypted messages is like, a total disaster 😱. It's kinda crazy how easy it'll be to back up and restore them now. And the fact that they're making it available on desktop too? That's just awesome 💻. I do hope they make the paid plan more affordable tho... $1.99/month seems a bit steep for me 🤑.

omg I'm so hyped about signal expanding its backup feature 🤩💻! no more worrying about losing all my chat history if i ever get a new device or something 😅. and the fact that we can store our messages and media for 45 days is pretty cool too, but like a month just doesn't cut it, you know? I'd be willing to pay $1.99 a month for the extra storage space 🤑. and i love that they're planning to add this feature to their desktop app too! transferring my encrypted history across platforms is a total game changer 📈

Ugh, I'm not sure about Signal's new feature... I mean, it's cool that they're giving us a way to back up our messages and media, but the free version is super limited. 100MB of storage space just isn't enough for most people. And $1.99 a month? That adds up quickly. Plus, what if my device does fail and I need to restore my data? Do I really want to be locked into Signal's backup system?

I'm also not sold on the whole recovery key thing. 64 characters is a pretty long password to remember... 😕 And what about security risks? If someone gets their hands on that key, they'll have access to all my encrypted messages. Not exactly something I want to worry about.

And then there's the desktop app thing... just more complexity for me, thanks. Can't we just stick with what works, you know? 🤔

just saw this news about signal expanding its backup feature 🤔. so if you have a lot of messages stored and your phone breaks or something, now you can get them back from the cloud lol what a lifesaver! but $1.99 per month is still kinda steep imo i mean, i get that it's encrypted etc but 100mb just isn't enough for some people... maybe they should consider making it free after like a year of use or something? anyway, can't wait to try this out when it comes to desktop app 🖥️

Signal expanding its features is a step in the right direction but $1.99 a month feels like a lot for some people's lives. think about all the folks who are on the edge and already struggling to make ends meet 🤑 can't we just get this free?

🤔 I mean, wow, a paid plan that's like $1.99 per month? That's like, 80 cents a day... who hasn't got 80 cents just lying around for Signal to take? 😂 Just kidding, kinda. Seriously though, the idea of being able to back up your encrypted messages is super cool. I've had my phone die on me before and it was a real pain to lose all those texts and pics 📱💔. But hey, at least now you can just recover them from Signal's servers... as long as they don't get hacked or anything 🤖😬.

I'm so glad Signal is adding more security features to its app 🙌! I was a bit worried about my messages getting lost if something happened to my phone... but now I can rest easy knowing I can back them up and restore them easily 😊. The fact that they're making it available for free, just with limited storage space, is a great starting point for users like me who don't need as much space 📈. And the price for the paid plan is super reasonable at $1.99/month - it's not too steep considering all the benefits I'll get from having my messages backed up 🔒. I'm also excited to hear that they're expanding this feature to their desktop app, so I can use it even when I'm on a laptop or tablet 🖥️!

I think Signal is really taking security to a whole new level 💻! I mean, being able to back up your encrypted messages and restore them when you need to is just genius. And the fact that it's now free to save 100MB of text messages and media content from the past 45 days is like, yay for users on a budget 🤑. But, yeah, if you want more storage space, you're gonna have to shell out $1.99 per month, which I get, but still...

And I love that they're planning to expand this feature to their desktop app and even allow us to transfer our encrypted messaging history across different platforms! That's like, the ultimate level of convenience and security 🤩. And having to store your recovery key securely is just a minor inconvenience compared to losing all your messages forever 😱.

Anyway, I'm stoked to see Signal leading the way in terms of security and user protection 💯!

I remember back when I was using BlackBerry Messenger and had to delete messages after 30 days if my phone died... those were the days! 😂 Now, Signal's got this amazing feature where you can backup all your encrypted messages and restore them whenever you want? That's so cool! I love how they're giving users options with both free and paid plans, but honestly, who needs that much storage space for their messages? It's like, what's the rush? 🤔 Still, it's awesome that they're expanding this feature to desktop apps and cross-platform transfers... it's like having your whole messaging history at your fingertips! 💻 What really got me thinking is how we used to have to carry around a physical notebook or keep a list of contacts to back up our messages before... now we've got all these amazing secure messaging apps like Signal 📱.

🤔 I'm glad Signal is finally stepin' up its game when it comes to data security and backup. As someone who's been usin' the app for years, I know how frustrating it can be to lose your encrypted messages due to a device crash or whatever.

So, the fact that they're now offerin' this feature with both free and paid options is super convenient. I mean, 100MB of text messages ain't goin' nowhere, but for those who need more storage space, the paid plan's a no-brainer. It's only $1.99 a month, which is like, what, pennies compared to the peace of mind it'll give you.

And I'm stoked they're expandin' this feature to their desktop app too! It just shows that Signal's committed to protectin' its users' data and makin' sure we don't lose our important stuff. Can't wait to see what else they got in store for us 📱

OMG you guys! 🤯 I just saw that Signal is getting a major upgrade to its backup feature 💻📈 and I'm low-key freaking out! 🙌 The free version can save up to 100MB of messages from the past 45 days, which is already more than enough for me. But let's be real, who doesn't want unlimited storage? 🤷‍♀️ The paid plan is only $1.99/month, which is like, super affordable! 💸

Here's a stat: did you know that in the past year alone, 70% of users have experienced device failure or loss? 😱 That's a lot of people who need to back up their encrypted messages ASAP! 📈 And with Signal's new feature, they can do just that. I'm loving how user-friendly it is too - no tech expert required! 🙌

Anyway, I think this is a huge win for Signal and its users. The fact that they're expanding this feature to the desktop app and allowing users to transfer their encrypted messaging history across platforms? 🤩 That's just genius! 👏
