Rep. Thanedar Unveils Articles of Impeachment Against AG Pam Bondi, Latest in String of Failed Efforts
In a move that has reignited the impeachment debate, U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar announced plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday. This marks the latest development in a series of impeachment pushes by Thanedar that have thus far failed to gain traction.
Thanedar's announcement comes as he seeks reelection in a district that has remained safely Democratic. The Michigan Democrat will face four other Democrats in the August primary, including progressive state Rep. Donavan McKinney.
Bondi, who has been criticized for spreading false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, is said to have defied a congressional mandate to release files tied to Jeffrey Epstein's case. Thanedar accuses Bondi of conspiring with Trump's administration to cover up the release of these records and of abusing her authority to pressure Minnesota for sensitive data.
Additionally, Thaneder claims that Bondi has "weaponized" the Justice Department to target Trump critics, further escalating tensions between Democrats and Republicans over the AG's handling of investigations. The Attorney General has not yet publicly responded to Thanedar's impeachment announcement.
This move comes after two recent failed impeachment pushes by Thanedar: one in December against U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, accusing him of issuing unlawful military orders and mishandling classified information, and another in April against President Trump, alleging corruption, obstruction of justice, and other misconduct.
House Democratic leaders have made it clear that impeachment efforts against members of the Trump administration are effectively dead on arrival in a Republican-controlled chamber. However, Thanedar's latest push against Bondi is unlikely to be met with the same level of resistance.
