Bulls welcome fans to UC to celebrate Derrick Rose before jersey retirement

At the United Center on Saturday, fans gathered to celebrate Derrick Rose, the former point guard who revolutionized the position with his incredible speed and strength. A new atrium experience was set up at the arena, featuring over 30 screens showing a montage of Rose's career highlights. The event also included a rose garden installation with art created by Chicago high schoolers and a pop-up shop selling bouquets of roses.

Tickets to the event sold out in advance, with fans waiting for two hours in freezing temperatures, with wind chills reaching minus 30 degrees. This showed just how loyal Rose's fan base is and how much he means to the city. Private chef Stacey Young said she cooked for Rose between 2008 and 2016 during his time with the Bulls.

Young also said that witnessing the event and seeing the impact it has on young fans like Juan Villegas, who considers Rose as his all-time favorite player, was overwhelming. Villegas got tickets to the game for his birthday and decided to attend the atrium experience, saying he couldn't get enough of Rose's impressive skills.

When asked about Rose, Villegas said "he revolutionized the point guard position" and that fans love him because he was fast, strong, and intimidating on the court. The event also serves as a reminder that with hard work and dedication, anyone can achieve their dreams.

On Saturday, Derrick Rose will become the fifth Bulls player to have his jersey retired, joining Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen in the rafters.

I'm thinking, what's up with all these retro events like this? Like, I get it, Derrick Rose is a legend and all, but 30 screens of highlight reels? πŸ˜‚ That sounds so cheesy. And I'm good, I don't need to wait two hours in the cold for a party, that's just crazy talk! I'd rather have a nice cuppa at home while watching some old vids.

So they're retiring his jersey and stuff? That's cool, I guess. I mean, it's not like he didn't deserve it or anything. But what's up with all the roses everywhere? πŸ€” Like, is that really necessary? And who's Juan Villegas again? Did he get a free bouquet or something? 😜

man thats so cool that people waited 2 hours in freezing temps for a Derrick rose tribute event lol what's wrong with chicago weather anyway? its awesome that fans are super loyal like that rose is def an all-time great player i remember watching him play when he was on fire and dominating the court. its amazing to see how he still means so much to the city even tho hes not playing anymore. thats so sweet that a fan got tickets for his birthday and is already a huge rose fan haha yeah, working hard and dedication can take you places and it sounds like rose is living proof of that. btw, has anyone seen scottie pippen's jersey retirement ceremony?

I'm so stoked for Derrick Rose 🀩! It's amazing how he inspired a whole new generation of basketball fans like Juan Villegas πŸ’ͺ. The rose garden installation is super cool too 🌹, I love that high schoolers got to create art for the event 🎨.

I wonder what Derrick Rose thinks about being the fifth Bulls player with his jersey retired? Does it mean a lot to him? πŸ€” And how does he feel about all these young fans looking up to him as their favorite player? 😊 It's great that events like this can bring people together and show the impact one person can have on others. The atrium experience sounds like an epic way to celebrate his career highlights, over 30 screens are insane! πŸ“Ί

this is so wild... all these fans were out in -30 degree weather for 2 hours just to see Derrick Rose's highlights 🀯 it's crazy how much impact one person can have on a community. it's like, rose isn't just a basketball player, he's an icon, and people are still holding onto that nostalgia and excitement. and you know what the scariest part is? he was once in their shoes, just trying to make a name for himself... but then he took off 🌟 and now he gets to look back on this incredible journey and see how it all came together. it's like, the whole event was like a big ol' rose garden, full of life and growth and new beginnings πŸ’
