Mexico’s Sheinbaum says she and Trump agreed to extend trade deadline

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed that she reached a deal with US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline for imposing tariffs on Mexican goods. According to Sheinbaum, she and Trump agreed to give themselves "a few more weeks" to discuss outstanding trade issues.

Sheinbaum stated during her weekly press conference on Monday that she spoke with Trump over the weekend and emphasized that both countries were working towards resolving 54 outstanding trade barriers. The US had previously paused an increase in tariffs from 25% to 30% for 90 days, which was set to end this week.

With a strong peso following Sheinbaum's comments, Mexico seems to be relieved about avoiding higher tariffs. A recent deal between the United States and Canada was recently ended by President Trump citing frustration with the negotiations.

Ugh man... can't believe we're still dealing with this trade stuff 🤯. Like, I get it, countries gotta negotiate and all that, but come on, a few more weeks? That's just putting it off for another round of drama 🙄. And what really gets me is how the USD surged after sheinbaum made those comments... it's like they're celebrating being stuck in limbo 💸. Meanwhile, Canada was over here like "peace out" with Trump after their deal fell through... I mean, can't we all just get along? 🤗 And what about Mexico's economy? It feels like they're stuck in a never-ending cycle of tariffs and uncertainty ⏰... I guess only time will tell if this extension really helps them out 🤔.

so like that makes sense right? they were just gonna raise those tariffs and now its delayed a bit... i think mexico is pretty chill about it too 🙌, but what really got me thinking is that trump said something about not being happy with the canada deal... doesnt that kinda sound like hes just making things up as he goes along? 🤔 anyway, at least theyre talking and trying to resolve some of those trade issues, so thats a start 💬.

🤔 just had to share my thoughts on this trade deal thingy... i mean, it's a big relief for mexico that they didn't get hit with those higher tariffs 🙌. but like, what even is the point of all these back and forths? can't we just, you know, communicate and stuff? 🤷‍♀️ i swear, if i had to look at another chart or graph with a bunch of lines and bars, my brain might just melt 💀... anywayz, glad that mexico got a reprieve 😊. and canada's deal got scrapped too? sounds like trump is having a bit of an epic fail 🤦‍♂️.

Its good that both countries can come together like this, even if they didn't exactly agree on everything 🤝. I mean, a few more weeks is still better than no agreement at all, right? The strong peso is definitely a positive sign for Mexico, and its nice to see some relief after the uncertainty of those tariffs.

I also feel bad for Canada though 😔, with Trump pulling out of their deal it's like they got kinda stuck in limbo. Hopefully both countries can get back on track soon and find a way forward that works for everyone. It's all about finding that middle ground, right? 🌎

I'm not sure if extending the deadline on tariffs is such a good thing for Mexico 🤔. I mean, we were kinda counting on some relief from those increased tariffs, you know? A few more weeks to discuss trade issues just feels like more uncertainty 🕰️. What's the holdup gonna be then? More talks? It seems like both countries are already talking, what's stopping them from making a deal then? 🤷‍♂️

I mean, can you imagine if we had to pay 30% more for tacos? That'd be a real crisis! 😂 But seriously, I'm glad some sense has been made here. The last thing we need is higher tariffs making our everyday lives worse. I guess this means the US and Mexico are finally having a chill conversation about trade – no more yelling and threatening tariffs like in that movie "The Big Lebowski" 🤣. It's all good, folks! Now, if only they could work on those avocado prices... that'd be a whole different story 😜.

🙌 I'm so relieved that some sanity finally prevailed in this crazy trade situation! 🤯 I mean, a few more weeks can't hurt, right? It's not like it's the end of the world if they can't agree on everything now 😅. And honestly, 54 outstanding trade barriers is just ridiculous – who thought that was a good idea? 🤷‍♀️

I'm also kinda surprised that Trump agreed to give Mexico some breathing room after all the drama he put them through 💁‍♂️. I guess you could say he's trying to play it cool now, but we'll see how long this truce lasts 😎.

