Ariana Grande Will Miss 'Wicked: For Good' Premiere Due to Flight Delays
Pop sensation Ariana Grande was set to kick off the global premiere tour of her film "Wicked: For Good" in São Paulo, Brazil last night, but an unexpected flight delay has forced her to miss the event. The 29-year-old singer and actress, who plays the lead role of Glinda in the movie, took to Instagram to express her disappointment and apologize for not being able to attend.
"I can't believe this is happening and I am beyond devastated to be sending this message," Grande wrote. "My team and Universal have tried every single thing possible to fix this... Even in attempting a private option, there is a permit necessary in order to fly from here that takes time to attain."
According to Grande's Instagram post, the flight delay was caused by maintenance reasons with the crew citing safety concerns, which delayed the plane until 11 am. By the time the flight took off, it was too late to make it to the premiere.
Grande will miss the premiere in Brazil but will make her first appearance on the tour in Paris on November 7. The rest of the cast, including Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey, will ensure that the show goes on in her absence.
Brazil's fans expressed their disappointment online, with some remarks pushing Grande to release a second statement. In response, she wrote: "Please don't wish danger on us... We did everything we could and I promise you no one is more upset than I am, I promise."
The singer reminded fans that her flight plans were not scheduled on a whim, and the arrangements had been made months in advance. She also expressed her disappointment at missing this moment, which she has been looking forward to for a year.
Grande concluded her statement by wishing the audience a beautiful and safe night, and expressing her love for Brazil. Despite missing the premiere, Grande is expected to make up for it on her upcoming tour schedule.
