Cold front brings chilly start to the new work week

Houstoners Get Ready for Chilly Monday as Cold Front Moves In

A bitter cold front brought a brisk breeze to Southeast Texas on Sunday, ushering in a cooler and gustier northwesterly wind that's expected to stick around through Tuesday morning. By Monday morning, temperatures are forecasted to plummet to the low 40s, with a wind chill factor making it feel more like the mid-30s by sunrise.

While sunshine will prevail for most of the day, afternoon highs won't warm up much above 60 degrees, keeping the chill in the air. It's not just this week that's feeling the cold snap – two more fronts are on the way, with a weak cool front passing through near Houston on Wednesday and a stronger, colder one expected to hit by Friday.

However, unlike the Midwest and Plains, Southeast Texas won't be bracing for sub-freezing temperatures. Instead, expect another cool-down for next weekend, with morning lows dipping into the 40s and afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Freeze Watch Still a Ways Off

Hoping to escape the chill is those of you holding out hope for a relatively frost-free winter. According to long-range forecasts, Houston's first freeze isn't expected until mid-December – a bit later than average this year.

Rain Returns by Mid-Week

After last week's soggy finish, things are about to flip around with a new weather pattern taking hold. Sunny skies and mild temperatures are forecasted for most of December, but don't count on it getting much drier than that just yet. There's a 20% chance of rain when a front arrives this Friday into the weekend.

😊 Brrr! This cold snap is already giving us Houston vibes from last year... remember that? Well, at least it's not as bad as some parts of the country. I do hope those of you who are struggling with winter blues find a way to cozy up and stay warm. ☕️ There's something so cozy about curling up with a good book and a hot cuppa on a chilly day... anyone else with me on that? 📚✨

Brrr, I'm not loving this cold snap already! 😓 I mean, I know it's Texas and we're used to having some heat, but 40s and 60s? That's like something from The Shining. You know, all that isolation in the frozen woods... anywayz, back to reality, I guess. Can't wait for those sunshine-filled days ahead, though! ☀️

I'm so over these cold fronts! I mean, I get it, winter is coming and all that but can't we just have a consistent temp range for once? I swear, every other week it's either sweltering or freezing and I'm like "when's my break from the chill?" 🤣 Also, love how they're saying there won't be sub-freezing temps in Southeast Texas, like we're special or something 😒 Still not a fan of the rain forecast for mid-week, can't we just have some actual sunshine for once? ☀️

Ugh, can't believe I'm gonna have to trade in my shorts for some decent sweaters already 😒. I know it's Texas and we're not exactly known for being cold, but I'm a retiree and I like staying warm while I'm sipping my coffee on the porch. Guess that means cozying up with a good book and a hot cuppa is in order this week 💡.

I was just thinking about my friend's kid's birthday party last weekend and how they had a massive cake that collapsed 😂. I mean, it was like a small avalanche! We all had a good laugh about it. Anyway, back to this cold front... I wonder if they're using any fancy weather prediction software to forecast these fronts 🤔. And have you guys ever noticed how some cities just get weird weather patterns? Like Houston's always unpredictable. Do you think the rain is going to hit sooner or later?

Ugh, can't believe it's already time for another cold snap 🤣... I remember when I was a kid, we'd have to shovel snow up to our eyeballs just to get outside, and now it's all about freezing temps and wind chill this and that... back in my day, we just called it "cold" 😂. Anyways, I'm just glad the Houston freeze isn't until mid-December - I need some time to enjoy these mild winters before they turn into ice boxes ❄️. And rain? Already? Can't wait for it to clear up and get some sunshine around here ☀️.

I'm so over people thinking winter in Texas is all sunshine and shorts 🙄. Newsflash: we're gonna be bundling up like it's January! I mean, I love a good cold front as much as the next person, but let's get real, 40s on Monday? That's COLD! 💥

omg u guys i no its getting cold in texas!! 🤣 i was in houston saturday and it felt like nov instead of dec lol. but seriously tho idc if its gonna snow or not im just glad we dont have to deal with sub 0 temps like those midwest ppl 🙅‍♂️ i mean whats the diff btw 40s n 60s anyway? still chilly enough for me

