Bears called about Browns star DE Myles Garrett leading up to trade deadline: report

Bears Scout Myles Garrett Ahead of Trade Deadline, But Team's Needs Are Too Deep.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles was proactive in evaluating potential trade targets as the deadline approached. While he made a move by acquiring defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka from the Browns for just a late-round pick swap, the team ultimately did not pursue several other notable players due to depth concerns on their roster.

At the top of that list is arguably the best pass rusher in the league: Myles Garrett. The 29-year-old Brown, who leads the NFL with 11 sacks this season, was reportedly one of the guys the Bears would have liked to see become available. However, when asked about the availability of various players after the deadline, Poles said "all of the guys you would imagine" - but it seems that Garrett simply wasn't on the table.

Garrett backed down from an offseason trade request and signed a massive four-year contract extension in March worth $160 million. The new deal has secured him through 2026 and is considered one of the best pass rusher deals in NFL history.

While the Bears' defense has shown signs of improvement lately, particularly after acquiring defensive end Montez Sweat earlier this season, they still have significant work to do on that side of the ball.

ugh, bears miss out on garrett πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ...like what were they thinking? he's literally leading the league in sacks and they can't even make a move πŸ€‘ his new deal is insane btw, $160m for 4 years is just crazy πŸ’Έ but i guess it's not like it matters now, bears are stuck with their current pass rush situation πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ still gotta try though, maybe they'll make some moves in the offseason πŸ‘€

omg i cant believe the bears missed out on myles garret 🀯 like what were they thinking? a guy with 11 sacks already this season is a game changer for any team and the bears are like stuck in neutral defense wise lol. anyway, gotta respect garret's new deal tho, $160 million is insane πŸ’Έ but i think he'll be happy where he's at in cleveland. the bears need to step up their game on defense if they wanna compete with the other top teams πŸ€”

I don't know, man... I feel like the Bears missed out on a big opportunity with Myles Garrett πŸ˜’. They were interested in him and he's like, one of the best pass rushers in the league, right? πŸ€” But now he's locked down for another 2 years with Cleveland and it's crazy to think about what could've been. I mean, their defense has shown some promise lately, but they still need a lot more depth on that side of the ball... πŸ‘€ it's gonna be interesting to see how they address those needs in the offseason 🀞

Ugh, I'm so frustrated with the Bears right now 😩! They just missed out on Myles Garrett, who's literally the top pass rusher in the league 🀯. With the way their defense has been looking lately, they need someone to step up and bring some serious heat πŸ”₯. But noooo, Poles played it safe and stuck with what they already have. I mean, sure, they got Montez Sweat, but that's just not enough πŸ’ͺ. It's like they're trying to put out small fires instead of dealing with the bigger blaze πŸš’. Can't wait to see what they do in free agency! 😬

ugh, like i get it bears are trying to build a defense here πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ but come on, you gotta want it πŸ˜’ myles garrett is literally the best pass rusher in the league and they can't even make a move for him? 160 million bucks for four years and he's still gonna lead the browns to more wins than bears any year πŸ™„ meanwhile i'm over here wondering why montez sweat isn't getting that much love πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ still hoping they figure out their defense before the playoffs 😬

idk why ppl think garrett's gonna be available anytime soon πŸ€” i mean he just signed a huge contract extension and now he's locked in for another 2 yrs, no way he's gettin traded 🚫. chicago bears need to address their depth issues on defense, and they gotta make some real moves if they wanna compete with the rest of the league πŸ’ͺ. maybe tryin to sign some free agents or makin a trade that makes sense? we'll see what happens in the offseason 🀞

πŸ€” I dont think bears did anything wrong by not pursuein garrett πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ he just signed a huge deal and thats gonna make him super hard to trade πŸ’Έ plus they got montez sweat who's bringin some good energy on dline πŸ”₯ and lets be real, depth concerns r a big thing here πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ if bears coudve fill that hole w/ another pass rusher πŸ‘€

ugh i feel like the bears are just gonna keep making the same mistake over and over πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. they need a solid pass rusher but instead of going all in for myles garrett they play it safe with tryon-shoyinka? it's like they're trying to build for the future or something... newsflash, chicago: your defense is gonna get blown out by every team that can pass πŸ“ˆ

soooo disappointed πŸ€• for all the bears fans out there... i mean, garrett is like a game-changer on d-line and they're just gonna sit back and watch him dominate another team's offense? 🀯 and yeah, their defense has been kinda meh lately, but they could've pulled off a big trade to shake things up. guess you can't blame ryan poles for prioritizing depth over one superstar player... or can you? 😏 anyway, gotta wonder what could've been if garrett ends up on chicago πŸ‘€

