Australian Open 2026: How Craig Tiley transformed Melbourne event into 'Glastonbury of tennis'

The Australian Open has been a successful and popular tennis tournament, with a record prize pot of £55m this year. The tournament has grown in popularity over the years, with daily crowds topping 100,000 in the early part of the event. The site of Melbourne Park stretches from Flinders Street Station to the nearby suburb of Richmond.

However, there have been some challenges and controversies surrounding the Australian Open. Some players have expressed dissatisfaction with the cameras recording their every move behind the scenes, while others have complained that too many tickets are being sold, ruining the experience for tennis-watching fans.

Despite these issues, the tournament has continued to evolve and improve, with a focus on providing high-quality player facilities and services. The Australian Open has also been successful in attracting top players from around the world, including many European and American stars who have participated in the event over the years.

The tournament's success can be attributed to the efforts of its organizers, particularly Craig Tiley, who has played a key role in shaping the event into what it is today. Under Tiley's leadership, the Australian Open has become one of the most popular and prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, attracting millions of fans and generating significant revenue for the sport.

Overall, the Australian Open continues to be an important and exciting event in the tennis calendar, with a focus on providing top-class competition and entertainment for players and spectators alike.

OMG u guys, I'm literally obsessed w/ the Aus Open! 🤩 The prize pot is insane this year - £55m! That's like, whoa! And can we talk about the crowds? 100k+ daily?! Mind blown! 💥 But, on a more serious note, I do feel for the players w/ issues about cameras and ticket sales. Can't they just chill w/ social media already? 🙄 Anyway, I'm loving how the Aus Open is evolving - player facilities are lit! And let's give props to Craig Tiley, he's done an amazing job leading this event. It's def one of the biggest & best tennis tournaments out there now 💪

🤔 I'm not sure how they manage to get away with charging so much for tickets 🤑. 100k daily crowds is crazy but I guess if you can make it work, why fix it? Meanwhile, the prize pot's £55m which is insane 💸. Guess all that $$$ must be trickling down somehow... 👀

I'm surprised they're still struggling with over-selling tickets 🤦‍♂️ I mean, it's not like fans can just magically appear from thin air or anything. And what's up with the camera situation? Like, do players really think they're on a reality TV show or something? 😒 Anyway, kudos to Craig Tiley for keeping the tournament afloat despite all these drama 🙏

🤔 I think its kinda weird how they can say the event is still popular despite having crowds of 100k+ people every day...I mean dont get me wrong the prize pot has increased but so have the prices of tickets and merchandise 🤑. Im a casual tennis fan and even i feel like im being overcharged for everything. And to be honest I dont mind cameras recording behind the scenes as long as they arent invasive, but I guess some players just wanna keep things private 🤫. Still, its awesome that the event is getting more recognition and bringing in top talent from around the world 🌎.

I just think it's crazy how some players are all upset about being filmed 24/7 🤯... like what did they expect? It's a major tournament, duh! And yeah, I feel bad for the fans who can't get tickets, but maybe the ticket prices should go up to reflect the demand? Like, if you're gonna sell so many, charge accordingly 🤑. But overall, it sounds like the Australian Open is still bringing the heat 💥 and I love that Craig Tiley has been instrumental in its success!

Umm... I think it's pretty cool that the Aussie Open is doing well financially 🤑, but at the same time, £55m prize pot seems kinda crazy rich? like, shouldn't that money be helping out more people than just these pros 🤷‍♂️? And don't even get me started on all those cameras recording players - it's like they're being watched 24/7... what's the point of having a private life if you're gonna have your every move broadcasted to the world 📺?! But, I guess if it makes the game more interesting for fans, then it's not all bad? 🤔 And Craig Tiley seems like a good guy, so maybe he knows best 💁‍♂️... but still, I'm kinda torn on this whole thing 😐

the prize pot is insane £55m! i mean who's counting that much cash lol 😂 but seriously its awesome that the tournament has grown so much over the years. 100k daily crowds sounds crazy!

