Deadly Crash on Southwest Side Leaves Two Lives Lost, One Life Saved
A chaotic afternoon on the Southwest Side turned deadly when a young driver plowed into an SUV attempting to make a left turn onto California Avenue. The 21-year-old sedan driver, traveling westbound in the 2800 block of West 87th Street, failed to slow down and collided with the vehicle.
The impact proved fatal for the occupants of the SUV, a 73-year-old man and his 76-year-old female passenger. Both were pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they were taken following the accident.
Miraculously, the sedan driver emerged from the wreckage with non-life-threatening injuries, including an injury to his right leg. He was transported to the same hospital in fair condition and later received a citation for failing to reduce his speed before the crash.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but so far, no further details have been made public.