Ugh, Mondays are bad enough without it being FREEZING 😩. Can't believe we're already getting hit with this cold front. I'm talking thermal tights and scarf weather now 💁‍♀️. And don't even get me started on the weekend forecast... like 60s in December? That's just a tease, right? 🤔 Still, at least it's not going to be as bad as those Midwestern states are bracing for. On the bright side, maybe this means we'll finally have a winter break from all that sweltering heat 💨. Bring on the cozy vibes... or should I say, bring on the layering! 🧥

Ugh, another cold snap hits Houston 🤕... I mean, I get it, winter is coming and all that. It's not like we haven't seen this before, but still, 40s in the morning? That's just crazy talk 😂. And don't even get me started on the wind chill factor... who thought that was a good idea?! ❄️ Still, I guess it's a good excuse to break out the hot chocolate and cozy up with a good book 📚. On the bright side, at least it's not as bad as those Midwestern winters 😂. And hey, if you're planning on escaping the chill, mid-December is still a ways off... let's just enjoy the sunshine while it lasts ☀️.

I'm getting so over these Texas winter cold snaps 🥶💨 I mean, I know it's not like we're talking Siberia or anything here, but still... it's like, how many times are we gonna freeze our butts off before someone invents a better heating system? 🤷‍♂️ And can we PLEASE get some actual snow around here? Just to spice things up a bit? 😏 A low 40s with wind chill is basically the same as -20 in my book. When's the next front coming, btw?

🥶💨 Monday is gonna be WILD in Houston with temps dropping to the low 40s! 🤯 I was thinking we're due for a snow day this year, but not so fast! 😅 Did you know winter's chill has been intensifying since Nov 1st? ❄️ Here are some crazy stats:

* Last year's first freeze in Houston occurred on Dec 9th, which is only 2 days earlier than average. 📆
* If the current trend holds, this winter could see an extra 10-15 days of below-average temperatures! ⏰
* Did you know wind chill factors are expected to drop by up to 5°C in some areas? ❄️ Brrr!
* Average high temps for Dec are usually around 63°F... this year we're looking at highs in the mid-50s! 🌡️ What's your favorite winter activity, btw? ☕

Ugh, what's up with all these cold fronts? Can't we just have one decent day without freezing our butts off? 🤣 I swear, people are already stocking up on hot cocoa and snow shovels like it's going to be a white Christmas or something 😂. Newsflash: we're not in the Midwest! 60 degrees is COLD, no matter what they say 🥶. And don't even get me started on the rain on Friday... just great, more wet weather to deal with 💧. Can't we just have one dry spell without it turning into a total downpour?

omg i hate waking up early lol anyone else having trouble sleeping with all these cold snaps? 🤪 anyway gotta prep for this monday morning - gonna make some hot cocoa and cozy up with a blanket 👍

ugh i'm so over these cold fronts already lol like who thought it was a good idea for houston to freeze in december?? anyway, at least we won't have sub-freezing temps unlike those poor midwest folks 🤦‍♀️. and yay, rain is on its way mid-week which is perfect timing since the weekend is almost here... still hoping for some decent sunshine tho 😊

🥶💨 Ugh, Mondays are already rough, and now we gotta deal with this crazy cold snap in Houston?! I mean, I know some people love that crisp winter air, but not me... give me a warm cup of coffee any day! 😂 And don't even get me started on those "winter vibes" – it's just 40s degrees outside, fam! 🤣 Anyway, I guess it's nice to know the freeze watch is still a ways off, so we've got some time to enjoy this chilly weather before things get really crazy. Fingers crossed for a frost-free December, though... that would be a Christmas miracle! 🎄

brrr ⚰️ just had to throw on my heavy jacket this morning and it's still not cold enough for me 🤣 anyone else ready for some serious winter weather? i'm over the whole 'mild' winter thing and can't wait for some real chilly temps 🥶

Ugh, yay cold fronts 🌨️. Just what we all needed, a reason to hate Mondays even more. 40s in Houston? That's just getting too chill 😒. And don't even get me started on this whole "weak cool front" thing - sounds like they're trying to sound cooler than they actually are 😏. Anyway, at least it's not as bad as the Midwest... but I guess that's just a cruel joke 🙃.

Ugh I hate Mondays lololol not because it's Monday but bc the chill is coming in 🤣 think we're all gonna need some hot chocolate or a heater on 🔥 gotta say though 40s in Dec isnt too shabby for us houstoners 😎 at least its not freezing like those other states are dealing with ❄️
