We must look beyond the brute numbers to really appreciate Haaland's legend | Jonathan Liew

The stats will always tell a part of the story. For years it was easy enough - Haaland was on the move from one massive club to another, scoring goals wherever he went like a hot knife through butter. But that's all changed now, and we're forced to look beyond those impressive numbers.

We still know his strengths: the barrelling run between defenders, the goal from two yards out with whatever part of his body feels most convenient, the cross from the left that leaves everyone else for dead. But what about the rest? Does Haaland have a few more tricks up his sleeve now?

It seems so. He's learned to feint and shoot on his right foot, he dinks the ball around keepers with ease, and occasionally takes the classic side-foot approach but twists it just enough to leave you wondering how on earth he does it. There's even a lightness and playfulness to him now that we didn't always see.

And then there's the rest of Haaland - off the pitch, where we're seeing more maturity and growth as he allows himself to be the person he is rather than hiding behind his sporty persona. He makes videos on YouTube about his diet (think yak milk and liquid barium), jokes about his glutes being 'activated', and generally seems like a man who's allowed himself to relax into the world.

But Haaland is still all about those numbers, too. And in an age where we're constantly bombarded with data - stats, goals, assists, you name it - do they really tell us enough? Do we know what kind of footballer Erling Haaland truly is?

To some extent, maybe not. We can discuss how he benefits from City's financial might and the state ownership that gives him a level of protection other strikers don't have. But past that point, it's hard to look beyond those impressive stats and see what makes this man tick.

What we want from footballers is more than just goals - we want them to struggle, hurt, occasionally make fools of themselves. We want recognisable people behind the personas. And above all, we want to be moved and astonished by something new. Can we ever get tired of watching Haaland score? Maybe come back in three years' time.

For now, though, let's just enjoy what he does best: scoring goals like nobody else can.

im thinkin the stats are just part of the story, u feel? we all know erling haaland is a goal-scoring machine, but whats behind that? hes got some cool moves now, like feintin and shootin with his right foot lol. and on off the pitch, hes showin more maturity and just bein himself, which is pretty cool.

i think its time we start lookin beyond just the numbers, u know? we wanna see footballers who can struggle, make mistakes, and just be human. not just some robotic person who only cares about scorin goals. and yeah, maybe we will get tired of watchin him score after a while, but 4 now, hes still killin it ๐Ÿ™Œ

I'm so over the stats obsession ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ด, it's all anyone cares about anymore! We need more depth, we need to see what makes these players tick beyond just their goal-scoring record ๐Ÿค”. I mean, Haaland's got skills for sure, but is he adaptable? Can he take a hit and keep going? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Or is it all just about the numbers game? And don't even get me started on the "dressing room package" ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ, do we really care about their personal lives when they're not on the pitch? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Let's see more of the real Haaland, not just his highlight reels โฑ๏ธ!

I'm not sure I buy the hype around Haaland anymore ๐Ÿ˜Š. He's still putting up crazy numbers and making highlight reels, but is it really that deep? I think we're getting caught up in his "personality" and social media presence ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, yeah, he's fun to watch on YouTube and all that, but can we separate the Haaland we see off the pitch from the one on the pitch?

And what about when things don't go his way? Do we really want to see him make mistakes or struggle like a normal human being? I think some people are so enamored with the stats and the goals that they're overlooking the fact that footballers can have bad games too... it's just part of the game, you know? ๐Ÿค”

I'm not saying Haaland isn't an amazing player, but let's not get carried away here. Can we take a step back and try to see him as more than just a goal-scoring machine? Maybe then we can start to appreciate what makes him tick... or at least what makes him unique ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I mean, have you seen the way he moves on the pitch anymore? It's like he's got a new trick up his sleeve every 5 seconds ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm still loving his goal-scoring form, no doubt about it! But what I want to know is, can we really trust those stats anymore? I mean, everyone knows Haaland's got skills, but what about when the going gets tough? Does he even get tired or hurt like a normal human being? ๐Ÿค”

And you know what would take his game to the next level? If he started talking more about his personal life in interviews. I'm not asking for a tell-all, just some behind-the-scenes stuff that makes us see him as a person, not just a footballer. That's what I love watching - when a player can make me laugh or feel something other than just excitement or frustration towards the game.

I gotta say, people are always hung up on the numbers with Haaland. I mean, who doesn't love a good goal? But for me, it's more about how he plays the game now vs back in his Dortmund days. He seems more unpredictable, more willing to try new things and take risks. And yeah, it's kinda cool that we're getting a glimpse into his personality off the pitch too - I mean who wouldn't want to see what someone eats for breakfast? But can we really say we know him as a person or is he just still the same old Erling scoring goals left and right?

he's defo evolved from just being this raw goal-scoring machine to actually showing some skills and personality off the pitch ๐Ÿค” i mean dont get me wrong those stats are still impressive but it's cool to see him be himself and have a sense of humour about it he's not afraid to poke fun at himself or show his interests on youtube like who would've thought he'd do a vid about yak milk lol

I'm feeling the love for Haaland right now ๐Ÿคฉ! He's grown so much as a player and it's amazing to see him experimenting with new moves on the field... those dinks around goalkeepers? ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ And off the pitch, his YouTube videos are hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚, who knew we'd be entertained by yak milk recipes?! But what I love most is how he's allowed himself to relax and be more genuine. We all need a little bit of Haaland's positivity in our lives ๐Ÿ’›

I think stats are super important, but they don't show the whole story ๐Ÿค”. I mean, we know Erling Haaland is an amazing player because of those goals and assists, but have you seen his videos on YouTube? He's actually really funny and relaxed, which is awesome to see ๐Ÿ˜‚. And yeah, he's not just a one-trick pony - he can do all sorts of cool things with the ball. But at the same time, I get it that we want more than just numbers - we want to connect with them on a human level too ๐Ÿ‘.

