Babolat's Most Popular Racket Gets a Major Refresh for Gen 9 Launch
Tennis equipment manufacturer Babolat is set to launch its most popular racket, the Pure Aero, in a major overhaul. The company says it took "science and shaping by the wind" into account when developing the new model, which will feature advanced aerodynamics designed to enhance speed and spin.
According to Maxime Olejniezak, Babolat's tennis product line expert, the update was driven by the changing needs of players on the court. With players becoming taller, hitting earlier and harder, and moving faster, the company recognized a need to optimize the racket's aerodynamics to help players generate even more spin.
To achieve this goal, Babolat worked with Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, to better understand how players swing their rackets using high-speed motion capture and analytics. The results showed a direct link between the vertical velocity of the racket and the amount of spin generated, leading the company to infuse the throat of the racket with its Aeromodular 4 technology geometry.
The new Pure Aero Gen9 will boast improved aerodynamics and an increase in ball RPMs compared to its predecessor. Olejniezak claims that players will feel more spin and confidence when using the racket, allowing them to unleash their shots with full authority. The frame's new shape is designed to be thinner and sharper, providing a more fluid swing experience.
The update also features a new dampening perspective, utilizing Babolat's Flax 2.0 material to offer vibration dampening up to seven times more efficient than carbon fiber. This allows the company to tailor specific feel properties for different types of players by adjusting the amount of damping in the frame.
The Pure Aero Gen9 launch will feature a six-frame lineup, including one new model, which Olejniezak says was designed with a modern and bold attitude that reflects the technical performance of the frame. The company has opted for a metallic grey paint job to convey a sense of technicality and performance.
Babolat is expecting its top players, including Carlos Alcaraz, to showcase the new racket on tour. With this major refresh, the Pure Aero Gen9 promises to take tennis rackets to the next level in terms of speed, spin, and overall feel.
