McLaren had 'concern' early in Las Vegas GP after Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri disqualified.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella admitted that the team was aware of an issue with their cars from the early stages of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which ultimately led to the disqualification of both drivers.
Stella revealed that the problem was caused by "an anomaly in the behaviour of the car" and not due to any excessive or unreasonable chase for performance. The safety margin applied had been negated by the unexpected onset of large vertical oscillations, which caused the car to touch the ground.
The amount of excessive wear on the metal skids was relatively minor, with Norris' front skid being 0.12mm over the permitted limit and Piastri's rear skid being 0.26mm over.
McLaren's approach this season has been to let Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri compete with each other for the championship as long as both are mathematically capable of winning. Stella stated that there was "no reason" to change this approach before the Qatar Grand Prix.
The team is confident that they have a well-established way of setting up their car, which will lead them to an optimal plan for the upcoming races, starting from the Lusail International Circuit.