i can see why some players might be a bit miffed about cameras everywhere tho 📸 it feels like they're watching you all the time. and yep too many tickets being sold is def a bummer for fans who wanna watch their fave players play live 🎟️

but on the flip side, its awesome that top players from all over the world come to compete 💪 and Craig Tiley seems like a total boss for making it happen 🙌 he's clearly done an amazing job bringing tennis back to melbourne! 👏

I'm loving the new virtual reality experiences they're offering at the Aussie Open! 🎥 It's like stepping into the court itself 🎾. The tech is insane and I think it's going to take tennis to a whole new level. And I gotta say, £55m prize pot is crazy 💸... who wouldn't want that kind of cash on the line? But seriously, have you seen the player facilities they've set up? It's like a luxury hotel in there 🏨... top-notch service and amenities for the pros. Still, I feel for the fans who can't get tickets - it's all about accessibility now 🤝. The Aussie Open is more than just a tournament, it's an experience 💥!

idk why ppl are so into the aussie open 🤔 it's just tennis, right? 100k crowds sound crazy to me, all that noise & commotion cant be good for the players or their mental health 🙅‍♂️ i mean, have u seen how many ticket holders r complaining about tickets being sold out tho? like, fair play if they cant afford it, but dont blame the event for it... and what's with all these camera shenanigans? 📸 do we really need that much footage of players just chillin' in their locker rooms? 🤷‍♂️

I think it's crazy how much money is being thrown around for this tournament 🤑 The £55m prize pot is insane! Meanwhile, people are complaining about the tickets and cameras? I get that some fans might feel like they're losing out, but I'm all about progress and growth. Melbourne Park is getting better with every year, and it's awesome to see players like those European and American stars coming down under.

I do think the organizers are doing a great job of putting player facilities front and center 🏠 It's no secret that tennis can be a grueling sport, so I'm all for giving the athletes the best support possible. Craig Tiley seems like a genius behind the scenes 👊 He's really helped shape this tournament into what it is today.

One thing I do wish they'd look into is how to balance the experience for fans vs. making more money 🤑 It feels like there's always some tension between these two goals. Still, with all the success the Australian Open has had, it's hard to argue with anything too much 😎

omg I was at AO last year and it's def crazy how crowded it gets 🤯 like I had to wait 2 hours just to get a coffee lol! but at the same time, I feel for the players who have to deal with all those cameras... do you think it's worth it though? anyway, I've been reading about AO's prize money and £55m is insane 💸 did some research on Craig Tiley and he seems like a total legend 👏 so yeah, the AO keeps getting better and better 🎾

OMG u kno like how awesome the Aus Open is this yr? £55m prize pot lol thats crazy!!! i was there last wknd and it was literally packed out with 100k+ peeps daily 🤯🎾. but yeah, some ppl r complaining bout cameras everywhere and tickit prices being too high 😒. idc tho cuz the Aussie Open is def one of the best tennis tournaments out there! they do a sick job of hosting it too, from the facilities to the players' services, everything is on point 🤝. Craig Tiley is like a genius for making it all happen 💡. anyw, cant wait 4 next yr's event 😃🎉

I think it's pretty cool that the Aussie Open has been able to rake in that big prize pot! 💸 But I gotta say, 100k people crammed into one place can get crazy 😅. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that more fans are stoked about tennis, but sometimes I wish they could've been a bit more considerate of the players' privacy 🤐. Also, those camera issues and sold-out ticket problems seem like a bummer for some people 😕. On the flip side, it's lit that top pros from all over the world are participating! 🌎💪 Craig Tiley must be doing something right, haha 🙏

OMG, I'm so stoked that the Aussie Open is breaking all the records this year 🤩! £55m prize pot? That's insane! And 100k daily crowds? I can only imagine the energy at the venue 💥. I've been following tennis for ages and it's amazing to see how the tournament has grown in popularity over the years.

I do feel bad for some of the players who have complained about being filmed all the time, but I get that it comes with the territory 📹. And yeah, the ticket situation can be a bit tricky sometimes, but I'm sure the organizers are doing their best to make sure everyone has a good experience.

Craig Tiley is a total rockstar for all he's done for the tournament 🙌! He must be so proud of what they've achieved. Anyway, can't wait to watch some epic tennis matches this year 🎾👍
