Local Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Brutal Murder of Acquaintance, Hiding Body in Home Fridge for Years
A Brooklyn judge has handed down a life sentence without parole to Nicholas McGee, 48, for brutally murdering his acquaintance Kawsheen Gelzer, 39. The gruesome crime took place in March 2022 when McGee allegedly stabbed Gelzer over 60 times while he slept on a sofa. In addition to the stabbing, McGee also hit Gelzer repeatedly in the head with a hammer.
Following the murder, McGee dragged Gelzer's dismembered body to the bathroom where it remained for several days before being dismembered further using a saw and hammer. The victim's remains were then placed in plastic bags and hidden inside McGee's refrigerator and freezer, which he sealed shut with tape and glue.
The discovery of Gelzer's body was not made until over two years after his murder when police searched the premises following a tip in January last year. During their investigation, police found additional evidence linking McGee to the crime, including drugs discovered in Gelzer's pockets that were later used alongside codefendant and wife Heather Stines.
Stines, 48, had previously pleaded guilty to concealment of a human corpse and bail jumping, but is still awaiting sentencing. Prosecutors described McGee's actions as "deeply disturbing" and a testament to his "cruelty and disregard for human life."
McGee's confession, which was obtained in exchange for a cigarette, provided details of the heinous crime. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez condemned the act, stating that it was "almost beyond comprehension."