πŸ€” i think garrett's deal is kinda stupid tho... 160 mil for 4 yrs? that's like 40 mil a yr! what if he gets hurt or just plain ol' tired?? doesnt seem worth it to me, i mean imo

I think the Bears were too cautious with their trade moves... I mean, Garrett is an absolute beast on the field and they would've been crazy not to chase him 🀯. But at the same time, I get why they didn't make a move - their defense needs some serious TLC before they can even think about competing in the playoffs. Ryan Poles did make a decent move with Tryon-Shoyinka, but it's just not the same as getting a game-changer like Garrett πŸ€”. Can't say I'm too disappointed though, the team's still showing signs of life and with some tweaks, they might actually be onto something πŸ‘€

I'm really surprised that the Bears didn't even consider getting Myles Garrett πŸ€”... I mean, he's literally leading the league in sacks and has an insane contract extension πŸ€‘. The team does need some depth on their defense, especially since they got Montez Sweat earlier this season, but still... it's just hard to see them pass on a player of his caliber πŸ˜…. Maybe they're just not convinced that he'll fit in with the rest of the squad? Or maybe Poles was being diplomatic when he said all the good players were off the table πŸ™„. Either way, I think Garrett would've been an awesome addition to the Bears' defense πŸ’ͺ... what do you guys think? Should they have made a move for him?

I'm not surprised the Bears didn't go for Myles Garrett πŸ€”... I mean, have you seen their O-line? They need some serious upgrades before they can even think about getting a top pass rusher. And yeah, $160 million is a lot of cash πŸ’Έ... but you've got to consider it's a huge investment in a player who might not even be the best fit for their system. I'm all for being realistic here πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... the Bears need to focus on building a solid foundation on that defense before they can make moves like this.

Ugh, I'm so done with teams not being transparent about their intentions πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. The Bears were all over Myles Garrett like a cheap suit, but Ryan Poles couldn't make it happen πŸ’Έ. It's just another example of how the trade deadline can be super frustrating for fans like us who are always wondering what could've been πŸ€”.

I mean, I get it, depth concerns and all that jazz... but come on, Garrett is a 29-year-old beast with 11 sacks this season! πŸ’₯ You'd think he's worth exploring options to bring him in. And what's up with his contract extension? $160 million for four years? That's some next-level sauce 🍰.

It's just so disappointing when teams don't give us anything to get excited about during the trade deadline. I'm still holding out hope that they'll make a move next year, but until then... meh 😐.

I gotta say, I'm super disappointed in the Bears not going after Myles Garrett πŸ€”πŸ‘Ž. The guy is a beast on the field and would've taken their pass rush game to the next level ⚑️. I mean, come on Ryan Poles, you gotta think outside the box, man! You can't just settle for decent players when you could've had a superstar πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

And yeah, I get what they were saying about depth concerns, but c'mon, that's just an excuse πŸ™„. The Bears have been making progress on their defense and now they're gonna give up on Garrett because of some roster issues? No thanks! He'd've made all the difference in the playoffs πŸ†.

I'm still rooting for them to make a move next year, though πŸ˜’. They need someone like that to shake things up and take their team to the top ⬆️.

πŸ€” bears need to strengthen d line ASAP 🚨πŸ’ͺ or else they'll struggle in playoffs πŸ’₯😬 160 mil extension for garrett is crazy talk πŸ€‘πŸ˜² maybe pokes should've gone all in πŸŽ―πŸ’Έ but depth concerns got the best of him πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ“ˆ

I dont think the bears are doing anything right rn... they had a shot at myles garrett and blew it πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. i mean, that guy is a game changer on the field, and they just decided he wasn't worth it because of depth concerns? πŸ€” come on, they should've been all over him like a bad rash πŸ’‰. its clear they still need to work on their defense, and now garrett's just gonna go out there and dominate some more 🏈. i guess thats what happens when you dont make moves during the trade deadline... πŸ˜’

I think Garrett's extension was a smart move for him. I mean, 160 million is a pretty penny πŸ€‘. And honestly, I'm a bit surprised he wasn't more available at trade deadline. Teams need depth and with the way the league is now, you can never be too sure about injuries or suspensions happening mid-season. The Bears are definitely in a rebuilding phase so it's good they're being cautious with their moves πŸ€”.
