2026 Oscars snubs and surprises include Ariana Grande, George Clooney, Paul Mescal missing from nominees

Several big-name stars were snubbed by the Academy in their nominations for this year's Oscars. George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Paul Mescal, Amanda Seyfried, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Brad Pitt failed to make it into their respective categories, with some expressing disappointment on social media.

On the other hand, "Sinners" made history by breaking the record for most Oscar nominations with 16. The film's success was also mirrored in the new category of best casting, which saw a nomination. "One Battle After Another," earning 13 nominations, followed closely behind.

In terms of acting categories, it was notable that several talented individuals were overlooked, including Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their work in "Wicked: For Good." Other notable absences included the likes of Hugh Jackman, Michael B. Jordan, and Joaquin Phoenix.

On the other hand, some names were to be expected as Oscar nominees. Timothée Chalamet earned his third nomination with his starring role in "Marty Supreme," while Leonardo DiCaprio picked up his eighth nod for his performance in "One Battle After Another."

The list of Oscar nominees in the acting categories was filled with talented individuals, including Jessie Buckley for her work in "Hamnet" and Rose Byrne for her role in "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You." Emma Stone also earned a fifth nomination for her starring role in "Bugonia."

A total of five actors were nominated for their supporting roles. However, notable absences included Paul Mescal, who was left off the list despite his impressive performance in "Hamnet" at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Despite some surprising snubs, there were also some deserving actors who earned their first Oscar nominations. These included Delroy Lindo, Jacob Elordi, and Stellan Skarsgård for their roles in various films.

omg what's up with these oscars snubs? i feel so bad for cynthia erivo and ariana grande 🤔🎬 they deserved recognition for their work in "Wicked: For Good" 😩 but i guess you can't win 'em all 👑 anyway, it's cool that delroy lindo jacob elordi and stellan skarsgård are getting their first oscars 🎉 they totally deserve it #OscarsSnubs #JusticeForErivoAndGrande

omg did u see that list? 🤯 16 nomos for "Sinners" is crazy! 🚀 also kinda sad to see some talented actors like Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande snubbed 🤔 but Congrats to the winners in Best Picture and Best Director too 🎉 btw, have u checked out the stats on Emma Stone's 5th nomo? 📊 she's on track to win Best Actress for the 3rd time 🙌

idk about all these big stars not getting a nom 🤔, i mean some of them are just having a bad year or maybe they were just overlooked? but omg "Sinners" breaking that record tho 🎉 16 nominations is insane! cant wait to see the full list and find out who's going to win 😏. think it's cool that delroy lindo, jacob elordi, and stellan skarsgard are getting their first oscar nods 👍. also benicio del toro in supporting actor? yessss 🎉👊 but cynthia erivo was robbed not getting a nom for "Wicked: For Good" 🤷‍♀️

I'm shocked 😮 that so many talented actors were snubbed this year 🤔. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande get some recognition for their work in "Wicked: For Good"? 🙄 And what about Hugh Jackman? He's been in the industry for decades and always brings his A-game! 😊

It's great that some deserving actors like Delroy Lindo, Jacob Elordi, and Stellan Skarsgård finally got their first Oscar nominations, though 👏. But at the same time, it's a bit disappointing to see people like Paul Mescal miss out on the list 🤦‍♂️.

I'm also curious about what happened with "Marty Supreme" 🤔. Timothée Chalamet is an amazing actor and his performance in that film was definitely deserving of more recognition 💯. And can we talk about how underwhelming the song nominations were? I mean, I Lied to You from "Sinners"? 🙄 Not exactly my cup of tea.

Anyway, it's going to be a wild ride for awards season 🎉! Can't wait to see what happens at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15 👀.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised that some big-name stars like George Clooney and Julia Roberts got snubbed in their respective categories 😐. I mean, they're both legends of Hollywood and have given us so much amazing performances over the years 🎬. But at the same time, it's great to see some newer faces getting a chance to shine 💥, like Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande 🤩.

