Trump says U.S. must 're-examine' everyone who came from Afghanistan under Biden after National Guard shooting

US President Donald Trump has called for a comprehensive review of all Afghan nationals who entered the country under President Biden's administration following a shooting incident in Washington D.C. The suspect, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, allegedly targeted two National Guard members, sparking outrage among Afghan-American communities.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has halted processing of immigration requests from Afghanistan indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols. This decision comes amid concerns over the vetting process for refugees admitted during the Biden administration.

Critics argue that a blanket re-examination of all Afghans in the US is unfair, given the extensive security vetting they have already undergone before arrival in the country. Advocacy groups, including #AfghanEvac, say that Afghan immigrants and wartime allies who resettle in the US face some of the most rigorous screening.

The shooting incident has reignited controversy over Trump's policies towards Afghan refugees and asylum seekers. The former president has suspended all refugee resettlement in the US during his second term and terminated protections allowing Afghans to live and work in the country temporarily due to security concerns.

While Trump claims to be committed to helping Afghans who worked with US forces, critics argue that this decision is punitive and unfair, rather than targeted. The US has resettled over 80,000 Afghan refugees since the withdrawal of US-led forces from Afghanistan, but many others have been left behind.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that as of March last year, over 152,000 Afghan Special Immigrant Visa applicants were waiting on processing in Afghanistan, highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive review of security and vetting protocols.

.. I'm trying to wrap my head around this whole situation... 🤔 The US is essentially saying that all Afghans who came here under Biden's watch are suddenly untrustworthy? It just doesn't sit right with me, you know? Like, what about the ones who were vetted and cleared already? Are they going to be caught in the crossfire? 😕 I mean, we're talking about people who were fighting alongside US forces, for crying out loud! They deserve some level of trust and security.

And it's not just about the Afghans themselves, but also the Afghan-Americans who are already living in the US, trying to build a life here. This blanket review is gonna cause a lot of anxiety and uncertainty, and I'm not sure that's the right approach... 🤷‍♂️ Maybe we need to take a step back and re-evaluate our entire refugee system, rather than just targeting one group?

omg u no what's gonna happen here? 🤯 trump's just tryin to cover his own back, he suspended refugee resettlement during his 2nd term 'cause of security concerns... now he wanna re-examine ALL afghan nationals who came in under biden's admin? that's like tryna hold 1000 people hostage over 1 bad apple 🍎. advocacy groups r sayin it's unfair, given the extensive vetting they've already gone thru. i feel 4 the afghan ppl, dey been through enough already 😩. and lets not forget, trump terminated protections for afghans to live & work in the us... that's straight up mean spirited 🤕

🤔 This shooting incident is a harsh reminder that even with all the precautions, something can still go terribly wrong. I'm worried about Rahmanullah Lakanwal being identified as a suspect without knowing more context - was he already on some kind of watch list? Still, I get why Trump's calling for a review - we need to make sure our security vetting is solid, especially with so many Afghans in the US.

But, can this be done fairly? Like, what about all those who've been cleared and are living their lives here? It feels like we're going back to square one. I also wonder if we should be focusing on more pressing issues like processing the backlog of 152k+ Afghan visa applicants... that's a huge chunk of people left behind 🕒

🤔 Just had to think about this... seems like super tough situation. Can't blame Trump for being cautious but doesn't seem fair to re-examine all those Afghan nationals who went through vetting already 🙅‍♂️. 80k+ Afghans resettled since Biden's admin and they've been thoroughly checked 😬. Suspending refugee resettlement now? That's gonna hurt some good people 🤕. Don't get me wrong, security is key but blanket re-examination might be harsh... what do u think? 🤔

omg, this is so unfair 🤯! like, Rahmanullah was already cleared by multiple agencies and now Trump wants to re-vet everything? 🙄 it's not fair to all the good people who genuinely worked with US forces. and what about those who are just trying to start a new life here? they're stuck in limbo because of one shooting incident 🤦‍♂️. I get that security is important, but this blanket review thingy is not gonna fix anything 💪. we need better solutions than punishing ppl for a random act of violence 🙏. and btw, 152k+ people waiting on visas? that's just crazy! 😱 what's going on?!

ugh this is so not fair 🙄. all afghans who came here because they helped us shouldn't be treated like this. Rahmanullah was already vetted when he got his visa and now he gets to be blamed for something that happened in washington? it's not right 😔. I'm all about safety and security, but let's not be cruel on people just 'cause of politics 🤷‍♀️. we should be helping them instead of making life harder 💔.
