The Extended 'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy Comes Back to Theaters

'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy Returns to Theaters with Extended Editions for a 25th Anniversary Celebration

The Fellowship of the Ring, which turned 25 last year, is set to celebrate its milestone birthday in style. In 2026, fans will have the chance to revisit the epic trilogy, including its two sequels, extended editions on the big screen. Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are teaming up to put The Lord of the Rings Trilogy back on the cinematic map for a limited time.

For two weekends next month, each installment – Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King – will receive DBOX showings on the first weekend, with the extended versions getting dedicated two-day slots. On January 16-23, fans can catch Fellowship at AMC theaters, where they'll also receive a limited-edition collectible Map Tin and a Quest Magnet Set. Regal attendees, meanwhile, will get exclusive merchandise to take home.

For those watching The Two Towers on January 17-24, it won't be the only showtime – and for good reason: The Lord of the Rings trilogy is getting extended editions with hours-long viewing sessions that fans have grown accustomed to over the years. Whether you grew up with these films or are new to Middle-earth, this will be a chance to revisit three of modern Hollywood's biggest blockbusters.

Of course, the 25th anniversary marks more than just nostalgia – it also hints at what Warner Bros. and Netflix might do next in the world of The Lord of the Rings. Gollum, anyone? For now, though, fans are invited to indulge in a cinematic celebration that promises to be an unforgettable return to Middle-earth.

OH MY GOSH, I AM SO STOKED FOR THIS!!! 🎥🔥 25 years ago we fell in love with Frodo and the Fellowship, and now they're bringing back the extended editions on the big screen?!?! it's like a dream come true for all us Lord of the Rings fans out there! i'm totally getting those limited-edition collectibles too - who doesn't want a map tin and a quest magnet set?!?! this is going to be such an epic celebration, can't wait to see Gollum in action again!!! 🤪

🎥 I'm super stoked about this - extended editions of LOTR trilogy? That's gonna be so cool! 🤩 I remember watching these films as a kid and just being blown away by the world-building and characters. It's amazing how they've managed to keep Middle-earth alive all these years. I'm definitely buying tickets for each showtime, can't wait to see the extended versions on the big screen again! 😍

omg 25 years already?! i remember watching LOTR as a kid and being HOOKED from the start 😂 i still have my old VHS tape of Fellowship somewhere 📼 what's with the extended editions tho? like, how much extra content can you possibly fit in there?! 🤔 i'm so down for another cinematic experience though - got my tickets already 👍

🤔 I'm surprised they're actually doing extended editions for each film. I mean, it's about time someone did something about the pacing issues with The Two Towers, tbh. I know some fans love the "extended" experience, but I think it's just an excuse to pad out the runtime. And don't even get me started on Gollum – he's always been a weird choice for a potential spin-off. Can you imagine? 🎥 But hey, at least they're getting some cool merch, right? A limited-edition collectible Map Tin and Quest Magnet Set sounds like a nice touch. Not sure about the DBOX showings though... isn't that just a fancy way of saying "overpriced 3D?" 😏

I've been thinking about how we consume and experience stories... like, we're basically re-living the same ones over and over 🤯. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is just one example – I mean, 25 years is a pretty significant chunk of time for something to still be so popular. Is it nostalgia or do we genuinely appreciate these stories because they tap into some deeper part of ourselves? And what does that say about our relationship with entertainment in general? Are we seeking comfort and escapism, or are we really getting something more out of it? 🤔

OMG, I'm literally stoked for this!! 25th anniversary and they're bringing back the trilogy on the big screen with extended editions?! 🎥🔥 Can't wait to relive the magic of Middle-earth on the cinema screen again! The extra hours-long viewing sessions are gonna be epic! 💥 I've already got my tickets booked for Fellowship and can't wait to get that limited-edition collectible Map Tin 🤑 What a way to celebrate, right?!
