A poor surprise reveal for Highguard leaves it fighting an uphill battle for good reviews

Highguard, Wildlight Entertainment's online multiplayer title, has launched with a poor surprise reveal that leaves it fighting an uphill battle for good reviews. The game was revealed via a rather oblique trailer at the Game Awards last December, where most viewers were expecting something huge, but instead received a fantasy-themed shooter no one had heard of.

The studio behind Highguard is comprised of ex-Respawn Entertainment staff who previously worked on Titanfall, Call of Duty and Apex Legends. Given their pedigree, expectations are high for the game's release, however, it seems that Wildlight had not planned to reveal the game before its January launch. Instead, they decided to pull a shadow drop like Apex Legends, which might have been better received.

Despite the initial awkward reveal, Highguard does show promise with its combination of elements from online shooters and Moba games. Players can choose from different hero characters, each with unique skills, and engage in phases of fortifying bases, exploring landscapes for loot, then fighting. The game also boasts impressive graphics with fast-paced and fluid movements.

However, the launch has been marred by negative reviews due to visual performance issues and long queues for matches, which could have been mitigated if Wildlight had not revealed the game so suddenly. It's clear that the initial reveal damaged the perception of the game, making it harder for Highguard to gain good reviews in the future.

Highguard is now facing stiff competition from established online multiplayer titles like Deadlock and games with massive player bases, such as Fortnite. Given the risks involved in developing an online multiplayer title โ€“ hundreds of millions of dollars in development costs and the volatile nature of the market โ€“ it's hard not to worry about the game's prospects.

A successful game needs more than just technical prowess; it also requires a strong community that will stick around for months, generating revenue. The challenge ahead for Highguard is substantial, but with the right execution, the game could carve out its own niche in this crowded space.

idk how they expected us to get hyped about a trailer that just kinda drops all of a sudden ๐Ÿคฏ i mean wildlight thought they were being sneaky by pulling off an apex legend style shadow drop, but honestly it felt like they were just trolling us at this point lol. and yeah the game itself does look pretty, but its gonna take way more than just some sick graphics to make up for the lackluster reveal ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm kinda disappointed in how Highguard launched ๐Ÿค”. I mean, you can tell they're trying to bring something new and exciting, but that trailer was pretty underwhelming ๐ŸŽฅ. And now they're stuck dealing with all these negative reviews because of it... it's tough to get people excited about the game when there's so much uncertainty around it.

But at the same time, I do think Highguard has some potential ๐Ÿ’ช. The combination of elements from online shooters and MOBA games sounds like a solid foundation for something unique, and those graphics look pretty sharp ๐ŸŽฎ. And hey, even if the launch wasn't perfect, it's not like they got a free pass or anything ๐Ÿ˜….

The thing is, you can't just rely on technical prowess to make a game successful - you need people to care about what you're doing ๐Ÿ’•. So yeah, I'm keeping an eye on Highguard and hoping they can turn things around soon ๐Ÿ”œ.

Man, think about it... what's the point of even having a big reveal if it's just gonna leave people confused and worried? ๐Ÿค” Like, did Wildlight really want to go for that kinda stress on launch day? ๐Ÿ˜… I mean, they came from some heavy hitters like Respawn, you'd think they'd know better.

And yeah, I get what they were trying to do with the shadow drop thing, but it's just not the same as a proper reveal. It feels like they were trying to be sneaky and alluring at the same time, but really, they ended up being kinda underhanded. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

But despite all that, I think Highguard still has some potential. The game does look solid, and the idea of mixing online shooters with Moba elements is actually pretty cool. But, you're right, it's just not enough. You need a strong community to back it up, and that's what's really gonna make or break this game. ๐Ÿ’”

.. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I mean, who pulls a shadow drop and expects people to be all hyped up? ๐Ÿ™„ Wildlight Entertainment really dropped the ball (pun intended) with that trailer reveal. It's like they wanted to mess with people's expectations on purpose ๐Ÿค”.

On the bright side, Highguard does seem to have some promising features - those hero characters and base-building mechanics could be a hit for some players ๐Ÿ˜Š. And let's not forget about the graphics... those fast-paced movements are looking sweet ๐Ÿ’ฅ. But, man, all that hype from the Game Awards trailer? It was just a total letdown ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I gotta feel for them, though - developing an online multiplayer game is no easy feat, and the competition out there is crazy ๐Ÿ“ˆ. I mean, Deadlock and Fortnite are like the established titans of the genre... how's Highguard gonna stand out? ๐Ÿ’ช It's definitely a tough road ahead for this one.

I'm not surprised by Highguard's rocky start ๐Ÿค”. Releasing a game with such high expectations and not giving players any real substance beforehand was bound to backfire. I mean, who wants to watch a trailer for something you've already played? ๐Ÿ˜’ And now they're dealing with the aftermath of a 'shadow drop' that probably scared off some potential buyers.

But hey, on the bright side, Highguard does look pretty and plays fast โšก๏ธ. I'm actually intrigued by their unique hero system and the blend of online shooter and MOBA elements. It's just a shame they didn't give players more time to get hyped about it before launch. Now, they're going up against some tough competition, but if they can iron out those pesky performance issues and build a solid community, I wouldn't count them out yet ๐Ÿคž.

Ugh, I'm telling ya, they should've pulled back on revealing that trailer before Game Awards ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... like, what were they thinking? A shadow drop is one thing, but a full-on reveal without building up the hype first is just gonna be confusing and frustrating for players ๐Ÿ˜ณ. And now they're dealing with all these negative reviews and technical issues... it's like, I get it, development costs are huge ๐Ÿ’ธ, but can't you just make sure everything is ironed out before launching? ๐Ÿค”

Ugh, I'm so disappointed in Highguard's launch ๐Ÿค”... I mean, I've been waiting for some new online multiplayer action and the trailer at Game Awards had me hyped ๐Ÿ’ฅ! But yeah, a fantasy-themed shooter after all that hype is just underwhelming ๐Ÿ˜. The team behind it has some big names from Respawn Entertainment so I was expecting more ๐Ÿค”. Shadow dropping it instead of building up to the reveal is not gonna help either... people were expecting something epic and they got nada ๐Ÿšซ. Now it's gonna be tough for them to get good reviews with all the competition out there, especially Fortnite ๐Ÿ‘€.

๐Ÿค” I mean, what's up with Wildlight Entertainment revealing Highguard like that? ๐Ÿ™„ They had everyone hyped for something big and then just dropped a fantasy shooter on us? It's not like they can't do better than that. I was really looking forward to seeing more gameplay before launch, but instead we get this awkward trailer that didn't give me anything concrete.

The game itself does look promising with all the different hero characters and base fortifying mechanics. But come on, guys! You gotta think about how your reveal is gonna affect the community. And yeah, those visual performance issues and long queues for matches are major red flags right now. It's like they didn't even test it before hitting that "play" button.

It's not all doom and gloom though. I mean, we've seen some amazing games come out of nowhere with strong communities behind them (cough Fortnite). But with Highguard facing stiff competition from established titles, I'm a bit skeptical about its chances. They're gonna need to do something special to carve out its own niche in the market.

One thing's for sure - Wildlight Entertainment needs to regroup and reassess their strategy if they want Highguard to succeed. Maybe pull back on some of those hype-driven expectations and focus on delivering a solid gameplay experience? That'd be a step in the right direction, I think ๐Ÿ˜Š
