Cam'ron Opens Up on Lawsuit Against J. Cole, Reveals Why He's Suing: 'Being a Man Is Keeping Your Word'
In an exclusive interview with Flee, Harlem rapper Cam'ron recently elaborated on why he decided to file a lawsuit against fellow rapper J. Cole over their "Ready '24" collaboration. The lawsuit is not about the music itself, but rather about a series of broken promises and failed commitments.
Cam explained that his initial intention was not to sue, but rather to get J. Cole's attention. He claimed that when Cole asked for a feature or an interview on one of his talk shows, Cam delivered in a timely manner. On his album "The Off-Season," Cam did an intro for Cole within 24 hours, and even offered to provide a verse whenever he got a project done.
However, when it came time to fulfill the promised verse, Cole reportedly gave Cam the runaround once again. Despite initially agreeing to do an interview in February, Cole delayed several times, citing various reasons such as his busy schedule and a Kendrick Lamar-Drake battle that didn't want to be discussed without a new project out.
Cam felt betrayed by Cole's repeated broken promises, stating, "I said, 'Look, I'll do the interview. I won't even bring up [the beef].' He says, 'Nah, I can't do no interview and not talk about it.' 'Alright, well, when can I get the interview?' 'Yo, February definite. February, I'm dead ass on February.'" When the day of their promised interview came around, Cole claimed that he was still working on his album, "The Fall-Off," which is set to drop on Friday, Feb. 6.
Cam'ron emphasized that being a man means keeping your word, adding, "I know everybody's busy and has things to do and so on and so forth. But if I give you my word four or five times, I gotta do it one time out of the four or five times." The lawsuit is seen as a way for Cam to hold Cole accountable for his broken promises.
