2 siblings dead, mother critically hurt in apparent Bronx murder-suicide, officials say

Tragedy Strikes Bronx Family: Siblings and Mother Left Dead, One Seriously Injured in Bizarre Murder-Suicide Incident

A devastating scene unfolded early Thursday morning in a Bronx apartment building when a man allegedly took the lives of his sister and mother before turning the gun on himself. The NYPD responded to reports of multiple shots fired at around 8 a.m., only to find two people, identified as Mario Garcia, 55, and Maria Garcia, 59, both fatally shot in their heads.

The scene became even more grim when responders discovered their elderly mother, Maria's sister-in-law and the building's resident, was also critically injured – shots had struck her in the face. Despite efforts by first responders, both of the siblings were pronounced dead at the scene.

As investigators begin to unravel the events leading up to this tragic event, questions surround the identity and employment status of Mario Garcia. A Port Authority police officer, his involvement is currently under investigation, although details regarding whether he was on-duty remain unclear as the agency has declined comment.

The 86-year-old victim, Maria's mother, remains hospitalized in critical condition at Harlem Hospital. Authorities have yet to determine a motive for this brutal act of violence and no arrests have been made thus far.

In light of these developments, police are urging anyone with information about this disturbing incident to come forward, although more time will likely be needed to decipher the events leading up to this devastating crime.

🤕 a bunch of people are just sitting at home thinking what's wrong with someone who snaps like dis 🤯? 55 and 59 years old, taking out their own family 👪💀 it's crazy how things can escalate so fast 😱. they're saying the guy might have been on duty but that's not stopping them from investigating 🕵️‍♂️. meanwhile, his sister's still fighting for her life 💕... 🤖 diagram:

🤝 it's time to talk about mental health and get people the help they need 🌟. 💔

.. can't believe what's happening in the world right now 🤕. I mean, think about it, people were always worried about reality TV and all that drama, but at least we thought those shows were just scripted and fake 😂. Now, we've got real-life horror stories like this, and it's just heartbreaking.

I remember when my mom used to talk about how the Bronx used to be a beautiful place back in the day 🌃. She'd tell me stories about the old neighborhood, the parks, and the people who lived there. It was like a different world then. Now, I guess you could say that reality has finally caught up with us 😔.

And can we talk about how messed up it is when a cop is involved in something like this? I mean, I know they're just doing their job, but come on... 🙄. It's like the lines between right and wrong are getting blurred. Anyway, my heart goes out to the family and friends of those who were affected by this tragedy ❤️.

[The Meme Dropper] Oh man 🤯, when will people just get along? 😔 [GIF of a person shrugging and saying "I don't know"]

I'm not even going to try to explain why this keeps happening in our world... 😩♂️ I mean, have you seen those true crime podcasts? It's like we're all just living in a never-ending episode of 'Law & Order'. Anyway, can we please take a minute to think about the 86-year-old lady who got shot in the face and is still alive? That's some next-level resilience right there 💪. I guess you could say she's the real MVP (Most Valuable Survivor?). 🤣

😩 this is getting outta hand... 55 yrs old guy just went and got his whole family done in 🤯 what was he thinkin'? no life left at all... poor sister 💔 & mom 😭 still alive but critically hurt... hope she pulls thru 🙏 can't imagine how messed up his head musta been to do somethin' like this 💀

🤕😱 this is just heartbreaking news... it's like how can something so senseless happen in one family? 🤷‍♂️ the fact that there was a Port Authority police officer involved is making me even more uneasy, I mean what were they doing at the scene? did they know about this beforehand? 💔 and to think that the mom is still hospitalized and not out of the woods yet... my heart goes out to her and the whole Garcia family 🤞

omg, just saw the news and I'm literally shaking my head 🤕😱... what's going on with these families?! first the dad kills his wife, now he kills his sister & mom too? it's like something out of a movie 🎥💀 and that police officer involved in this is giving me LIFE (or is he?)👮‍♂️😒 gotta keep an eye on this one...

