Street Beet, a popular plant-based pop-up, has finally put down roots in Detroit's Corktown. The beloved vegan eatery, known for its creative takes on classic American comfort food, is now open in its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 1800 Michigan Ave, formerly home to Bobcat Bonnie's.
The grand opening celebration kicks off on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 4-11 p.m., and promises a fun-filled night of good food, drinks, and arcade games. The venue will offer a full-service bar, milkshakes, malts, and alcohol-free mocktails to complement the menu.
Inside, guests can dine for full service or pick up carryout from a walk-up window. But what really sets Street Beet apart is its partnership with Offworld Arcade, which brings classic arcade and pinball games to the space. For a small additional fee, visitors can indulge in retro gaming fun while enjoying their meals.
Street Beet's menu boasts an impressive array of plant-based options, including meatless coney dogs, smashburgers, chicken sandwiches, and nachos. The restaurant plans to introduce a brunch menu, coffee counter with vegan pastries, and patio seating in the coming months, further solidifying its commitment to the community.
"We've dreamed of this space for years," says founder Meghan Shaw. "Bringing Street Beet home to Corktown feels unreal – this is our biggest leap yet, and we can't wait to feed everyone again."
This new location marks a significant milestone for Street Beet, which launched in 2018 serving vegan takes on popular fast food. Since then, it has operated pop-up events and held residency at Midtown's Third Street Bar before expanding into suburban locations.
With the support of a hedge fund partner, Street Beet aims to become a household name, reaching people from all backgrounds and neighborhoods. As the restaurant continues to grow, one thing is clear: Corktown will never be the same.