I think Haaland is doing a great job of being himself and showing us his personality off the pitch ๐Ÿ™Œ. And who knows, maybe some day he'll surprise us with something new and amazing ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. For now, let's just enjoy watching him play - he's definitely putting on a show ๐Ÿ’ฅ!

Dude, I'm loving the evolution of Erling Haaland on and off the pitch ๐Ÿคฉ! He's no longer just a goal-scoring machine, but an actual human being with personality and quirks ๐Ÿ˜‚. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a footballer try out different diets and joke about his glutes? It's refreshing to see him embracing himself rather than hiding behind his sporty image.

At the same time, though, I think we need to be more critical of these stats-driven athletes ๐Ÿค”. Yes, they're amazing at what they do, but it's hard not to feel like we're missing out on something deeper by only looking at numbers and highlights reels ๐Ÿ“Š. Can't we want more from our footballers? Want them to make mistakes, struggle with injuries, and have imperfections that make them more relatable?

For now, though, Haaland is still a goal-scoring god, and I'm here for it ๐Ÿ˜Ž! Let's just enjoy the ride and appreciate his skills โ€“ but also keep an eye out for the human side of him. Maybe one day we'll get to see that shine through in the stats too ๐Ÿคž.

๐Ÿค” I think it's kinda sad that stats don't tell the whole story about footballers ๐Ÿˆ https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/56247955

I mean Haaland is like a super efficient machine on the pitch, but off the pitch he's got this other side to him too ๐Ÿ˜‚
Does it matter that he makes videos about his diet and jokes about his glutes? ๐Ÿคฃ I guess some people care more about that than just goals. But for me, it's all good โ€“ he scores goals like a pro ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm loving Erling Haaland's evolution as a player ๐Ÿคฉ! He's not just about the numbers anymore, you know? The stats still pop out, but there's this whole new level of skill and finesse to his game now ๐Ÿ’ช. That feint-shoot combo is insane ๐Ÿ”ฅ, and his videos on YouTube are giving me life ๐Ÿ˜‚. I mean, who knew he was into yak milk and liquid barium? ๐Ÿคฃ

But for real, it's refreshing to see him be himself off the pitch too. We don't always need the drama or the pretenses โ€“ sometimes we just want to see our faves being goofy and human ๐Ÿคช. And yeah, let's not forget about his goalscoring prowess ๐Ÿ˜... I'm still on the edge of my seat every time he steps onto the pitch ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

Can we ever get tired of watching him score? probs not ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ! The stats may tell part of the story, but Haaland's growth as a player and a person is what makes him truly special ๐Ÿ”“. Bring on the next three years โ€“ I'm here for it ๐Ÿ˜†

I mean, I love Haaland on the pitch, but it feels like his stats are the only thing we get to see about him ๐Ÿค”. We know he's all about those numbers, and while it's cool to watch him score, doesn't that just tell part of the story? Like, what's behind the scenes, you know? He seems more relaxed now, posting silly videos on YouTube and being himself off the pitch, but are we really seeing the real Erling Haaland here? ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, can we really get tired of watching him score or is that just a number too? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ The thing is, footballers need to be more than just goals, they need to show us their struggles, their personalities... something new to watch. I'm curious if Haaland's still got some tricks up his sleeve, but for now, let's enjoy the scoring part ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I think it's really interesting how stats have changed the way we perceive footballers like Haaland ๐Ÿค”. I mean, don't get me wrong, his numbers are insane, but is that really all there is to him? It feels like we're losing something in terms of depth and nuance because we're so focused on the data.

I think what's missing is the human side of the player - you know, their personality, their struggles, their passions outside of football. I mean, Haaland's been open about his weird diet and stuff like that, but it's not enough. We need to see him make a mistake on the pitch, or get injured, or something. That's where the real heroism is, you know?

And it makes me think about how we view athletes in general. Are they just seen as superhuman beings who exist solely to score goals? I don't think so. I think we need more of a connection with them on a human level. We need to see them as people, not just numbers and stats.

It's like, what would happen if all footballers suddenly decided to stop scoring goals? Would the world even notice? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It sounds crazy, but I think we've lost sight of what really matters in this game.

I think its crazy how much we focus on numbers and stats in football these days ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, don't get me wrong, Haaland is a genius on the pitch and it's amazing to watch him score those goals! But sometimes I wish we'd see more of his personality shine through. He seems like such a down-to-earth guy off the pitch, making videos about his weird diet and joking around about his glutes ๐Ÿ˜‚. That's what makes him so likable, you know? But when it comes to playing football, all we really get is those stats ๐Ÿ“Š. Can't we just enjoy the game for what it is, without needing all that extra info? I'm not saying stats aren't important, but sometimes I think they get in the way of appreciating the player as a person ๐Ÿ‘.
