Southern California officer saves 7‑month‑old girl who was choking on hair clip

Local Police Officer's Quick Thinking Saves Choking Infant in Orange County

A harrowing incident took place in Orange County last January when a frantic mother frantically called 911 to report that her seven-month-old baby was choking on a hair clip. Upon arrival, police officer Corporal Greggory Cates sprang into action. The situation was intense as the distraught mother ran out of the house with the infant in her arms, shouting for help.

When Cates took over, he swiftly performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the object from the baby's airway. Moments later, the tiny infant let out a relieved sigh as she began breathing again, sparking an overwhelming sense of gratitude from the officer.

The dramatic scene was captured on Cates' bodycam video, and it has since been hailed as a heroic act that saved an innocent life. The officer, who is also a parent himself, echoed his appreciation for being able to help someone in such a critical situation. He attributed the mother's quick thinking in getting him to the infant's side when she needed assistance.

The City of Orange recently honored Cates' bravery by awarding him the Life Saving Medal during a city council meeting. Reunited with the family, including the baby, who has since made a full recovery, the officer expressed his gratitude for the recognition but made it clear that this was not about personal accolades.

"It's very nice to be recognized," Cates said, "but at the same time, it's not something that we're looking for. We were just there to try and help people."

🤔 The heroism of Corporal Greggory Cates is more than just a heroic act – it's a reflection of our interconnectedness. I mean, think about it... a frantic mother, an officer on the scene, and a child in distress – all playing their part in a delicate dance of humanity. It's not just about the physical act of saving a life, but also about the emotional labor that goes into it. The mother's quick thinking, the officer's swift action, and the child's fragile recovery all highlight our collective responsibility to look out for one another. 🌟 What does this tell us about our society? That we're not just isolated individuals, but part of a larger web of relationships that can either support or hinder each other's well-being. 💖

aww 😊👶 that's such a heroic act by Corporal Greggory Cates! i'm so glad he was able to save that little one's life... it's moments like those where you can't even begin to express how grateful & thankful u should feel. and yaaas, the mom's quick thinking in getting him to the baby's side when she needed help is definitely worth mentioning too! 🙌🏼💕 i'm sure it was a super stressful situation for everyone involved, but Cates handled it like a pro ❤️. glad to hear the little one made a full recovery and got to reunite with the family 👫

🙌 OMG, can you believe that cop saved a tiny human from choking on a hair clip?! 🤯 I mean, I know he's a hero and all, but come on, seven months old! That little one is basically still in diapers 😂. I'm so glad the officer was there to help and that everything turned out okay for that family. It's just crazy how quickly things can go from bad to good when you have people like him who are willing to jump into action 🚑💖.

I don’t usually comment but... I mean, can you even imagine being in that situation? 🤯 The fact that the mom was able to get the baby to the officer so quickly is just amazing, right? 🙌 It’s not like she was panicking or anything, she just managed to stay calm and get help to her child. And then Cates just springs into action – I don’t think most people could do what he did in those split seconds ⏱️. The mom saying it wasn't about the medal at all is really sweet too, like, someone’s gotta be humble 🙃.

Man I'm totally impressed with Corporal Greggory Cates 🤯, he's literally a hero 1️⃣! Saving an innocent life like that is the most selfless thing you can do. And you know what's even cooler? He's just another cop doing his job, he didn't expect any recognition or anything 🙏. I think it's great that the City of Orange honored him with the Life Saving Medal, but at the end of the day, it's not about Cates, it's about the baby and her mom, who are both super grateful to be alive 💕.

Ugh, have you seen the article about that cop who saved a baby? 🤯 I mean, great job on the whole saving-life thing, but can we please talk about the forum for a second? I was trying to share some thoughts on the latest gaming news and my post got stuck in moderation 😩. Like, what's going on with our site's moderation team? Can't they just leave it up or let me know why it's getting flagged instead of making me rewrite the whole thing? 🤔

And don't even get me started on how long it took for someone to actually respond to my thread. I'm starting to think that some people are more interested in watching cat videos than engaging with real discussions 😴.

Back to the cop, though... I guess it's nice to see someone getting recognized for their heroism, but can we keep the focus on the forum, please? 🤷‍♀️

OMG 🤯 just saw the video of Corp Greggory Cates savin' that little baby's life in Orange County! 😍 like who else is gonna jump into action when they see a mom frantically callin 911? 👮‍♂️ He's literally a hero, but you know what's even more impressive? The mom was thinkin on her feet and got him to the baby right away 💪. I'm glad he got the Life Saving Medal tho 🏆 it's always nice to see ppl gettin recognition for doin good things! 👍

Man, what a crazy situation! 🤯 I'm glad that cop was able to act fast and save that little one's life, but can you imagine being in that mom's shoes? 😱 I mean, it's already stressful enough when your kid is choking on something, but then the police officer has to take over because she's freaking out... talk about a high-pressure situation! 💨

And wow, the bodycam video of the whole thing is wild 📹. It's like you can almost feel the intensity and panic in that moment. I'm just glad everything worked out okay for the baby in the end. Full recovery and all that good stuff 🙏.

It's actually kinda nice to see the officer being humble about it, though 🙃. I mean, yeah, he deserves some recognition, but at the same time, you can tell he's not about seeking personal glory or anything like that. It's just a good reminder that sometimes you gotta step up and help others in those split-second moments ⏱️.

🚨💦 I mean, can you even imagine being in that situation? Like, the mom's freaking out, the baby's choking, and then this cop springs into action... it's insane how quick-thinking he was! 👮‍♂️ The Heimlich maneuver is no joke, and for him to perform it so flawlessly like that is just amazing. 😲 And I love how humble he is about it too - "it's not something we're looking for"... yeah, you did something incredible, dude! 🙌
