Copy of Declaration of Independence from July 1776 to be sold this spring

A Rare Copy of the Declaration of Independence to Hit the Market in Spring

A piece of American history is set to change hands this spring when a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is put up for sale by Goldin Auction House. The broadside, one of only 10 known copies from 1776, has been in remarkable condition despite being printed over two centuries ago.

According to Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of the auction house, this particular document may have originated from a tavern or public hall where it was posted for all to see. Its survival is nothing short of miraculous, given its age and the perils it faced during the tumultuous period of American independence.

Goldin declined to speculate on the potential value of this artifact, but noted that a similar broadside sold at Christie's auction house for nearly $5.7 million. The sale of another copy, which included an engraving on parchment commissioned by John Quincy Adams in 1823, fetched $4 million from George Norcross III.

While Goldin's expertise lies in sports and pop culture memorabilia, this year's USA 250 Auction marks a significant foray into historical collectibles. With over 400 items up for auction, including pieces related to the Declaration of Independence, Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, Babe Ruth, and other notable figures from American history.

For those seeking rare artifacts at more accessible price points, Goldin reassures that there will be plenty of options available. The bidding process is set to begin in May and wrap up in June, making it a prime opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike to get their hands on these extraordinary pieces of American heritage.

Ugh, great, just what I needed, another super valuable piece of history going up for sale... like that's not already out of reach for most people πŸ€‘. Can you even imagine the " collector" who bought that Adams broadside for $4 mil? Like, they must have been sipping champagne on their private island or something 😴. I mean, I'm sure it'll just end up in some rich person's trophy room where it'll collect dust next to their signed baseball πŸ†πŸ‘€.

Oh my goodness 🀯😍! This is huge news! I mean, can you even believe that there's only 10 known copies of the Declaration of Independence from 1776? It's like, totally priceless πŸ€‘πŸ’Έ! I'm not surprised it sold for a bunch of money at Christie's though, I mean, Babe Ruth and JFK are legends πŸ€΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŽ―. And can you imagine seeing one of these in person? Mind blown 😲. The fact that it was probably posted in a tavern or public hall is so cool too 🍺πŸ‘₯. Goldin's auction house has definitely got some big shoes to fill, but I'm sure they'll do great πŸ’ͺ. It's gonna be interesting to see what else comes up for auction this spring 🌸.

πŸ€” I'm actually thinking of splurging on some historical collectibles myself 🎨. It's crazy how something so old can still have that much value πŸ’Έ. I mean, can you imagine seeing the original Declaration of Independence in person? 😍 That would be a total game-changer for history buffs like us! πŸ’ͺ

And you know what's even more amazing? The fact that this broadside might have been posted in a tavern or public hall back in 1776 πŸΊπŸ“°. Just think about all the conversations it must have sparked! πŸ˜‚ It's like a piece of living history, right before our eyes πŸ”₯.

For me, though, I'd rather stick to more affordable options πŸ€—. I mean, who needs that kind of cash πŸ’Έ? Maybe I'll just stick to my vintage action figures instead πŸ˜‰.

This auction is gonna be HUGE! 🀯 I mean, you don't see these kinds of rare historical documents come up for sale often, especially ones from 1776! The fact that there's only 10 known copies and one is going to be sold in the spring is super exciting. It's like a piece of American history just waiting to be added to some lucky collector's library. I'm curious to see what kind of bidding wars break out - $5.7 million for a broadside from Christie's was crazy! πŸ’Έ

Ugh, just what I need, another super rare historical document gonna cost a fortune πŸ€‘. Like who's actually buying this stuff? Just a bunch of rich people trying to prove how wealthy they are. And the best part is, it'll probably end up in some private collection and never be seen by the public again πŸ˜’. The price tag for that one broadside could've fed like 100 people for a year... meanwhile, those who can't afford to spend millions on historical trinkets will still be struggling πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

🀯 can u believe the value of this document? like, $5.7 million or something πŸ€‘ i mean, its american history but still its crazy how some things hold up so well over time πŸ’ͺ maybe its just lucky that it survived all those years, but still a pretty cool piece to have for sale πŸ“š

🀯 I cant even imagine how emotional I'll feel if someone buys this piece of history... its like they're buying a part of our country's soul 🌎. Can you even put a price tag on something that represents the birth of America? $5.7 million is insane, but what's the real value when it's gone forever once sold? πŸ’Έ

πŸ€” I think what's really cool about this sale is the importance of preserving our history. Just like that rare copy of the Declaration of Independence, we should all strive to preserve our own 'history' - our experiences, relationships, and memories. If we take care of ourselves and others, it'll be around for a long time too 🌟. It's also interesting how an item can change hands, sometimes even from unexpected places like taverns or public halls. I guess that's what life is all about, being open to new experiences and connections πŸ’ͺ.

like, a super rare doc from 1776 is going up for sale πŸ€‘πŸŽ‰ I'm not surprised, though - who doesn't love buying ancient history like it's a trendy vintage collectible? 😏 I mean, $5.7 million for another broadside? That's just gas πŸ’Έ...but hey, if you've got the cash to burn, go ahead and splurge on that piece of paper πŸ“πŸ’°. And yay for Goldin Auction House branching out into historical stuff - maybe they'll finally get some sports memorabilia collectors to take them seriously πŸ˜‚. Anyway, I'm sure it's gonna be a wild ride...if you're into that sorta thing πŸ’₯
