Small businesses still reeling from Chicago-area immigration blitz: 'It almost destroyed us'

This is heartbreaking 🤕... I mean, these people are already struggling to make ends meet and then you add in the fear of immigration raids? It's like a double whammy 💥. These business owners have nothing to gain from deportation campaigns, they just want to run their businesses and provide for their families. And now with the new Border Patrol cmdr. not being there anymore, it's like they're holding their breath waiting for something to change ⏰... I hope these local initiatives can make a difference 🙏, but honestly, it feels like a Band-Aid on a bullet wound 🤕. What about long-term solutions?

🤯 I mean, can you even imagine how tough it must be for these small business owners who are literally living and breathing their neighborhoods? Like, their livelihoods depend on people coming in from their communities, but now those communities are scared to come in because of all the drama with ICE. It's like, they're not just losing customers, they're losing a part of themselves. I'm low-key freaking out thinking about it... the $50k donation from Hangry and whatever stipends for families is sweet, but it's not gonna cut it. We need real change here! 🤗 What even is the point of having local businesses if nobody can trust their neighbors to be here? 😩

I'm still trying to fathom how some restaurants in Chicago are doing alright despite all this drama... I mean, some of them are even getting more customers from people who aren't from around here? 🤔 That's wild! Meanwhile, others are being forced to lay off staff because people are too scared to come out and shop. Like, what can you do when the whole community is feeling uneasy about ICE agents showing up at their doorstep? 💸 It's not all about the deportations, it's about the fear that comes with it. And businesses are getting hit hard... I wonder if they'll be able to recover from this. 🤞

this is so sad what's happening in chicago 🤕 businesses are struggling because of immigration raids and it's not just about the money, its about the community feel too 🌎 these neighborhoods were built by immigrants who came here for a better life and now they're being pushed away again 💔 businesses like el mercadito and pozoleria el mexicano need our support they can't keep running on empty staff hours and reduced sales are not sustainable for everyone ⏰ what's needed is policy change that protects these communities and supports local business owners 💡 maybe a federal program to help with the economic impact of immigration raids would be a good start 📈

man this is crazy how much these immigration raids are affecting latino neighborhoods in chicago i mean yeah theyre trying to support local businesses with donations and whatnot but its not like it fixes anything really those business owners must be freaking out thinking about their livelihoods and families just because some border patrol agents decided to swoop in and scare people off...and now we got restaurants shutting down and layoffs happening left and right. its sad that ppl have to live in fear all the time 🤕
