Sinking of SS United States to be livestreamed using drones and underwater cameras

Livestream of SS United States Sinking to Go Live Soon via Drones and Underwater Cameras

For the first time in nearly 30 years, fans can witness the historic ocean liner's final journey without having to travel to Florida. The SS United States, a ship that set multiple records during its time, including holding the transatlantic speed record, is being prepared to meet its fate by being sunk off the coast of the Florida panhandle as an artificial reef.

The county of Okaloosa, which purchased the vessel for $1 million in 2024 after a lengthy legal battle, has committed $10 million towards cleaning and sinking the ship. This monumental task will be captured live via drones and underwater cameras, providing viewers with a unique and intimate experience. Two production companies, WMV Productions from Nashville, Tennessee, and Gannet Creative House from Destin-Fort Walton Beach, have been awarded contracts to stream the event.

The SS United States has an impressive history, having carried four U.S. presidents – Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, and Bill Clinton – as well as celebrities such as Walt Disney, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and John Wayne. The ship's legacy will continue to be celebrated with a museum dedicated to its story, which will feature pieces from the vessel, including its iconic smokestacks.

The livestream event is expected to take place before the end of the year, although an official date has not been announced yet. For now, fans can look forward to witnessing the SS United States's final journey in a way that was previously impossible – and it will all be available to watch live on various platforms.

Man... this is like when life comes full circle, you know? The SS United States, which has been sailing for decades, is finally going to come to rest. It's crazy to think about how it's gonna end up as an artificial reef, giving a new lease on life to the ocean and all the creatures that call it home 🌊💦

I mean, we're always talking about legacy and how our actions affect others. The SS United States has had so many incredible moments in its history, carrying world leaders and legends like they were nobodies. But now, it's gonna be sinking into the sea, leaving behind a piece of itself for future generations to discover 🌴

It's all about perspective, right? What we consider "wasting" might just become something beautiful to someone else. The fact that this ship is getting reborn as an artificial reef teaches us to not take things too seriously and appreciate the beauty in transformation 💫

It's amazing that they're making it all available to stream live – what an incredible experience for fans who can't make it to Florida 🌴. And, I mean, think about all the history being preserved here – the ship has carried some pretty legendary people over the years 👑. Plus, turning it into an artificial reef is a genius way to give new life to an old girl 💖. Can't wait to see how this all goes down 🎥!

omg did u no they're gonna sink the ss united states as an artificial reef?? 🤯 its like, so sad but also kinda cool that we get 2 c it go down live via drones & underwater cams 📹🌊 idk how many ppl r actually excited about this tho... seems pretty tragic 4 the ship itself, esp since its got such a rich history 🚢💔

this is gonna be wild! 🤯 i'm so stoked they're livesteaming this on drones and under the sea, it's like something out of a movie! can't believe the ss united states, which has such an epic history, is being sunk as an artificial reef 🌊. $11 million into preserving its legacy is definitely worth it - those smokestacks are iconic 🔥. fans who couldn't make it to florida will get to experience this historic event from anywhere in the world... can't wait for the livestream! 📺

just saw that the ss united states is gonna sink off the coast of florida and it's being streamed live 🚢😱 like, who needs art or nature when you can just have a ship sink in front of your eyes? also $10 million to clean and sink the thing? that's some wild waste money if u ask me 💸🌊

I'm not sure what to make of this whole thing 🤔. On one hand, I think it's pretty cool that they're going to let people stream the ship sinking live. I mean, who needs a fancy concert or sports event when you can watch something historic go up in flames... er, sink? It's like a real-life game of "Titanic"! 😂 But at the same time, it's hard not to feel a little sad about the old girl meeting her end. I've always been fascinated by those classic ocean liners – they're just so nostalgic and iconic.

I guess what really gets me is that this ship has such a rich history 🤠. Can you imagine all the famous people who've set foot on board? It's like they're going to get a sort of "virtual" sendoff, which is both cool and kinda weird at the same time... I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old 😅.

🤔 It's fascinating to think about how our perceptions of historical vessels like the SS United States have evolved over time. What was once considered a symbol of luxury and innovation now finds itself being repurposed as an artificial reef, a testament to human ingenuity in the face of obsolescence 🌊. The use of drones and underwater cameras to capture this event will undoubtedly provide viewers with a unique and immersive experience, allowing them to connect with the ship on a more intimate level 💡. It's also interesting to consider how the SS United States's legacy will continue to be celebrated through the museum, which will serve as a poignant reminder of its storied past 🎨.

