Casio teased a retro gaming-inspired sampler

Casio has just unveiled a retro gaming-inspired sampler that is set to bring nostalgia for old-school electronic music enthusiasts and nostalgic gamers alike. The new device, dubbed the SX-C1, resembles a love child of classic game consoles like the Game Boy and the legendary SP-404 sampler from Roland.

The Casio SX-C1 boasts a sleek design with a directional pad, four buttons reminiscent of a controller, and a 1.3-inch OLED screen on top. However, the real fun begins at the bottom where there are 16 rubberized pads, each adorned with pixelated number labels, allowing users to trigger samples in a tactile and immersive way.

According to Casio, the final version of the SX-C1 will boast 16 voice polyphony and be able to record samples at 16-bit / 48kHz. It will come preloaded with samples sourced from classic Casio gear and feature two effects slots, with some familiar sounds like a bitcrusher and delay audible during the demo clip.

The sampler also boasts a grid-style step sequencer that echoes the legendary TR-707, albeit without specific specs for now. Other notable features include proper sample trimming, a visible waveform similar to Roland's SP-404MKII, as well as built-in mic and speaker capabilities with power options through AAAs or via USB-C ports.

Casio's return to the sampler market after a long hiatus is a welcome one, especially considering their iconic '80s models like the FZ-1 and SK-1. However, the release date, pricing, and potential availability in the US remain shrouded in mystery at this time, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more information from the company.

As a gamer-turned-electronic-musician, I am thrilled to see Casio revisiting its roots with such an innovative device that combines the best of retro gaming aesthetic with cutting-edge sampling capabilities.

๐Ÿค” the thing is, what's really being revealed here? is it just a nostalgic throwback or is casio genuinely rethinking their approach to music production? I mean, think about it - we're already seeing so much blending of lines between art and tech, what does it say when something like this comes out that can be both retro and cutting-edge at the same time? for me, it's like, have we really grown beyond our childhood obsessions with gaming consoles or are we just perpetually stuck in a loop of nostalgia. anyway, i'm hyped to see how this thing actually plays out

I'm so down for this new Casio sampler ๐Ÿคฉ! The retro vibes are definitely on point, and I love how they've incorporated some classic game console elements into the design. 16 rubberized pads sound like a total blast to play around with ๐ŸŽธ. Can't wait to get my hands on it and start experimenting with all those effects slots ๐Ÿ”„. I'm curious about the sample trimming feature too - does that mean we'll be able to chop up our own samples into perfect little pieces? ๐Ÿ’ฅ Also, has anyone else noticed how much this thing reminds me of the TR-707? That grid-style step sequencer is giving me some serious nostalgia vibes ๐ŸŽถ. Anybody know when we can get our hands on this bad boy? The suspense is killing me ๐Ÿ˜ฌ!

๐ŸŽฎ The real question is how's this gonna affect the music industry? Are we gonna see more artists incorporating old-school samplers into their workflow? I mean, think about it, Casio's been gone for a while, but now they're back and they've got some serious game ๐Ÿ’ฅ. It's like they're trying to make up for lost time. The fact that they're releasing this retro-inspired sampler with modern features is genius ๐Ÿคฏ. It's like they're bridging the gap between old-school electronic music and new-school technology. This could be a game-changer for music production, especially for producers who are into that nostalgic vibe ๐Ÿ’ธ. But at the same time, we gotta wonder what kind of impact this is gonna have on the big players in the industry - like Ableton and Logic ๐Ÿค”. Will they feel threatened by Casio's comeback? Only time will tell ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

I'm hyped about the new SX-C1 but I've got some reservations ๐Ÿค”. The retro design is straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ but I wish they'd included more modern features, like touchscreen or Wi-Fi connectivity, to make it more competitive in the market. Also, 16 voice polyphony might not be enough for some producers who need more complex arrangements. But hey, the grid-style step sequencer sounds so cool and I'm sure it'll bring back nostalgic vibes ๐ŸŽธ. The built-in mic and speaker capabilities are a nice touch too - it's like they're saying, "Hey, we've got you covered, no need to carry around extra gear!" ๐Ÿ’ป. Can't wait to get my hands on one and start experimenting with the samples! ๐ŸŽถ

OMG, gotta say i'm loving the look of this thing ๐Ÿคฏ! who wouldn't want a sampler that looks like it belongs in their childhood room? and those 16 rubberized pads are so cool, i can already imagine myself creating sick beats with it ๐Ÿ’ฅ. cant wait to see what kinda sounds we can get out of it, maybe some retro-futuristic vibes? ๐Ÿš€

I'm so stoked about the new SX-C1! It's like they took all the best parts from old-school consoles and samplers and mashed them together into one amazing thing ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ป. I mean, who wouldn't want to play around with those pixelated number labels on the bottom? ๐Ÿ˜† It's like a trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up making music with Casio gear back in the day.

And I'm loving the fact that it comes preloaded with some classic samples โ€“ it's like they're giving us a little taste of nostalgia. But at the same time, the grid-style step sequencer and built-in mic are totally futuristic and exciting! ๐Ÿ’ฅ It feels like Casio is really finding their footing again in this market.

I'm just hoping that the release date and pricing aren't going to be super tricky โ€“ I want to get my hands on one ASAP! ๐Ÿคž

I'm low-key hyped about this new Casio sampler... ๐Ÿคฉ The design is straight fire and I love how they incorporated pixelated pads, it's like stepping into a classic game console. And 16 voice polyphony? That's some next-level stuff! As for the samples, I'm hoping they include some sick '80s Casio vibes. I mean, who wouldn't want to recreate that era of electronic music? But let's be real, this thing is gonna break the bank... or so we're told ๐Ÿ˜… The release date and pricing are still TBA, but fingers crossed it's not another 5-year wait like with the last one. One thing's for sure, though: if Casio brings its A-game, gamers-turned-electronic-musicians like me will be all over this! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg ๐Ÿคฉ i'm literally so hyped about this new casio sampler!!! it's like they've managed to capture the essence of old-school electronic music and gaming consoles perfectly! ๐Ÿ˜ I mean, who wouldn't want a device that looks like a game boy hybrid with pixelated pads and a retro aesthetic? ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ป but seriously, 16 voice polyphony and 48kHz recording capabilities are insane for a sampler in this price range. i'm also loving the grid-style step sequencer โ€“ it's like they're bringing back some of the best bits from the tr-707 without sacrificing any modern conveniences ๐Ÿ’ธ can't wait to get my hands on one (if/when it comes to the us, lol)!!!

๐Ÿ’ป just what we need another nostalgic gadget to clutter our workspaces ๐Ÿ“‹ this thing is like a love child of old school gaming and music gear ๐Ÿ‘พ i'm excited for the retro vibes but 16 voice polyphony? that's a pretty meh spec for a sampler ๐Ÿ˜ still looks cool tho, would be sick to see it come to life with some sick beats ๐ŸŽต

omg can't believe casio is back in the sampler game ๐Ÿคฏ๐ŸŽธ i remember playing around with my old fz-1 as a kid and now they're releasing something that's literally a love child of classic consoles and samplers lol what really got me excited though is the tactile sample triggering pads - it sounds like so much fun to trigger those samples in different ways ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ‘

omg did u guys know that i tried making my own retro pixel art games last year and it was so much fun!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ i used this old computer my dad had lying around and just made this super simple game with a bunch of colors and pixels... it was literally like playing a game on an old Game Boy, but better 'cause mine worked lol! ๐Ÿคช anyway back to casio's sx-c1, the pixelated pads are so cool, i can already imagine making sick beats with those... maybe i'll even make my own game to go with it ๐Ÿ˜Ž
