Amanda Serrano vs Reina Tellez: Champion retains title on points in Puerto Rico

Amanda Serrano retains her WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine featherweight titles with a hard-fought points win over Reina Tellez in Puerto Rico.

The 37-year-old American champion was looking to make a statement on home soil for the first time since 2021, and she didn't disappoint. Serrano's powerful southpaw stance and sharp combinations were too much for the plucky challenger from Puerto Rico.

Tellez, just 22 years old, had been deemed a dark horse by many pundits before the fight, but she more than held her own against one of the best female boxers in the world. She was able to land several good shots and even caught Serrano with an overhand left that caused swelling under her right eye.

Despite the setback, however, it was Serrano's experience and ring intelligence that ultimately told as she regained control of the bout from the fifth round onwards. The champion used her jab to keep Tellez at bay and then unleashed a flurry of combinations to wear her down.

Serrano won all three judges' scorecards by a wide margin, with scores of 98-92, 97-93, and 97-93. It was a dominant performance that will have given Serrano fans plenty to celebrate.

The victory extended Serrano's professional record to 48 wins, with just four defeats - three against Katie Taylor and one draw. She has now cemented her status as one of the best female boxers in the world, and it's clear that she is still hungry for more.

In other action on the card, Holly Holm was outpointed by Stephanie Han to lose her bid to become a four-division boxing champion. The fight was stopped in the seventh round after the ringside doctor deemed Han unable to continue due to a cut to her forehead caused by an accidental clash of heads.

I don’t usually comment but... what's up with these female boxers always fighting on home soil πŸ€”? Amanda Serrano looked so sharp and powerful, I'm not surprised she won easy. Reina Tellez was a dark horse for sure, but experience is key in the ring, right? Serrano's like a fine wine, getting better with age πŸ’§. Four division champion, yeah right? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I think Stephanie Han might need to go back to the drawing board on her training strategy πŸ‘Š. On the bright side, it's always exciting to see new blood in the sport, Tellez is definitely one to watch πŸ”₯

πŸ₯ŠπŸ’ͺ So Serrano's win is more than just a statement, it's also a reflection of her growth as a fighter. At 37, she's still showing that she's got the skills and determination to compete at the highest level. I love how she took on Tellez and gave her a run for her money - the young Puerto Rican boxer had some great moments in the fight! 🀩

It's also worth noting that Serrano's win will open up more opportunities for women in boxing, especially those from underrepresented communities. She's not just a champion, she's a role model and an inspiration to many. And I have to say, it was impressive to see Tellez's bravery and resilience in the face of adversity - she may not have won the fight, but she definitely earned her respect! πŸ’•

🀩 Can you believe Amanda Serrano's performance in Puerto Rico? She totally deserved that win, but I gotta say, Reina Tellez was giving it her all! πŸ₯Š Those two were throwing punches like crazy and the energy in the crowd must've been electric! πŸ˜ƒ I'm loving how Serrano is still hungry for more, she's really proving herself to be one of the best female boxers out there. And what a way for her to celebrate - winning on home soil! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡·

So she's back on top and looking solid πŸ’ͺ. Don't get me wrong, Reina Tellez put up a good fight but Amanda Serrano's experience is still the difference maker πŸ€”. That young gun is gonna be back stronger tho, mark my words 😏. And it's crazy how Holly Holm is now out of title contention again... what's going on with her? Did she take that last loss too seriously? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

[πŸ₯ŠπŸ’ͺ Serrano's jab is like my aunt's sass - it keeps everyone at bay πŸ˜‚] [πŸ‘€ Tellez was like the underdog that finally gets a decent Netflix show πŸŽ‰] [πŸ”΄οΈβ€β™‚οΈ The only thing more painful than losing to Katie Taylor is watching her highlight reel πŸ”₯] [πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Serrano's ring intelligence is like my grandma's gossip - it always keeps everyone in the loop πŸ’¬]

yaaas girl amanda serrano is on FIRE πŸ”₯πŸ‘Š! i mean, she's already proving herself as one of the best female boxers in the world and now this win in puerto rico just solidifies that. she's got that championship belt locked down for a reason! πŸ†

and kudos to reina tellez for stepping up and giving it her all - 22 years old is still young, but she's already showing some serious skill and determination. maybe one day we'll see her as a contender? πŸ’ͺ

as for the rest of the card, it was a pretty exciting night with some tough fights. holly holm putting in a good effort against stephanie han, even if it didn't quite pay off... but hey, we love watching these female fighters push themselves to be their best! πŸ’•

omg i just had the craziest dream last night πŸ˜‚ i was flying over the city on my skateboard and i saw the most gorgeous rainbow-colored unicorn hovering above me πŸ¦„πŸ’« it woke me up in like 2 secs lol anyway did u know that skateboarding is actually really good for your mental health? all those endorphins and fresh air and stuff can totally boost your mood 🌞

Another fight, another Serrano victory πŸ€”πŸ₯Š. Don't get me wrong, she's a legend and all that but it's like we've seen this script play out before so many times 😴. I mean, the experience vs the young gun thing? We've been here before. And what's with the judges' scores? 98-92? Come on guys, 10-8 is way more accurate πŸ™„.

And can we talk about Holly Holm for a sec? Four division champ bid? What happened to her? It was just one round in, and she gets stopped due to a forehead cut from an accidental head clash πŸ€•. Not exactly the most thrilling conclusion to the fight.

At least Serrano's fans have something to celebrate πŸ’ͺ. But let's not forget that this victory comes with some costs. The sport is getting more and more watered down, in my opinion. More of these dominant performances from older fighters over younger opponents πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.
