The Only Living Pickpocket in New York review – John Turturro steals this simple, charming tale

In a city that never sleeps, where old-school charm still lingers in every corner, comes a tale of a dying breed - the pickpocket. John Turturro shines as Harry, a man who prides himself on the old ways, even as he navigates the complexities of modern life.

At 68, Turturro's got it down pat, exuding a cool, nonchalant air that's hard to shake. His character's a throwback to the 70s-era crime thrillers, and Segan's script - penned by this frequent Rian Johnson collaborator - is a love letter to a bygone era.

With its brisk pace and nostalgia-tinged atmosphere, The Only Living Pickpocket in New York feels like a long-lost cousin of yesteryear. Turturro and co-star Steve Buscemi have undeniable chemistry as Harry's old pal Ben, and newcomer Will Price steals every scene he's in as the spoiled kid with a penchant for trouble.

But what truly sets this film apart is its heart - and its performances. Tatiana Maslany shines in a supporting role that's equal parts heartbreaking and infuriating, bringing decades of anger to one scene-stealing moment. It's a testament to her talent that she can make even the most contrived moments work.

The only misstep comes when Segan tries too hard to be clever, with some explanations feeling like they're more contrivance than clever plot twists. Still, his script is largely effective, and the film's bittersweet ending will stick with you long after the credits roll.

In a city that's always on the move, The Only Living Pickpocket in New York feels like a breath of fresh air - a reminder that sometimes it's okay to slow down and appreciate the little things. With Turturro at its center, this charming tale is one not to be missed.

just watched this film and i gotta say, steve buscemi looks hella old 🤣 68 years young though! anyone else think turturro's got a certain old-school movie star vibe going on?

i'm loving the chemistry between turturro & buscemi, they're like two peas in a pod 👫 and will price's character is just so juicy 💁‍♀️. tatiana maslany's performance though... 🤯 i didn't see that scene coming at all! what did everyone think of the ending? felt pretty bittersweet to me 😔

I loved how this film balances nostalgia with modern life 🎥💨. It's refreshing to see an older man still holding on to his roots (and I'm talking about Harry's pickpocketing skills 🤑). The chemistry between Turturro and Buscemi is undeniable, and the script does a great job of bringing out their characters' quirks.

The supporting cast is also top-notch, especially Maslany – she brings so much depth to her role that it's hard not to get invested in her character's story 🤯. What I appreciate most about this film is its heart; it's a reminder to slow down and appreciate the little things in life, which is something we're always missing out on with our fast-paced lifestyle 💨.

I also love how the film doesn't shy away from exploring Harry's vulnerabilities – he's not just a charming old pickpocket, but a complex person with his own set of problems 🤗. Overall, it's a delightful film that will stick with you long after the credits roll 😊.

I'm loving the vibes of this new flick! 🎥 John Turturro is, like, totally iconic as Harry - he's got that cool factor on lockdown 💁‍♂️. And I'm all about Steve Buscemi's dry wit, he's always been a fave of mine 😏. But what really has me hooked is Tatiana Maslany's performance - she's always been incredible, but this one's something special 🤩. The film's got that nostalgic feel that makes you wanna grab your fedora and hit the streets of NYC in the 70s 🕺. Not perfect, but it's a charmer that'll stick with you long after it's over 👍.

Wow! 😎 I loved how the film pays homage to the classic crime thrillers of yesteryear while still feeling fresh & relevant today 🙌 It's amazing to see John Turturro shine as Harry - his cool vibes are infectious 💨 And that supporting cast is top notch, especially Tatiana Maslany who always brings so much depth to her roles 🤩 Will Price's scenes stole the show for me too 😍

I gotta say, I'm really loving this old-school vibe they're going for with this movie 🎬! John Turturro as a pickpocket in NYC sounds like something out of a classic film noir - but the way it's been updated is super refreshing. I love how the script has that nostalgic feel without being too on-the-nose about it, and Steve Buscemi and Will Price are awesome as the supporting cast 🤩! The only thing that threw me off was one scene where they tried to explain something a bit too much - but overall, the film's got heart and is really worth watching 👍.

I just watched this old-school crime thriller and I'm loving it 🎥👍 The way John Turturro brings that 70s vibe back to life is pure magic ✨ And can we talk about the chemistry between Turturro and Steve Buscemi? they're like two peas in a pod 👫 They remind me of those old detective movies from the 80s, but with a modern twist 🔄 What I love most about this film is its heart - it's not just about the crime, it's about the characters and their relationships 💕 And that supporting cast? Tatiana Maslany is on fire 🔥 She always brings depth to her roles and this one doesn't disappoint 🙌

just saw this film and i gotta say, its so refreshingly old-school 😎. john turturro shines as usual, got that perfect blend of charisma & coolness that makes you wanna watch him all day. the supporting cast does great too, esp tatiana maslany, she's incredible in every scene 🤩. but yeah, i felt like segan tried a bit too hard to be clever at times, some plot explanations felt forced 🤔. still, its a lovely film that'll stick with you, kinda like a breath of fresh air in the city 🌆

I JUST LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK IS SUCH A CHARMING FILM THAT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL ALL THE EMOTIONS!!! I MEAN, JOHN TURTURRO AS HARRY IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT - HE'S LIKE A TIME TRAVELER FROM THE 70S WHO JUST WALKED INTO OUR PRESENT DAY AND WE'RE ALL JUST ALONG FOR THE RIDE 🎥👏! AND STEVE BUSCEMI AS BEN IS SUCH A GREAT SUPPORTING ACTOR, I COULDN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF HIM! TATIANA MASLANY IS ALSO ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, HER PERFORMANCE WAS SO HEARTBREAKING AT TIMES!!! THE ONLY THING THAT BOTHERED ME WAS WHEN THE SCRIPT TRIED TO BE TOO CLEVER AND IT FELL FLAT 🤔👎 BUT OVERALL, THIS FILM IS A MUST SEE, IT'S LIKE A BIG OL' HUG FOR YOUR SOUL ❤️

I'm loving the nostalgic vibes of this film 🎥🕵️‍♂️. The chemistry between Turturro and Buscemi is undeniable, and Maslany's performance had me feeling all the feels 😭. Still, it'd be nice if Segan's script didn't try too hard to be clever – some plot twists felt a bit forced 🙅‍♂️. Overall, though, this film is a breath of fresh air in a city that never sleeps 💨.
