Cantina la Martina brings La Tamalada back to Kensington in first Philly event since closure

Cantina la Martina Returns with La Tamalada Fiesta in Philly

After closing its Kensington restaurant last November, Mexican eatery Cantina la Martina is bringing its beloved annual La Tamalada festival back to Philadelphia. On Sunday, February 1, the popular restaurant will host a free outdoor celebration at The Lighthouse, marking its first event since closure.

The festive gathering promises to be just as lively as in years past, with local street vendors serving handmade tamales alongside a variety of drinks and family-friendly activities. Food and beverages will be available on an pay-as-you-go basis, with each tamale priced at $6. The Cantina la Martina team has curated a selection of traditional Mexican drinks, including atole, champurrado, tepache, and café de olla.

As the party gets underway, vendors will compete in a high-stakes tamale-making contest, with awards handed out to the top entries. Meanwhile, a live DJ will keep the energetic atmosphere going throughout the afternoon. To cater to families, The Lighthouse has planned an array of activities, including hayrides, barrel rides, artisan vendors, and even a petting zoo featuring horses, goats, and pigs.

This event serves as a tribute to La Candelaria, a Mexican tradition marking the end of the holiday season, as well as the community gathering that traditionally follows Rosca de Reyes. With its emphasis on food, fun, and community, this event is sure to bring together locals and visitors alike for an unforgettable afternoon in Philly.

When: Sunday, February 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: The Lighthouse (101 E. Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134)
What to expect: Handmade tamales, local street vendors, live music, family activities, and more!

I'm so stoked Cantina la Martina is bringing back La Tamalada Fiesta in Philly! 🎉 I mean, who doesn't love a good tamale party? The fact that they're hosting it at The Lighthouse sounds like it's gonna be lit! ✨ And I love that they're including some awesome activities for families too - hayrides and a petting zoo are always a win with me. 🐴🐑 But what really gets me is how this event celebrates the community vibe, you know? It's all about coming together to enjoy good food, drinks, and tunes... that sounds like my kinda thing! 😊
