As NYC Council itches for a raise, Mamdani and Menin say they won't take one themselves

I'm thinkin' this whole deal with the commission and the raises is kinda like tryin' to get that last slice of pizza 🍕 - it's all good and well, but who's gonna end up payin' for it? I mean, Mayor Mamdani's concerns about affordability are totally valid, but at the same time, you gotta wonder if this commission thingy is just a way to avoid makin' any real decisions about how to spend the city's cash. It's all just a bunch of politickin', if you ask me 🤔.

this whole thing feels sketchy 🤔, first mayor says he won't take pay raise but then council speaker decides not to either? what's up with that? shouldn't they be setting an example for the rest of city officials? also who exactly is on this commission? are there any members from good-government groups or is it just gonna be handpicked by mamdani and menin themselves? need some sources on this, wanna know more before i start jumping to conclusions 📰

🤔 so i think its kinda weird that the mayor and council speaker dont wanna get the raise themselves, but like they're setting up this commission to review everyone elses salary lol what's good about that? its not like they're actually gonna do something about it or just making sure everyone else feels the pain while they just chill on their current pay 🤑
