Country diary: A hellish fungus, foul of stench and spindly of finger | Charlie Elder

omg I'm so down for the discovery of this weird fungus 🤯 it's like something straight outta a horror movie! but at the same time, I can kinda see why people would find it fascinating...I mean who needs Instagram when you have a real-life stinkhorn to obsess over 😂? I do wonder how it ended up here in Dartmoor though - was it really just hitching a ride on war supplies or what? 🤔

🌿 I'm totally fascinated by this 'Devil's Fingers' fungus! It's like something straight out of a sci-fi movie or a horror flick 😱. I mean, who would have thought that such an eerie creature would exist right here in Dartmoor? 🤯 The idea that it hitched a ride on war supplies from Australia and New Zealand is wild, but not entirely surprising – nature's full of mysteries we can't fully comprehend 🌟.

The way the fungus seems to blend into its surroundings, like a grimy apparition from the grave, is super unsettling 😲. And those 'tentacles' that give off that noxious odor? Total freak me out 😷. But at the same time, I'm drawn to it – like it's some kind of twisted, alien beauty 🌈.

I guess what's coolest about this discovery is that it reminds us just how much there is still to learn and discover in our own backyard 🏞️. So, while 'Devil's Fingers' might send shivers down your spine, let's try to appreciate its unique... um, 'charm'? 😊
