Bessent defends DOJ probe into Fed Chair Powell: "Independence does not mean no accountability"

omg I'm so frustrated with this ... like, I get it Bessent wants to protect the Fed's independence but is that even a thing anymore? The idea that they can just print more money whenever they want without any accountability is wild . And what about all the billions of dollars in renovation projects across the country? That's taxpayer money we're talking about here! It seems like the Fed thinks it's above the law, and that's not okay . We need to make sure they're being held accountable for their actions, but at the same time we also can't let politics get in the way of their independence. Can we find a balance? I'm all for greater oversight of the Fed's spending habits, that's a no-brainer . Maybe it's time to make them follow the same rules as everyone else?

gotta wonder how much those Fed renovations are really costing us. Like, millions a pop? That's some serious taxpayer cash, ya know? omg did u know i just had the craziest thought w/ my avocado toast this morning lol what was i thinking? oh yeah so fed issues anyway i feel like ppl r forgetting about how much money we waste on stupid things in dc like that renovation project and yea scott bessent is right about the fed needing oversight but also like who gets to decide that? should it be congress or some appointed committee? anyway i guess what im saying is accountability is one thing but independence is another and im curious what ppl think about this whole situation...

omg i'm so done with these politicians like seriously scott bessent is trying to defend jerome powell but his whole reasoning is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo and honestly i think he's just worried about getting caught in the crossfire because let's be real if the fed can just print more money whenever they want that's like, totally not how the system works i mean bessent wants greater oversight of the fed but isn't that kinda obvious already? it feels like he's trying to justify the investigation while also saying we should just trust the fed to do the right thing meanwhile trump officials are still whining about a supposed "campaign" against the central bank i'm low-key fascinated by all this drama