😔 just saw this news and my heart is heavy for that family 🤕. it's crazy how things can spiral out of control like that. i'm keeping the elderly lady in hospital in my thoughts, hoping she pulls through 💫. why do these tragedies always seem to happen when you least expect them? 🤯

Interesting 🤔💔 This whole thing is just so sad and confusing... I mean, a guy kills his mom and sister, then shoots himself? What's going on in that head? And how did it go from him being alive to all of them dead in like 5 seconds? It's just heartbreaking. 😢

😱 this is just so senseless what was going through that guy's mind?! 55 and 59 and an elderly lady who's only job is taking care of her family... all lost over a gun... 🤯 it's like, can't we find a way to help people who are struggling without resorting to violence? 🤔 I'm not buying the "police investigation" thing just yet... there has to be more to this story than what's being released. And what about that Port Authority cop? Shouldn't he be the top suspect?! 🚨

Wow 😱 this is just so shocking and sad... like what could make someone do something like that? 🤔 and poor Maria's mom, still fighting for her life 💕. The fact that Mario was a Port Authority cop already makes this even weirder 🚨. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon 🕰️.

This is just so sad 🤕. You'd think that living in an apartment building would be safe, but I guess you never know what's going on behind closed doors. The fact that it was a family member who committed this heinous act is just heartbreaking. My heart goes out to Maria's sister and the Port Authority cop's family - they must be going through some terrible times right now. 😔

I'm also wondering how long it takes for people to seek help when they're struggling with their mental health. Was there a red flag that was missed or ignored? It's just too early to say, but I hope the investigation uncovers all the facts and brings some justice to these victims' families. 💔

Ugh, great, another day where the idea that people who work in law enforcement or emergency services can't possibly lose control and snap is just proving itself wrong 😒. I mean, think about it, a cop gets involved in this, and we're all like 'oh no, how could this have happened?' But what's really interesting is why he wasn't arrested on the spot. Is that not his job? 🤔 I'm sure there's some bureaucratic red tape at play here that's making it even harder to get answers. And another thing, we're focusing so much on the guy who did this, but what about the people around him? Were they aware of any warning signs? Did anyone suspect anything? I bet there are a whole lot of 'what ifs' going through everyone's minds right now... 🤯

This is just so senseless... a family torn apart by such a heinous act 🤕. I mean, can't we all just get along? It's heartbreaking thinking about those poor siblings and their mom, who was like a grandma to everyone in the building 🙏. And now her niece is fighting for her life... it's just too much 😩. I'm not buying that Mario Garcia was working at the Port Authority though - what's his story? What drove him to do this? 🤔 We need more info ASAP, and I hope our police can find out soon. This whole thing stinks of desperation... did we miss some warning signs? 💀

this is just another example of how messed up our society is 🤯 people lose their minds and turn on each other in the most horrific ways. can't we all just try to get along and support each other? it's not rocket science, but I guess some people just can't handle reality 💔 86 years old and still getting shot by her own son... what's going through someone's mind at that age? seems like a whole lot of trauma and pain went into this guy's head. hope the mom recovers from this though 🙏

Just saw this on my feed 🤕. Can't help but wonder what led a man to take his own life and those of his loved ones. Family dynamics can get super complicated... hoping the injured one recovers soon 💪🏽. Not sure about the Port Authority officer thing, feels like there's more to it than meets the eye 🤔.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... I mean, a guy takes out his own family and then tries to take himself down too? It's just so... random 🤯. And can you believe he was a Port Authority cop?! Like, what kind of investigation is gonna be done on him now? I'm guessing it'll all come out in due time, but for now, it's just one huge mess 🚽💔. The poor family is left with nothing but grief and questions... ugh, my heart goes out to them 💕. And that elderly lady who was shot too... she's gotta be going through hell right now 😩. This whole thing just feels so sad and avoidable 🤷‍♀️.

Ugh, I'm still trying to process this news 🤕. A Port Authority cop involved in a murder-suicide? That's just awful 😔. I mean, what was going on in that head of his? 🤯 How did it all lead up to this brutal act? 💀 And poor Maria's mom, 86 years old and still fighting for her life... that's heartbreaking ❤️. The police need to dig deep to figure out the motive behind this tragedy. Can't believe they're not commenting on the cop's involvement yet 🤐. Hopefully, justice will be served soon 🙏.

😱 just heard about this horrific thing that happened in the Bronx... can't believe a whole family got caught up in such a tragedy 🤯. I mean, what's even more disturbing is the fact that one of the "victims" was a Port Authority police officer 😔. This raises so many questions about corruption and mental health issues within law enforcement agencies 🤷‍♂️. One thing for sure, my thoughts are with the family and the innocent victims who lost their lives 💔. This incident is still too fresh to be analyzed yet, but I'm hoping for a thorough investigation to uncover what led up to this devastating act of violence 💥.
