South Carolina Measles Outbreak Becomes America's Largest in 25 Years

The US is witnessing its largest measles outbreak in 25 years, with South Carolina at the epicenter. According to the latest data from the state's Department of Public Health, there have been a staggering 89 new cases confirmed since Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the Upstate region to an alarming 789.

This has surpassed the Texas outbreak last year, which saw 762 cases before it ended in August 2025. The situation is dire nationwide as well, with the US reporting 478 cases so far this year - a far cry from the 283 cases in 2024 and just 63 cases in 2023.

Spartanburg County has been particularly hard hit, accounting for most of the measles cases in South Carolina. The rapid spread of the disease is attributed to declining vaccination rates in the US, fueled by anti-vaccine activism and misinformation. This includes none other than Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently took over as head of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Under his leadership, pro-vaccine advocates have been appointed to prominent roles at the CDC, pushing for a reevaluation of the polio vaccine's necessity. The impact is already being felt in South Carolina, where only 20 out of the 789 cases are among those who are fully vaccinated. In fact, most of the cases - 692 - are unvaccinated.

The measles outbreak has also had a disproportionate impact on young children, with 203 cases identified in those under 5 years old and another 493 cases in kids aged 5-17. The situation is being closely monitored as schools are reporting students in quarantine, including dozens at Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary and Campobello Gramling School.

The spread of the disease is now spreading beyond South Carolina to other states, including Florida, California, Wisconsin, and several others. With this latest outbreak, it's clear that the US has seen a significant resurgence of measles cases - and it's all because vaccination rates are plummeting.

As concerns grow over the rapid spread of the disease, many are left wondering: what's behind this alarming trend? Is it anti-vaccine propaganda, lack of access to healthcare, or something else entirely? Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: the US needs to take action to curb this outbreak before it spreads any further.

I'm getting a bad vibe from all this 🤕... Measles outbreaks are like a ticking time bomb, just waiting to happen. The whole thing with Robert F. Kennedy Jr being in charge of health is super concerning - I mean, the guy's got some legit credentials but this pro-vaccine push is a bit much. And what's up with these anti-vax folks spreading misinformation online? 📊 It's like they're trying to create a measles apocalypse 🤯. Anyway, we gotta get our priorities straight and make sure everyone's protected - shots need to be mandatory again ASAP! 💉

🤕💉 I'm getting worried about the measles outbreak in the US. It's crazy that we're seeing more cases now than 25 years ago! I think it's a huge problem because our society is so polarized, and misinformation is spreading like wildfire online. We need to stop relying on influencers and celebrities who don't know what they're talking about (looking at you, RFK Jr 😉). Vaccines are the only way to keep us safe from diseases like measles. The CDC should be doing more to educate people about the importance of vaccination, not less! 🤦‍♀️ We need a coordinated effort to get everyone vaccinated and stop this outbreak before it's too late!

Ugh, this just makes me wanna go back to when vaccines were a no-brainer 🤕. Remember when we used to get vaccinated and then be immune for life? Nowadays, it's like people think they're invincible 💉. I swear, the more I hear about anti-vaxxers, the more I want to grab my old mom's vaccine records from back in '95 and just give them a dose of reality 😂. This whole thing is crazy – 789 cases in one region? It's like we're back to the dark ages 🤢. The CDC needs to get its act together ASAP, and people need to listen to the science before they start spreading misinformation 📰. I mean, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.? Really? What's next, getting advice from Jenny McCarthy on health? 😒

Wow 🤯 this measles outbreak is getting out of control in South Carolina! 789 cases are a huge number and it's crazy that most of them are unvaccinated. The fact that only 20% of those infected are fully vaccinated is alarming 🚨. What's going on with Robert F Kennedy Jr taking over the Department of Health? That guy's been spreading misinformation about vaccines for years. And now schools are reporting students in quarantine... this outbreak needs to be stopped ASAP! 💉

🤕 The escalating measles crisis in the US is a stark reminder that vaccination rates are becoming an increasingly pressing public health concern 🚨. With 478 cases reported nationwide this year, it's alarming that our collective vaccination rate has taken a drastic downturn 📉. The recent appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as head of the Department of Health and Human Services is particularly troubling, as his anti-vaccine advocacy has sowed doubt about the safety and efficacy of vaccines 🤔.

As schools struggle to contain outbreaks, it's essential that we prioritize education about the importance of vaccination in preventing infectious disease transmission 📚. We need to address the misinformation fueling anti-vaccination sentiment and work towards promoting a culture of immunization 🌟. The US has a responsibility to protect its citizens from preventable diseases – now is the time to take collective action 💪.
