Timothy Busfield sexual misconduct allegations mount as wife Melissa Gilbert expresses support

Actor Timothy Busfield's wife Melissa Gilbert has expressed support for him as he faces mounting allegations of prior sexual misconduct and a recent on-set child abuse charge in New Mexico.

Gilbert, who is best known for her role on Little House on the Prairie, shared a statement through her representative stating that she "supports her husband" during this challenging time but emphasized the need for privacy and space. Her focus appears to be centered on caring for their family as they navigate these allegations.

Busfield, 68, has been held without bond in connection with one count of child abuse following his arrest on January 9th on two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one charge of child abuse. Prosecutors have requested that he remain in custody until his trial, although it is possible that he may be conditionally released on bond.

Allegations against Busfield include incidents involving the alleged touching of two 11-year-old twin brothers, identified as SL and VL, who claim to have been inappropriately touched by the actor during filming. In a statement provided to TMZ, Busfield denied all allegations, stating that they were "all lies" and that he would fight them.

However, police in Albuquerque cited a pattern of alleged sexual misconduct on Busfield's work record. Court documents mentioned two other allegations against him, including an incident in 1994 where a 17-year-old extra claimed to have been assaulted by the actor after being served alcohol. In another incident in 2012, a woman alleged that Busfield had fondled her at a Los Angeles movie theater.

Busfield's acting career has spanned several notable projects, including Revenge of the Nerds, Field of Dreams, The West Wing, and Thirtysomething. His performance on Thirtysomething earned him an Emmy in 1991 for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.

Gilbert, who is 61 and married to Busfield since 2013, has largely taken a step back from the public eye, deactivating her Instagram account and canceling a virtual question-and-answer session for her lifestyle brand. However, she received support from fellow actor Glenn Scarpelli on social media, with him expressing love and admiration for his friend Melissa Gilbert.

ugh this is so messed up 🤯 my heart goes out to those two twin boys who are going through this trauma... i feel like timothy busfield's career is over and that's a shame because he did have some great roles 🎬 but what really gets me is melissa gilbert stepping in and supporting him despite all these allegations... it just feels like she's trying to protect her husband's reputation rather than focusing on the boys who are suffering 🤕 i wish glenn scarpelli would've kept his comments more lowkey tho 🙅‍♂️

man this is such a tough situation... I'm trying to wrap my head around it 🤯 like how can someone's career be built on the foundation of trust and respect, but then allegations come out that completely destroy that? it's like a mirror held up to humanity, showing us that even in the most seemingly perfect relationships, dark secrets can lurk beneath the surface

and what about the victims, SL and VL? their voices should be heard, not just reduced to accusations by someone who denies everything... I guess it's hard to know what to believe when there are two sides to every story, but at least they're speaking out now, right?

I'm also wondering, how can we hold people accountable without being too quick to judge? is it about the alleged actions or is it about the accused person's character? do we need to differentiate between the two?

anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that this whole situation is a complex web of emotions and moral dilemmas... my mind is spinning just thinking about it 😕

Ugh, what's next? A serial abuser walks into the light because of their spouse's good looks 🙄. I mean, I get it, people are gonna support each other and all that, but come on... a 68-year-old dude gets accused of child abuse and 'all lies'? Give me a break! 💔 He's had multiple allegations, some dating back to the 90s, and now he's just denying them like they're not even real. Meanwhile, his wife is out there trying to save face and maintain their family life... I feel bad for her, tbh 😔. But honestly, how much more evidence does she need before she cuts ties? 🔒

omg like what's going down w/ Timothy Busfield?? he's got some major allegations against him & I feel bad 4 his wife Melissa who's tryna navigate this whole situation without being too much in the spotlight lol she's all about keepin it private & focusin on their fam, which is def understandable tbh

I mean, the allegations r pretty serious - child abuse, sexual misconduct... it's like, super disturbing 🤯 Busfield's denyin all of it but I guess that's not gonna cut it in court or whatever. The fact that there's a pattern of behavior & police got a work record showin' it is just wild

I'm still tryna process how this whole thing went down w/ the 11-year-old twin brothers... like, what kinda touching were we talkin' about here? 🤔 and then there's the other allegations from years ago... it's just so sad that Busfield got in trouble again 🤕

anywayz, I'm rootin for Melissa & their fam during this tough time 💕

You gotta wonder what's going on here, right? I mean, one minute you're a beloved actor, and the next, allegations of child abuse and misconduct are flying left and right... 🤯 This whole situation has me thinking about accountability in Hollywood and how power dynamics play out behind the scenes. I'm not saying Timothy Busfield is guilty or innocent, but what's concerning is that these allegations have been around for decades, and it took until now for them to surface.

It's like, what were the authorities doing all those years ago? And why did it take a 17-year-old extra coming forward in 1994 for things to start moving? This whole thing feels like a giant mess, and we need to get to the bottom of it. Melissa Gilbert's response about taking care of their family is admirable, but can't she also be advocating for her husband's freedom and clearing his name without putting herself through this public scrutiny? The West Wing may have earned Busfield an Emmy, but what about justice? 💼

🤕 This is so sad for all the families involved, especially those twin brothers... 11 years old! How can someone do that to kids? It's not just about what Busfield says it's not true, but the fact that there are multiple allegations and a pattern of behavior that's concerning. Melissa Gilbert trying to stay strong and focus on their family is really admirable, but it's hard to see her go through this too... 🤗

🤔 This whole situation is like, you know when your favorite politician gets caught in a scandal... yeah, it's like that 🙄. You gotta wonder if these allegations are true or just another case of the #MeToo movement being taken out of context 🤷‍♀️. I mean, Timothy Busfield has been acting for like, decades, and now all these past incidents come flooding back? It's like he's got a permanent record 📝.

And what about Melissa Gilbert? Is she just covering up for her husband or is she genuinely concerned about their family's well-being? You can't blame her for wanting to protect them during this tough time ⚠️. But at the same time, doesn't it raise questions about how much of a role she should be playing in public eye right now? Shouldn't she just let her husband take the fall on his own? 🤷‍♀️ It's like politics all over again...

🤦‍♂️ Like, I don't even know what's more cringeworthy - the fact that Timothy Busfield is facing these allegations or that his wife is trying to play it cool while her hubby's career is literally imploding 🙅‍♀️... and btw, who thought it was a good idea for a 68-year-old actor to try to deny all allegations of child abuse? 🤔 Not me, that's for sure.

But what really gets me is how Melissa Gilbert has basically become the human version of a "please support your spouse but also keep your distance" meme 💁‍♀️... I get it, fam, he's your husband and all, but come on, prioritize those twin brothers' feelings over your hubby's reputation for once? 🤷‍♂️
