Respawn Announces End of Nintendo Switch Support for Apex Legends
Resident Evil developer Respawn has announced that it will be discontinuing support for Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch, with the final update set to roll out in Season 29 this summer. From then onwards, only players who have upgraded to the newer Nintendo Switch 2 console will be able to continue playing the popular battle royale game.
According to Respawn's official statement, players will still be able to access their progress, purchases, and earnings on their individual EA accounts, as well as any Apex Coins and cosmetics they've accumulated. However, if a player chooses not to upgrade to the Switch 2 by August 4th next year, all of their in-game assets will remain tied to the original console.
This news has left many players disappointed, particularly those who may not have been planning on upgrading their hardware anytime soon. Apex Legends first launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021, nearly two years after it was initially released on other platforms.
While the newer Switch 2 model undoubtedly offers a better gaming experience for Apex Legends, fans of the game will now be faced with the prospect of purchasing or waiting for an upgrade if they want to continue playing. Respawn's decision to end support for the original console has been met with frustration from some players, who are now left wondering what the future holds for their beloved battle royale experience.
