Teenager Flagg breaks 46-year NBA points record but Hornets beat Mavericks

Teenager Cooper Flagg Breaks 46-Year Record, But Hornets Take Down Mavericks

In an electrifying game that saw a teenage phenom break multiple records, the Charlotte Hornets edged out the Dallas Mavericks 123-121. The 19-year-old Flagg scored an impressive 49 points, becoming the youngest player to hit this milestone in NBA history. However, his outstanding individual performance couldn't overcome the Hornets' team effort.

Flagg set a new record for most points by a teenager in a single game, surpassing Cliff Robinson's previous mark of 45, achieved when he was just 19 years old back in 1980. The young sensation also showcased impressive defensive skills, snagging 10 rebounds to complement his explosive offense.

Despite Flagg's incredible showing, the Hornets were led by veteran center Kon Knueppel, who poured in a career-high 34 points. Knueppel grabbed an errant pass with just seven seconds left and sank two free throws to seal the win for Charlotte.

The Mavericks' loss snapped their three-game winning streak, while the Hornets extended their own winning ways with five consecutive victories – their longest since a five-game run in February 2023.

Brandon Miller chipped in with 23 points, including his ninth straight game of scoring at least 20 points. LaMelo added 22 points, hitting six threes from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, Klay Thompson scored 16 points off the bench for Dallas, shooting just 4-11 from three-point range. The Mavericks have now lost three consecutive games – all played at home – following a season-best four-game winning streak.

The thrilling matchup marked the first NBA meeting between Flagg and Knueppel, two highly touted freshmen from Duke University. Mark Aguirre, the only previous first-overall draft pick in Dallas's history, had his jersey retired during a halftime ceremony.

🤔 Omg did u see dat game? like Cooper Flagg is literally a BEAST 🐯! 49 points at 19? that's insane. and can we talk about Kon Knueppel too? he came up HUGE in the 4th quarter, clutch player for sure. i love how both teams brought their A-game, Hornets' defense was on point 💪. what a game to watch. btw i'm curious, have u seen any other record-breakers like Flagg before? 🤓

🤩 oh man what can you even say about this kid Cooper Flagg? 49 points at 19? that's just wild 🌪️ I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. and the way he played was insane, like he was unstoppable out there 💥 but at the same time, it's kinda sad that it had to come down to a game-winning free throw... like what even is the point of playing in the NBA if it's gonna be decided by one guy making some shots? 🤔

omg what's up with these teens taking over the league i mean i feel like cooper flagg is just so young and talented but still he had to break all those records lol did you see that mavericks game they were playing so good in february last year but now they're losing streaks 🤯 anyway congrats to cooper for setting that record though 46 years old is crazy!

omg yaaas Cooper Flagg is literally a genius on the court 😂! 49 points at 19 years old? that's insane!!! i was on the edge of my seat watching that game 🤯 and Kon Knueppel's free throws with just seconds to go were so clutch 💪. the mavericks are having a rough patch but i'm sure they'll bounce back soon 💪💕 can't wait for Flagg's next game, he's gonna break more records 💥

man this young cooper flagg is like a superhero on the court 💥🔥 i mean 49 points as a teenager breaking all those records and still got 10 rebounds to back it up? that's wild! but you gotta give props to kon knueppel too, he came up huge in the clutch with that free throw shot 🤯 and it's crazy how much depth these hornets have, lamelo popping threes left and right 🚀 but what i really love is seeing young players like flagg and knueppel make history together, they're gonna be legends one day 😎

I'm not sold on all this fuss about Cooper Flagg, don't get me wrong he's a talented kid and all 😐. 49 points in one game is crazy, but I mean it's just basketball, right? 🏀 Can someone explain to me how some team can win by 2 points when they're outscoring the other by 12? 🤔 And don't even get me started on the refs, I could swear they had it in the bag for Dallas from the start 🙄.

omg can u believe this young gun Cooper Flagg is literally breaking records left and right 🤯😲 he's got skills for days on offense but defense? 🤔 10 rebounds ain't bad for a rookie! I'm low-key salty the Hornets won tho, would've loved to see Mavericks take it down. still though, big up to Flagg for that incredible performance 💥
