FuboTV, a popular live TV streaming service, has made a surprise move by slashing prices for some of its subscription plans. The move comes as the company is facing a black-out of NBCUniversal channels, which are missing from Fubo's lineup since November.
The new prices will be in effect starting with billing cycles on or after January 1, 2026, and include a discount of up to 14.8% for certain plans. The Essential plan, previously priced at $85 per month, will now cost $74, while the Pro plan, which was previously $85, will be reduced to $75. The Elite plan, which used to be $95, will now be available for $84.
Fubo's decision to lower prices is seen as a strategic move aimed at retaining subscribers and gaining an edge over larger streaming services like YouTube TV and Amazon Prime Video. The company has been facing criticism from its customers, who have complained about price hikes and the loss of NBCUniversal channels.
According to Fubo, the new prices reflect the cost of NBCUniversal's networks being removed from its lineup. The company has accused NBCUniversal of using bundling tactics to force it to add expensive non-sports channels to its cheaper plans.
Fubo is also seeking permission from NBCUniversal to integrate Peacock into its channel store, which would allow subscribers to access additional content at no extra cost. However, NBCUniversal has denied Fubo's request, stating that they offered the same terms agreed upon by other distributors.
The move may be a tactic for Fubo to pressure NBCUniversal into agreeing to a deal rather than letting the partnership dissolve. Alternatively, it could be a sign that Fubo is willing to compromise on its partnerships in order to offer lower prices and stay competitive in the market.