It's also cool that there are new categories this year, like best casting 🌈. I'm not sure what the criteria is for that one, but if it means more people are being recognized for their work behind the scenes, then I'm all for it 👏. And yay for some deserving actors getting their first Oscar nominations 🎉! Delroy Lindo, Jacob Elordi, and Stellan Skarsgård are definitely names to watch out for in the future 😊.

omg what's up with some big-name stars gettin snubbed 🤔 like George Clooney and Julia Roberts been in the game for ages but can't even make it to the nominees list 😐 they got a lot of love on social media tho 🙏 but i feel for those talented folks who didn't make the cut... Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were definitely deserving of nominations 🎭 and on the other hand some names like Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio are like "of course you're a nominee" 😊 the full list is out now so we can all see who made it in 👀 can't wait to watch some of these movies 🍿

🤔 I'm glad to see some talented individuals making their Oscar debut, like Delroy Lindo and Jacob Elordi 🎉 But, gotta be honest, some of these snubs are a bit jarring 😒 Like, what's up with Paul Mescal not getting a nomination? He nailed his role in "Hamnet" at the SAGs 👏. And can we talk about how many "big names" got left off the list? 🤷‍♀️ Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington are legends for crying out loud! 🙌

🙌 I feel bad for some of these big stars who didn't make it into the Oscars this year 🤔. It's like they just weren't meant to win 🎉. But on a positive note, "Sinners" is totally killing it with 16 nominations 📈! They must have done something right, and I'm super hyped for them 💖. And can we talk about how deserving some of these actors are who got their first Oscar nominations? Delroy Lindo, Jacob Elordi, and Stellan Skarsgård - you guys totally earned it 🙌!

omg like what even is going on at the Oscars? i mean i know some people are salty about not getting nom but c'mon if you're a big name star and u didn't get nominated then maybe u shouldn't be so surprised 🙄 anyway it's def cool that sinners broke the record for most nominations tho i mean 16 is no joke! 💁‍♀️ also gotta say i'm loving the diversity in this year's acting categories... like yay more women on the list!!! 👏

🤔 I'm a bit surprised at all the big-name stars who didn't make it into the Oscar noms this year 🙄. I mean, George Clooney and Julia Roberts are both legends in the industry 🎬. And what about Hugh Jackman? He's been holding his own for years 💪. Maybe they just had a tough time choosing from all the talented actors out there?

On the other hand, it's awesome to see some new faces getting recognized 🙌. Delroy Lindo and Jacob Elordi are both amazing up-and-comers who deserve their first Oscar nods 🎉. And I'm loving the diversity in the acting categories – it's about time we saw more names from underrepresented groups 🌈.

I do have to say, though, that "Sinners" is definitely snatching all the headlines with those 16 nominations 🤯. The film industry is always about competition, but this year seems like it's taken it to a whole new level 😅. Will they take home the top prize? We'll just have to wait and see 👀

idk about all these big-name stars gettin snubbed 🤔🎬 like what's up? i mean i know academy awards are supposed to be about recognizin great talent and all but you'd think george clooney or julia roberts would've been a shoo-in for their respective categories. and omg benedict cumberbatch is nowhere to be found 😂 what's goin on with the oscar nominations this year? some folks are gonna get super salty when they find out they got snubbed 🤬

omg i'm so confused why some iconic actors like george clooney and julia roberts weren't even considered for oscars 🤔🎥 they had such amazing performances in their movies and you would think they'd get at least a nod 🙏 but maybe that's just the snub factor 😂

anyway, it's awesome to see some talented new faces getting recognized like timothée chalamet, leonardo dicaprio, jessie buckley, and rose byrne 🤩 their performances were so captivating and deserving of an oscar nod 🎉 but on the other hand, i'm a bit surprised that people like paul mescal didn't make it despite doing amazing work at sags awards 🤔 guess you never know who's gonna get snubbed or recognized 💁‍♀️

omg can u believe some big names got snubbed? i mean i get it the oscars are subjective and all but paul mesecal wasnt even nominated 🤔👎 but on a more positive note congrats to "sinners" for breaking that record 🎉👏 they deserve it! also love that delroy lindo, jacob elordi, and stellan skarsgard are getting their first oscars 🙌 its like the awards are finally catching up with them 😊 anyway cant wait for march 15th to see who takes home those gold statues 💃🕺