And can we talk about the peso for a sec? 🤑 It's like, yay, Mexican economy! Now let's hope they can actually use those extra weeks to resolve some real issues and not just fiddle with tariffs all day 😊.

🙌 I'm glad to hear that both countries are working together to resolve their trade issues, it's a huge step forward 🤝. I mean, think about it, if they had let the tariffs go up, it would've been a major blow to Mexico's economy and who knows how many jobs would've been lost 💔. But now, they're giving themselves some extra time to iron out their differences and that's definitely positive news 🌞. And hey, a strong peso is always a good thing for Mexico, right? 😊 It's just another example of how having a level head and being open to compromise can lead to better outcomes 👍.

Just heard that Mexico got a reprieve on those tariffs 🙌! I'm not surprised, tbh - trade talks can get pretty complicated. The fact that Sheinbaum and Trump had a productive chat over the weekend is a good sign for diplomacy, at least 🤝. It's also interesting to note that the peso strengthened after the announcement... maybe people are feeling more optimistic about the future? But, gotta wonder what happened with that deal between the US and Canada - sounds like it ended on a sour note 😐. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole thing plays out!

Just read about this deal between Mexico & US 🤔... think it's awesome that Sheinbaum got a breather, can't imagine how stressful negotiating trade barriers must be 😬. Also, don't really get why US had to pause those tariffs in first place, seems kinda counterproductive 🤑. Glad Canada is out of the mix too, that was getting complicated ⚖️. Mexico's economy just took a weight off its shoulders, now let's hope they can focus on more important stuff 💼. Anyway, love how diplomatic she sounds, always great to see world leaders actually talking things through 😊

ugh I'm so down for these tariffs lol 🤪 think it's awesome that mexico is being held hostage over trade issues like a couple of strongmen playing poker with countries' economies 💸 i mean who needs free markets or fair trade agreements anyway? let's just have some good old fashioned protectionism and see what kind of chaos we can create 🌪️ and btw why are people so surprised that trump would renege on a deal? he's not exactly known for his commitment to treaties 🤦‍♂️

omg i just learned that mexico had an agreement with us lol what's the point of all these trade deals tho? like how do they even work? 🤔 is it like, super complicated or something? and btw have you seen the exchange rate lately? my friend from mexico was saying it's crazy how much peso is going up 🤑

Wow 💥 the US is really getting close to imposing those tariffs on Mexican goods 🚨, but it looks like they're backing down for now ⏱️. It's actually kinda cool that Sheinbaum and Trump were able to hammer out a deal 😎, I mean who doesn't love avoiding trade wars? 💸 The peso is definitely getting a boost from this news 📈, so fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞. Interesting how Canada's deal with the US ended abruptly though 🤔

Just saw that Mexico got some breathing room on those trade tariffs 🙏. I gotta say, it's kinda refreshing to see leaders talking it out instead of just slapping tariffs left & right. And Sheinbaum sounds like a total pro for holding her own in those talks 💁‍♀️. Still, you wonder what the real reason was for Trump to pause the tariffs in the first place... Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out 🤔. At least it's giving Mexico some time to figure out their trade strategy without too much stress 😊.

i think its awesome that mexican president claudia sheinbaum and us president donald trump were able to reach a deal to give themselves more time to discuss their trade issues 🤝💼, now mexico can finally breathe a sigh of relief and their economy can keep on growing 💸. its also good to know that they're working together to resolve those 54 outstanding trade barriers - maybe we'll see some positive changes soon 🌞. btw, a strong peso is always a good thing for mexico's economy ⏱️!

Just heard that Mexico got an extension on those tariffs 🤝🏼! I'm not sure how this is gonna affect everyone, but a few more weeks sounds like a win for both countries, right? The peso went up after Sheinbaum's presser, so it seems the Mexican people are breathing a sigh of relief. Still a bit worried about those trade barriers though... been hearing that US and Canada didn't exactly see eye to eye on their deal 😕
