At least 9 dead, 11 injured in UPS plane crash and explosion at Kentucky airport

Tragedy Strikes at Louisville Airport: UPS Cargo Plane Explodes in Fiery Crash, Claiming Lives of Nine

A devastating plane crash and explosion at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport has left a trail of death and destruction in its wake. At least nine people lost their lives in the catastrophic incident, while 11 others were seriously injured, some with very significant injuries.

The UPS cargo plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 manufactured in 1991, crashed while taking off for Honolulu from UPS Worldport at Louisville Airport on Tuesday evening. The aircraft reportedly struggled to gain altitude as flames engulfed its left wing and engine, before crashing and exploding into a massive fireball. Witnesses described the scene as "violence" and "like a war zone."

The Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear, confirmed that the death toll had risen to at least nine, with four of those fatalities not even on the plane. The governor also stated that he expects the death toll to increase.

Eleven people were injured, some with severe burns or other life-threatening injuries. Louisville Metro Council member Betsy Ruhe expressed her condolences, saying, "We all know somebody who works at UPS... They're all texting their friends and family, trying to make sure everyone is safe." Sadly, some of those texts will likely go unanswered.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken charge of the investigation into the crash. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg stated that it would take time to render the scene safe, saying "We don't know how long it's going to take."

Aviation attorney Pablo Rojas pointed out that the plane's large amount of fuel made it almost like a bomb in flight, given the rapid spread of fire once ignited. The governor revealed that a nearby business and auto parts operation were also affected by the explosion.

The crash has left many locals reeling, with some describing the scene as "unbelievable" and "massive." A video taken by Leirim RodrΓguez showed massive balls of flames exploding into the sky before billowing clouds of black smoke.

As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: this tragic incident will have far-reaching consequences for the community. The airport has been shut down until further notice, with many lives forever changed by the devastating crash.

πŸ€• This is just terrible news. I remember when planes didn't even have autopilot, can you believe it? πŸš€ And now we're dealing with cargo planes that can be like bombs in the air... it's just crazy. I hope they find out what happened and get to the bottom of it soon. RIP to those who lost their lives πŸ’”. 11 people injured, some seriously bad burns... how are we going to recover from this? πŸ€• The airport has been shut down already, imagine trying to get back to normal after something like this... sigh 😩.

πŸš¨πŸ‘€πŸ’₯πŸ”₯ a plane crashes and explodes like a scene from a disaster movie, what's next? 🀯 9 dead, 11 injured... who needs that kind of drama at an airport?! 😩 [GIF: Plane crashing into a building]

😱 can't believe what just happened at the Louisville airport... 9 people lost their lives? that's insane 🀯 and 4 of those were even NOT ON THE PLANE?!?! like what were they doing there anyway? πŸ™„ and now a whole business is ruined cuz of the explosion πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ what kinda safety measures are we talking about here? I mean, a plane with all that fuel just exploding into a fireball? it's crazy! πŸ’₯

OMG what a terrifying accident 🚨πŸ’₯ just hearing about it makes me wanna check if my family is safe lol. I hope the authorities get to the bottom of this ASAP so we can start getting closure for the victims and their loved ones πŸ’”. Those UPS workers must be going through hell, my condolences to them πŸ™. It's crazy how fuel can spread fire so fast in a plane, hope they figure out what went wrong soon ⚠️. The airport is closed till when? so many lives have been affected already 😩

🚨πŸ’₯ just saw that UPS cargo plane went KABOOM at Louisville Airport 😱 9 people lost their lives and 11 others are seriously injured πŸ€•. I mean, can you even get any more dramatic than that? ⏰ They're saying it was like a war zone too... yeah, because flying is not already terrifying enough πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, condolences to everyone affected 🀞 and I hope the NTSB finds out what really happened (and hopefully it wasn't just a case of "fuel-gate" πŸ”₯)

😱 this is insane! how can a plane even catch on fire like that?! 🀯 they're saying it's like a bomb in flight cuz of all that fuel... but what about ppl just tryin to get to work or fly home? this is just ridiculous πŸ’₯ and now some ppl are dyin' and others got serious burns πŸ€• cant believe the gov is sayin its gonna take time 2 find out wut happened like wut even is the NTSB doin?! πŸ€”

🚨😱 I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened at that airport yesterday. Nine people are gone and eleven more are fighting for their lives... it's just not right. The fact that a plane carrying fuel on board can essentially turn into a fire bomb mid-air is both terrifying and heartbreaking. We should all be praying for the victims, their families, and the brave first responders who risked everything to try and save those affected.

The whole thing brings up questions about aviation safety and what can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future. The NTSB's investigation will be crucial in determining the cause of this disaster. For now, I just hope we get more answers soon. 🀞

🚨😱 This is insane... 11 people seriously hurt and at least 9 killed. Can't even imagine the families dealing with this. Fuel on a plane like that's just asking for trouble 🀯. The NTSB needs to get their act together, ASAP. This shouldn't have happened. RIP to those who lost their lives πŸ’”.

