A WB-57 pilot just made a heroic landing in Houston after its landing gear failed

A NASA WB-57 aircraft made a miraculous landing in Houston after its landing gear failed, and miraculously, the crew is safe. The plane touched down on the runway without its gear extended, relying solely on friction to slow it down as it slid across the ground. Miraculously, there were no injuries reported.

The incident occurred at Ellington Field in southeastern Houston, where video footage captured by KHOU 11 television shows the aircraft touching down safely. The pilot's quick thinking and skill are credited with ensuring a safe landing.

According to NASA spokesperson Bethany Stevens, an investigation into the cause of the mechanical issue is underway. "A thorough investigation will be conducted by NASA into the cause," she said.

The WB-57 aircraft has a rich history dating back to 1944 when it was first developed. Initially used for military purposes, including bombing missions in Vietnam and other campaigns, the plane's variants have been used for scientific research, including weather reconnaissance and upper atmosphere sampling. In recent years, NASA has flown the planes as part of a broader science mission.

The incident is currently under investigation, but its impact on future plans to observe launches and reentry events is unclear.

๐Ÿšจ Oh man, that's insane! Like I don't even believe what happened - no injuries? That's wild! And the fact that it just relied on friction to slow down... that's some crazy engineering (or should I say, crazy piloting?) ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I'm glad everyone is safe and sound though.

It's actually kinda cool that NASA is flying this old plane around again, even if it did have a mechanical issue ๐Ÿค– The WB-57 has such an interesting history too - from bombing missions to scientific research... who knew? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I hope the investigation into what went wrong finds out exactly what happened, so they can make sure it doesn't happen again ๐Ÿ’ก And I'm curious to see how this affects their future plans... maybe it'll lead to even better tech ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ˜ฎ Can u believe that thing happened? I mean, I'm glad the crew is safe and all, but what if they didn't make it?! ๐Ÿคฏ My heart just stopped for a sec thinking about those pilots... their training must've been insane to know exactly when to push the plane to slow down. And wow, a plane without landing gear relying on friction to stop? That's just crazy! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ

I'm shocked that they think this is a miracle ๐Ÿ™„... I mean, it's not like it's rocket science (no pun intended). The fact that the crew is safe doesn't change the fact that something went wrong with those landing gear. It's just bad luck? They need to get to the bottom of what happened and figure out how to prevent it from happening again. All this fuss about a close call, I'm not buying it ๐Ÿ˜’...

๐Ÿคฏ Can you believe that thing? I mean, I've seen some crazy aviation stories in my time, but this one takes the cake! The crew was literally flying by the seat of their pants with no gear to catch them when they made it down safely... what a miracle ๐Ÿ™. It's amazing how much skill and quick thinking can get you out of a tight spot.

But seriously, I'm just glad nobody got hurt in this crazy situation ๐Ÿ˜…. The WB-57 has such an awesome history - who would've thought it'd still be around today? And now we're wondering if this might affect some future missions... that's always a concern when something like this happens ๐Ÿค”.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what the investigation turns up, but for now, I just hope everyone on board is safe and sound ๐Ÿ’•.

can u believe this?! ๐Ÿคฏ NASA's WB-57 just landed in Houston without its landing gear... like what even is that?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ the crew is safe tho which is all that matters ๐Ÿ’• and I gotta say, that pilot's quick thinking is total MVP ๐Ÿ™Œ! i mean, you don't see that kind of skill on just any old runway landing. what a miracle, right? โœจ now i'm curious to know what went down... was it just a faulty gear or something more serious? investigation time, let's get the facts out ๐Ÿ‘€

OMG!!! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm still hyped about this miracle landing!! Can you even believe that thing touched down without its gear?! ๐Ÿคฏ Friction alone must've been the difference between a disaster and a safe landing... ๐Ÿ™Œ It's like the plane had a guardian angel up there, guiding it to safety. The pilot sounds like a total hero ๐Ÿ™, I mean, what kind of skills do you need to pull off that?! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Anyways, gotta keep an eye on this investigation - hope they get to the bottom of what went down... ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm still shaking my head about that crazy landing ๐Ÿ˜ฒ The thought of that plane just sliding across the runway without gear was terrifying! I mean, can you imagine being up there in the air knowing your landing gear's not going to work? It's a miracle no one got hurt, that's for sure. I've gotta give it up to those pilots - they're trained for situations like this, but still... it's one thing to practice and another thing entirely to actually have to do it in real life ๐Ÿคฏ.

Can you believe that thing landed safely? ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, landing gear fails mid-flight and they still manage to make it down without anyone getting hurt... it's just crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ The pilot must have been totally focused and stuff. I'm glad no one got injured though, that would've been a total disaster.

And yeah, NASA is being all secretive about what went wrong, but an investigation will happen soon enough. I'm curious to know what they find out - was it a manufacturing issue or something else? ๐Ÿค” Either way, it's good that they're taking care of business and getting to the bottom of it.

I've always been fascinated by those old planes like the WB-57. They must be super cool, but also kinda scary. I mean, who lands an airplane with no gear and relies on friction? ๐Ÿ˜… It's not exactly what you see in training vids or anything.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ can you believe that ๐Ÿ˜ฒ NASA WB-57 aircraft ๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ just landed safely in Houston after landing gear failed?! ๐Ÿคฏ The pilot's quick thinking saved the day! ๐Ÿ’ฅ I'm shaking my head over here, this is insane stuff! ๐Ÿ™Œ How did they even manage to get it down without the gear? That's some serious skill right there! ๐Ÿ˜Ž And I love how NASA is being super transparent about the investigation - Bethany Stevens seems like a pro ๐Ÿค“. Hopefully, we'll get some answers soon on what went down. This incident just goes to show that with experienced pilots and proper training, even the most critical situations can be handled. Fingers crossed for future missions ๐Ÿš€!

man, this is just great... another near-miss with some crazy luck involved ๐Ÿคฏ. i mean, can you even imagine being in that pilot's seat, praying the plane doesn't end up in pieces? it's like a real-life video game, but instead of respawning, people are literally sitting in a hospital bed recovering from near-death experiences ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. and we're just supposed to celebrate this 'miracle' landing with some bland official statement about 'quick thinking' ๐Ÿ™„... meanwhile, the guy is probably still shaking, wondering if he'll ever fly again ๐Ÿ’”.
