Catherine O’Hara, Emmy-winning comedian of 'Home Alone' and 'Schitt’s Creek' fame, dies at 71

Catherine O'Hara, the incomparable Canadian comedic actress, left us on Friday at the age of 71. The Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning legend, known for bringing to life unforgettable characters in 'Home Alone' as Kevin's hapless mother and 'Schitt's Creek' as the quintessential and eccentric Moira Rose, succumbed to a brief illness at her Los Angeles home.

O'Hara's remarkable journey began in the 1970s at Toronto's renowned Second City comedy troupe, where she first collaborated with Eugene Levy. Their partnership would blossom into an enduring professional bond that spanned decades, both on-screen and off. The two actors were part of the original cast of 'SCTV,' a groundbreaking sketch show that launched the careers of Canadian comedy icons such as Martin Short and Andrea Martin.

In addition to her comedic triumphs, O'Hara showcased her dramatic range in HBO's 'The Last of Us' and earned an Emmy nomination for the role. Her latest appearance as a Hollywood producer in 'The Studio' further demonstrated her versatility. The late actress is survived by her husband Bo Welch, and sons Matthew and Luke.

O'Hara's impressive body of work will undoubtedly continue to entertain and captivate audiences worldwide. As we mourn her passing, we remember her indelible mark on the world of comedy and a trailblazing spirit that inspired countless fans around the globe.

😢 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this - Catherine O'Hara was more than just an iconic comedian, she was a true legend. I mean, who can forget her as Kevin's mom in Home Alone or Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek? 😂 She brought so much life and energy to every role she played. And it's crazy to think about how far she came from those early days at Second City with Eugene Levy... 🤝 The fact that they were part of that original SCTV cast is just mind-blowing. Rest in peace, Catherine - you will be deeply missed 💔

🤕 Just got the news about Catherine O'Hara... what a talent! She was so good at playing both quirky and heartwarming roles, it's crazy how she managed to balance it all her whole career 🙌. I loved watching her on 'Schitt's Creek' - Moira Rose is still one of my fave TV characters 😂. I'm going to miss seeing her in new projects, but her legacy will live on for sure 💫. It's amazing how she and Eugene Levy were a part of such iconic shows like 'SCTV' - they just get better with age 📺. Time flies when you're doing something you love, right? 😊

I'm gonna say it, but nobody likes hearing this... Catherine O'Hara's death marks the end of an era for me. Don't get me wrong, I loved her work too, but as amazing as she was, I feel like we're losing a piece of our nostalgia. Her characters were iconic, but they'll always be tied to the 80s/90s for me. I know it's weird, but when I think of Moira Rose, I'm already mentally aged out of 'Schitt's Creek'. It's just an odd feeling... 😒

🙏 just another actress who was kinda amazing but not quite *cough* as iconic as some other actresses who shall remain nameless... 😒 anyway, it's not like she wasn't talented or anything, I mean, she won awards and stuff 🏆 her partnership with Eugene Levy was definitely a highlight of my generation, so thanks for that... 😊