🚨πŸ’₯ can't believe the state of airports these days... first it's security checks and then this 🀯 UPS cargo plane just explodes out of thin air! like what even is going on?! 9 people dead and 11 injured, that's already too much. and to make matters worse, a nearby business gets affected by the explosion too 😱. NTSB is investigating but I'm sure it'll take ages to figure out what went wrong. airport shut down, can you imagine having to travel now? πŸš«πŸ˜“

😞 just sad that 9 ppl lost their lives & 11 others hurt bad... hope they recover fast 🀞 think about the ppl who were supposed to text their loved ones but didn't get a chance cuz of this accident πŸ˜” airport's gotta do more to prevent these kinds of things from happening again πŸ’‘

OMG 🀯, can't even think about what happened at Louisville Airport without getting all emotional 😭. Nine people lost their lives and 11 others seriously injured? That's just too much πŸ’”. It's like a nightmare come true for everyone involved, especially those who were supposed to be on the plane but weren't πŸ€•.

I mean, can you even imagine being on the ground watching that UPS cargo plane go up in flames and explosion? 😱 No wonder it was described as "violence" and "like a war zone". The governor's right, though - the death toll will probably keep rising. It's just so sad that people have to deal with this kind of tragedy 🌫️.

And to all those UPS employees who lost their loved ones, I'm sending you so much love and support ❀️. And yeah, it's gonna be a tough road ahead for everyone in Louisville - the airport is shut down, and life will never be the same πŸ˜”.

can't believe all these people died from a plane crash 😱🚨 i mean what's the point of even having airports if they're just gonna be a death trap? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it's not like the plane was being flown by some crazy person or anything... it's a UPS cargo plane, for crying out loud! πŸ“¦ the fact that 4 people didn't even get on the plane and still died is just insane πŸ’€ i'm not saying the NTSB should be slow to investigate or anything, but like, can we not just assume this was some kind of plane malfunction? πŸ€” it's not like there are like, millions of planes flying around up in the air right now... πŸ˜’

πŸ’”πŸš¨ this is getting outta hand... all these cargo planes doing this? like, what's goin on?! 🀯 and 4 people didn't even get on the plane?! 😱 that's just wild. I feel bad for the families of those who lost loved ones, RIP πŸ’€. The NTSB better figure this out ASAP 'cause I'm tired of hearin' about these crazy cargo plane crashes. What's the deal with all the fuel on them planes?! πŸ€” is it just too much? 🚫

Man... that's just heartbreaking πŸ€•. I remember when planes like those still took off and landed on the runway without any issues 😩. It's crazy to think about how much technology has advanced since 1991 πŸ’». You'd think with all the safety measures in place, something like this wouldn't happen again... but life is full of surprises, right? 🀯

I'm just glad that UPS has such a great emergency response team, or at least I hope they do πŸ™. And Leirim's video footage of the explosion was straight out of a horror movie 😱! The thought of those 11 people getting hurt... it's just devastating.

As for the investigation, I'm sure the NTSB will get to the bottom of what went wrong and make sure it doesn't happen again πŸš”. But in the meantime, we can only hope that everyone affected by this tragedy gets the help they need ❀️.

🚨πŸ’₯ this is getting crazy - 9 people dead in an explosion at the Louisville airport? what's next? another major US airport gets hit by a terrorist attack or just a freak accident... and now they're saying it could get worse? like, how much more bad news can we take in one day? 🀯 the UPS plane was just taking off from a cargo operation, so who knew that 30+ years old plane was still carrying fuel? this is all just too much to handle πŸš«πŸ’”

omg what a horrific tragedy 🀯😱... cant even process how 9 ppl lost their lives and so many more are hurt its just to much 11 people injured with severe burns & life threatening injuries πŸš‘πŸ’” my heart goes out to the ppl who were on that flight, their families & friends they'll never forget this 😒 & what's w/ the plane being a cargo plane?? shouldn't it be safer πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ or wasnt there some warning signs??

🚨 This is just getting out of control! I mean what's going on here? A plane just explodes in mid-air and we're still trying to figure out how it happened? 11 people seriously injured, including some with life-threatening burns... and the governor is already saying the death toll will increase? 🀯 And what about the poor families who are getting those texts from their loved ones on the ground? No answers, just a trail of destruction. The NTSB is investigating, but I'm not holding my breath for any real answers anytime soon...

πŸ€• "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Nelson Mandela πŸ’”πŸ˜± This tragedy is a harsh reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of being prepared for the unexpected. The thought of those 11 injured people, some with severe burns, is just devastating πŸ€•πŸ’ͺ

Man, what a mess 🀯. This is like something out of a bad movie. A plane just explodes in mid-air and everyone around it dies? It's so sad that some people didn't even have to get on the plane to get hurt πŸ˜”. I'm sure UPS had all sorts of safety protocols in place, but who knows what really went down here? The NTSB is gonna take their sweet time investigating this thing, I can tell you that much ⏱️. And now people are stuck without transportation because of it... great πŸš—πŸ˜’. This whole situation just feels like a total disaster πŸŒͺ️.