Ugh 🤔, this is just great. Some rich guy buys an old ship for like $1 million and now we're gonna pay $10 million to sink the thing. What's next? Sinking a bunch of old cars in the ocean to "create artificial reefs"? 🚗💦 It's all about lining those pockets, you know? And don't even get me started on these drones and cameras... just a bunch of people trying to make a quick buck off the naivety of others. 😒 I mean, who actually gets excited about watching an old ship sink? 🤷‍♂️ The only good thing is that it's gonna be all live-streamed so we can all witness the spectacle together... because that's what this world needs more of: voyeuristic entertainment. 👀

🤔 I mean, seriously, who thought it was a good idea to livestream a ship sinking? Like, what's next, streaming a car crash or something? 🚗💥 And don't even get me started on the fact that they're calling it an "intimate experience". Have you ever been to a shipwreck and felt all cozy and connected to the vessel? 😂 It's just gonna be a bunch of underwater cameras showing some metal sinking to the bottom. 📹💔 Plus, have we learned nothing from the Titanic? 🚢💀 I mean, come on, folks, let's not glorify shipwrecks here...

🤔 This whole thing is just another example of how our government (or I guess, the county of Okaloosa now) is wasting tax payer money 🤑 on some nostalgic event 🎉. I mean, who's gonna miss this old ship? It was already 30 years since it stopped sailing, and now we're gonna pay $11 million to sink it 🌊. What about all the jobs that could've been created with that kind of cash instead? 🤷‍♂️ Still, I guess it's a nice way to make history live again 📺, but is it really worth the cost? 🤑

omg, this is gonna be so wild! sinking a ship with drones and cams is like something outta a sci-fi movie lol. 30 yrs is a long time, i'm curious to see what the condition of the ship is now 🤔. think its kinda cool that they're making it into an artificial reef tho, at least it'll provide some habitat for marine life. wonder if its true that the presidents & celebs had some wild parties on this thing 🎉👀. cant wait to watch it go live and see what all the fuss is about 💥

omg can you believe this 🤯 its crazy how they're gonna make it go down with cameras everywhere! i remember when the titanic went down in 1912, it was just a tragic accident, but now its like a whole event 📺. and can u even imagine being on that ship back in the day? walt disney and john wayne were on it!! 😮 its wild how much history that thing has seen. i think its cool they're making it into an artificial reef too, so some fishies will have a new home 🐠🌊. but also kinda sad that its ending like this... anyway, cant wait to watch it live with my popcorn in hand 🍿

OMG, can't believe this is finally happening 🚢📺! I mean, think about it, we're gonna get to see the SS United States sink for real on live stream, with drones and underwater cams 🤯 It's like something out of a movie! And the fact that it's gonna be captured live makes it even more epic 🎥 Plus, I love that they're gonna make it into an artificial reef, so it can still have a purpose after it sinks 💚 I know some people might be sad to see it go, but I think it's cool that we get to experience its final journey in such a unique way 📺👏

man this is crazy! 🤯 the ss united states has been sitting there for years just collecting dust and taking up space, but now it's finally gonna get the sendoff it deserves 🙏 and who doesn't wanna see a piece of history go down 🌊? i mean, can you even imagine what it was like back in the day when that ship was chugging along, carrying all those famous folks? 🚣‍♀️ it's wild to think about how much it's gonna be revealed about its final moments by the drones and underwater cameras... i'm def keeping an eye out for when it goes live 📺 hope it does happen before the year ends! 🎉

Man I'm so stoked about this livestream thingy... 🤩 I mean, who wouldn't wanna see an old ship go down? It's like the ultimate underwater art installation or something! But what's really cool is that it's gonna be all live and stuff, with drones and cameras capturing every minute of it. It's like we're right there with the ship as it meets its maker. And can you imagine the history buffs just geeking out over this? I mean, this thing has been to space (literally!) and carried some pretty big names. It's gonna be a wild ride, for sure! 🚢💥

omg can u believe its gonna be livestreamed?? 🤯 like we get to see this historic ship go down before our eyes... thats so cool! but isnt the ocean really sad about sinking ships lol? how does that work with the artifisial reef thingy... will fish and stuff start living on it soon after?? and how do they make sure its safe for marine life to swim around? 🐠💦
